1. Afternoon chaps/chapettes Recently acquired a very lovely German Streamer LX4 from this very shire and decided to string it up with Elites, 35-95 gauge. Playing at band practice last night the D and G strings were practically non existent! Huge volume and presence drop, unusable really. Is this just a characteristic of strings this light? There wasn't a problem with the previous strings (unsure as to what they were, but certainly a heavier gauge). I'm gonna try raising the pickup height a tad on those strings but just wanted to check I'm not missing something or have seriously dud strings. Cheers in advance
2. In all my years gigging around Oxford I've seen maybe 2-3 5'ers. So this poll surprises me in that respect. I'd say a good 80% of what I see are 4 string Fenders and curiously enough, Yamaha's.
3. The Cure - Disintegration. Which also happens to be my favourite album full stop.
4. I know it sounds weird but I really dislike the sound of B strings. So although I've dabbled with 5's (and own one) it's 4's all the way for me.
5. My Ray 34 had a dead-ish spot on the 6th fret of G so I know the telltale signs, but, my Fender Jazz just doesn't. I've just now because of this thread checked it against all the other notes surrounding it and it just doesn't!
6. Yeah, Guy Morel. Ashdowns CS is the best in the business.
7. I had the same problem and it ended up being the mains transformer, Ashdown replaced it for around £75 and it was a quick turnaround time.
8. TC RH much???
9.
Ugly, and yet another confusing name that's already been used. Miffed.
Agreed. Ernie Ball are seriously bad with naming their products, so much potential for confusion for the average customer.
10. A big fat 'meh' from me. Sorry.

Feedback For Philly

Just bought a Warwick from Phil. He agreed to meet me quite late in the evening as it was easier for me logistics wise. A top bloke, very friendly and great comms. Bass as described. Really pleased with the transaction, cheers mate!
13. For a singer, I'd say a couple of months. One rehearsal a week and practicing at home.
14. Never use them. All done through the EQ. VPF is just a fancy name for a contour control, you'll lose your presence in the mix cranking that much above the off position. VLE just dulls everything. YMMV of course.
15. Final drop to £999, will withdraw at the end of January.
16. I'm laughing in utter disbelief at this guy!
17. Great bass heads, I had a GP12 smx. Turn off the preshapes, they're pants. A little goes a long way with the eq and compressor. I used to boost the low band of the compressor a tad and left the hi part off. It added a lot of punch. One thing I would say tone wise is I don't rate those Trace 15"s. They have a baked in sound unto themselves, I had the head rehoused from the combo into a sleeve and started using it with a GK 410. Talk about unleashed! Persevere, it's worth it!
18. In terms of true global appeal and not "bass players, bass players" I see only Flea being able to do this.
19. Owned a Stingray, my current Spector kicks it in the balls in the aggression stakes.
20. My old Epiphone Thunderbird was a slap machine! Probably the best slap tone I've had behind my Spector.
21. Anyone got any pepto-bismol?
22. I have a 2010 Candy Apple Red + Maple board Mexi Jazz and in a nutshell, It's superb. 8.4lbs, flawless finish and fit and great pickups. Satin finish neck too, super comfy!. General consensus round these parts is the Mexi factory has really upped It's game in the past few years. Tbh though if you're going to be modding, I'd just buy a Squier as a blank template to personalise to taste.
23.
I owned one of these a couple of years back, lovely piece of kit. Have a bump.
Thanks dude, they really are. Bump for extra trade options.
24.
Quality wood ends up being what traditionally started being used for solid body instruments (not based on 'tone' but on availability & price mostly). Tradition takes care of the rest. Other quality woods are supposed to be 'quality' for aesthetic reasons... and little else. Then... add marketing Not saying that the wood will not have an effect in the sound of solid body instruments, but when you consider the huge variation between individual bits of wood of the same species, it seems a bit too much to give the wood the importance that some want to give it. To me, it seems that other factors play a much larger role, and in the case of bolt-on instruments particularly the neck pocket fit.
Exactly my thoughts, well said.
