  1. I seemingly do the opposite to most here, I keep my preamps flat and EQ on the bass head. It makes sense to me as I'm not a massive fan of the Bartolini preamp in my Flea bass (bass doesn't have any width and the treble Freq is far too high for a graphite neck bass IMO). The TC BH550 I use has superb and well thought out EQ points (it cuts and boost different frequencies on each tone knob, which is also a boon). All amp for me!

    Punchiest amp?

Thanks for the link, it was an interesting read and makes a strong case for the Genzler. Echoing a few things i've read elsewhere online too. Whilst researching other heads, I came across the EBS Reidmar 750. Always been aware of them but they fly under the radar a bit and could be a left-field choice. I know EBS are known for a glassy, hi-fi sound (which might be a bit too much with my Flea bass, especially given it's a 1997 model with an original Lane Poor) Anyone have experiences in terms of the thump/presence this amp puts out?
  3. My old bass! I bought this from new in 2011. Very tempted.

    Thanks! That's really helpful!

    Punchiest amp?

I wear foam earplugs with a 35db rating, and we don't rehearse excessively loud. As I said, maybe I'm just imagining it! Looked into the Genzler and it's seems intriguing, liking the sound of it through YouTube demos and what people seem to say, might have to get down to Bass Direct and see if they have any I can demo. On an aside, the best amp I've played through that sounded like what I'm trying to explain is the Mesa Boogie MPulse 600. Big, wide sounding, authorative, yet defined and controlled. Unfortunately they seem to be rarer than rocking horse poo on the secondhand market. Don't suppose anyone knows if the Mesa Boogie Subway comes in any way close to this?

    Punchiest amp?

Some great suggestions, really appreciate the feedback on this. In terms of what I'm currently running, it's a TC BH550, which has a crystalline clear tone but it doesn't hit the extremes I'm looking for with regards to that thumpy, authorative sound. In regards to compressors, I do use the TC Spectracomp toneprint, which does help a lot to be fair. I'm finding that over the course of a song/set it's like the attack dampens down somewhat although I'm fully aware I could be imagining this. A few mentions for GK on here, I always thought they were known for an aggressive, grindy sound?
  8. Good Morning all! I'm in the market for a new amp head (£1000 budget) and find a lot of amps i've played through can feel quite 'flat'. So, I am curious as to which amp is perceived to be the punchiest? I like a lot of initial thump and body to the notes so that they really 'pop'. My tone is very clean (Modulus Flea through a Vanderkley MNT210) and i'm not interested in any head that has dirt or distortion of any kind. Fat and clear is the name of the game! Advice and opinions greatly appreciated!
  9. Chris just bought my Status neck. As always, a total gent, decisive and with quick payment. Enjoy!
  10. Evening all, I've bought some tuner bushings (Official Fender ones) for my USA SUB as I couldn't find any Musicman ones online. Upon trying to insert them, they are a literal 'smidge' too big. Are Fender headstock holes bored to a different measurement than Musicman? or is this a case of it having to be a snug fit? I don't want to damage the bass in any way so any help would be greatly appreciated. Si.
  11. My apologies, I have updated the advert with my location. Moreton-in-Marsh.
  12. Hi, I have here my Eden WTX264. In mint condition and owned from new (around 7 months old). Used around 4-5 times in the practice room. 260 Watt RMS amplifier section Enhance control 3-Band EQ circuit with selectable Mid Frequency Auto compressor Bass boost circuit Headphone output DI output w/level control Effects loop Mute switch Tuner output Lightweight at under 2kg and compact dimensions. A really warm, classy and funky tone. Selling as it's my backup head but never had any use for it. £175 posted.
  13. Hi, I have my Status Musicman neck up for sale as use my Modulus Flea pretty much constantly these days and seeing as that does the graphite thing to the max, I've decided to change my USA SUB back to it's original wooden neck for more of that original Stingray vibe. I bought this neck exactly 1 year ago and had it fitted and drilled by Status themselves at some expense. The neck should fit any USA Stingray as I believe the neck pocket dimensions and screw locations are identical. The neck is in borderline mint condition with one tiny mark underneath the headstock face. The frets show very minor wear consistent with a years worth of usage. Tonally it gave my SUB a much clearer, funkier tone with that strong growl that only graphite can bring. It also made the bass a lot stronger harmonically. £225 posted or I will knock a little off if you come to collect. Si EDIT - I appeared to have made a rookie error and forgotten to give my location (there's a first for everything!) I am located near Moreton-in-Marsh on the Gloucestershire/Oxfordshire/Warwickshire border.
  14. Good evening all! I'm switching my USA SUB back to its original neck from the Status one I currently have installed (Modulus Flea means I don't need 2 graphite horses in the stable). I've managed to remove the tuners but have heard some horror stories about bushing removal and not having any clamps or tools for the job I've decided to leave the ones on the Status in situ and purchase some new bushings. Could anyone point me in the right direction to purchase ones that would be the correct size? I can't seem to find any with my forays into Google! (Or if anyone knows of a way to safely remove the ones on their without a full toolkit at my disposal, that would be appreciated! Many thanks! Si
  15. I'm on my second Modulus Flea bass and I don't care much for the Flea association. If this bass didn't have Flea on the headstock, I'd still buy one (indeed when it was the Sonic Hammer and FU4). There isn't a bass on the market that can emulate the sound that it produces (before anyone says Stingray with Status neck, I own one of those and it is a very different beast). If the signature bass offers something you can't get elsewhere, I don't see the problem. I owned a Geddy Lee Jazz bass and (at the time) I had never even listened to Rush. It was just a great bass that had mixture of features (especially the shaved neck dimensions) you couldn't find elsewhere in the Fender range.
  16. Bubinga bodied models more often than not, will be heavier. Tone wise that's a massive can of worms that you can find in numerous threads on this site! (FWIW I don't believe it would have any bearing at all). I believe that the pickups in both models are passive, it's just an active pre-amp on the model you're looking at. I wouldn't worry too much, it'll still have spades of that Warwick sound even on a passive model.
  17. That is quite overpriced. IME they tend to go for around 450-650. I have no connection to this whatsoever but this is more like it. https://www.gumtree.com/p/guitar-instrument/warwick-corvette-standard-4-string-bass-german-built-/1284145119
  18. I've never been bothered by nut width. I've adapted to any bass I've ever owned, be that P's, J's or Rays. Not remotely criticising anyone in saying this, because I do get why people would have preferences, it's just I've never found it a deal breaker on an instrument.
  19. Single cuts, headless, sunburst, pointy 'metal' shapes and fancy wooden tops. All massive no-no's for me.
  20. Long term BH550 user here. It's a great piece of kit in every way. It's clean, it's clear, detailed and it feels the full 550watts. Stays composed at high volume. Matches really well with the K-Series cabs. The EQ points cut and boost at different frequencies. So you always seem to be able to dial just the right sound in for the room The tuner is extremely accurate and quick to respond, the tone prints such as Spectracomp and Tubetone are very convincing and I use them quite often. I've played it night in and night out in my main band and my functions band and it still feels as tight as the day I bought it. You can't go wrong for the money!
  21. FWIW the M-Pulse 600 is the best bass head I've ever used in my 14 years of playing. That thing sounded beyond belief. IMO, UK pricing on Boogie stuff is mad however.
  22. Not quite the k212's but I use 2 k210's. Very clean, very modern, very hi-fi sounding cabs with a really controlled, tight sound. I use one cab for smaller gigs (with my TC BH550 it's more than enough) and bring out the second cab for the bigger shows. They're Seriously good value for money.
  23. Red Hot Chili Peppers. I bought Californication in 2001 aged 15 and never looked back.
  24. As with all things, it's a matter of taste . . . But, I think that is fugly beyond all belief. ?
  25. I used to drink in the same pub as the guitar player, Sid. Absolute top drawer bloke!
