1. go to stringsdirect and try their Legacy strings, used to be about £7 a set, and they were every bit as good as rotosounds. Make of that what you will
2. Bit of Mdf, drill, and some cable ties. And you're done.
3. Okay, last night's show was actually really very good. Except Ringo, as he is a twat. Can I go back and change my vote now?
4.
Get a really sh*tty job that pays f***-all? Works for me.
+1 add to that a couple of teenagers, 2 cars that need constant attention and a house full of animals that seem to need to eat EVERY day.
5. Hooray! A relic argument, been a while. I don't mind it, wouldn't do it though, my relic looking guitars have genuinely just been played to death thanks. Not sure if my fretless counts as a relic, as I started refinishing it, got as far as stripping most of the poly off, and then left it like that as I quite liked it. Might finish it soon, but anyone who thinks it got like that naturally would need to have their brains looked at very seriously. Can't find a pic of it, though I think it's in my profile pic still. I think honest wear and amusing accidents are much better than any attempt to fake it.
6.
A good BURP. (Buying of Unnecessary Rhythm Products)
I want to click on like, but we don't have such a function. Some kind of automatic sweat sucker, so that when i come to have to replace the pickups on my basses, I can unscrew them without finding the top screw has turned to a mass of rusty crap. I've tried remembering to wipe them down, but never manage it in time.
7. http://abcnews.go.com/Entertainment/tv-rad...ory?id=13423567 More sad news for the bass community, great band, nice lines. Tragedy.
8. Nope, it's tiny and light, nothing like the Trace monsters. It comes with a little handle on the side for carting it about, but I took it off to go in a silver camera box easier, as that protects it in the van. Can hold it with one hand very comfortably, and it does a good enough approximation of the classic GK sound for my needs.
9. So do we prefer maple theory or rosewood theory? And can you hear the difference? I like active theory more than passive, but which is better? There's only one way to decide....
10. Yes I have, I've had one for the last 2 years, it is ace, it is cheap, and it fits in a silver box thing for easy transport. Sounds good through my big scary 15" cabs as well.
11. Since the demise of any other music show on the beeb, Jools has had a lot of mainstream crap shoe-horned into what used to be a fairly specialist music show. Which is a shame. Also, since it went LIVE and got a tuesday night slot, the super-commercial-load-of-toss of the week get two songs and everyone else gets a brief glimpse. If you're in on friday, they still haven't fixed the f***-awful live mix, and you get to sit through 3 times as much of the awful toss you didn't like on Tuesday, while the one act you really wanted to see because you have never heard of them before still only does one track. Bring back TOTP, and then they can stick sh*t like cee-lo green and glasvegas on there, get Scott Walker doing Tilt back on Jools again.
12. must not repeat myself, double posted, seems ironic.
13. All very nice, but what's the best scale for METAL!!!!! \m/
14. Have been a guitarist for 23 years. Sometimes I play bass, alright, pretty exclusively for the last 5 or 6 years. Still gig on guitar quite a bit though., is that an oxymoron?
15. Pretty sh*te, that is all.
16. I've had some genuine ones a few times, but my favourite is from the drummer in my new band who said to me afterwards, "Flippin' eck mate, I didn't even notice you were playing for the first 4 tunes" since we'd only just met half an hour before we played the first gig. I believe to not be noticed is the bassists highest calling in drummer terms.
17. Have spent many happy hours watching guitar players left hands. Being one myself it's no great difficulty for me to sort out what they are doing, and use that to sort out what I am doing. The Guitarist in my 80s trib happily told our new keysman that the first chord of the song we were rehearsing was a Dm. Myself and said new keysman both looked at his left hand, and wrote down C#m at the same time, with a knowing look between the 2 of us.
18. Worse, I record everything in a random order, and then go back and do it again, so that I'm playing the damn song, not some early weird vision of it. Bit perfectionist, and probably why it takes me weeks to do a single track.
19.
Want to bet? Opening stake is a house in Marbella or similar.
How about opening stake of a half eaten m&m, it is all I have, and yes it is peanut. (Peanut m&ms sound better, it's the hollow nutty bit, adds to both tone and mojo)
20.
All very amusing stuff, but while there are products like this being promoted then there's little need to make up ridiculously far-fetched nonsense: http://www.merlincables.com/index.php?app=...ref=dragonmains
Holy f*** that can't be real? Surely nobody is that rich/stupid?
21. Everyone knows that cloth wrapped wire sounds better than plastic, so I have woven a bag to go around my entire bass, including the strings (individually cloth wrapped) the resultant cloth soundingness is as vintage and perfect as you can get, will perform the mod for £20000 per bass, worth every penny.
22. I like the original reverends, these also look nice, might have to get me a thundergun....
23.
Now the happy owner of a red Ryder, thanks to Tom! Will re-string it over the coming weeks. Now have a patriotic Ryder trio - red bass, white Tele, blue Strat... all exceptional value for money. I know the guitars have come in for some criticism but so far I'm pleased with all of them. George
My White tele has now got a lovely set of Fender Japan pups in it, that and the 11-53 gauge strings I put on it have turned it into a budget tone monster. Very happy with it now. Just takes a few tweaks here and there.
24.
Bass players never pull, they are the tall moody ones at the back........ thats me.
IMHO all the most interesting women like the tall moody ones.
25.
but mostly inspiration strikes when I listen back to the track. So record some rehearsals and listen to them as often as possible, you'll probably come up with something that way. Good luck!
This, very much so, hum a lot, hum often, listen to the real versions, and when they're stuck in your head, hum out basslines and then get them into your fingers later on.
