1. Has anyone actually tried to enter dialogue with him? And let him know that this POS is worth absolutely nothing?. That said I've followed it for so long I'm becoming strangely attracted to it
2. I had the 800w version of this cab and the paint on it flaked off if you so much as glanced at it. That little mark will be the least of your worries after a few gigs! Great sounding cab though and for that money it's a no brainer!
3. The Trace V8 is my holy grail. One day I may be lucky enough!
4.
If you don't get Jaco's talent, you might want to consider taking up a different instrument. Bass guitar is not for everyone. Aimless noodling, WTF? Blue
So OP should give up bass because he doesn't like Jaco? Absolute twaddle.
5. Jaco does nothing for me, sorry! A genius yes and outrageously talented but game changer? Nah. Jamerson for me, did that on bass.
6.
I'm a self confessed Trace bitch! I've tried lots of amps but still go back to my Gp12SMX's. I do think it's worth pointing out that Trace amps, certainly the older SMX models, can produce a huge range of sounds. I've been to gigs where the bass sounds sh*te but I wouldn't blame the TE amp, I'd blame the player for setting it up that way. Even just the 2 pre shapes available are like chalk and cheese but once you switch those off and go for the graphic, the sound options are almost endless from the fantastic to the horrifically bad.
Well said deedee. I think the presets sound dreadful and too many Trace users, use them solely. If you switch them off and go through the graphic only, there is almost limitless tone shaping. All backed up by that clear Trace growl. Peavey are crazy for letting a name that still holds so much weight (pun intended!) in the bass world just stagnate and fall by the wayside. We need modern Trace products. Micro heads and lightweight cabs!
7. I am an all Markbass bitch too! But damn I miss my Trace . My GP12SMX was crushingly good. So much more authority to the tone than any amp I've ever used.
8. Larry is the boss, probably only one of 3 bass players who can make slap bass sound good. The mans groove and vibe is unparalleled. A true pioneer.
9. I just bought a Markbass 122 ny and paid exactly the amount converted into £'s. No hidden charges anywhere. Postage was free. Edit - this was with a standard visa debit card.
10. Not very scientific I know, but I always sort of expect most used bass gear to be around half and a bit (5/8th's?). Quite specific I know xD. Down the years IME that's what most stuff goes for (certainly what I've shifted) and IMO, I think that is about right.
11.
I'm confused here. Any bass will work. Except a Hofner.
This
12. Never live, I like total control of my sound from my hands. The studio, yes.
13. FWIW I gig a Markbass LM250 Blackline through a GK MBE-II 410 (4ohm). I've played this setup at a massive outdoor stage (Brizefest) and numerous larger venues and not struggled for clean loud tone. That is also nowhere near maxed out too, plenty on tap in reserve. Funny how this would be considered a 'low power' setup. Edit - not quite so clean with the Spector . That thing is growl central!
14. If you're going through necks at that rate then I'd suggest a Status graphite neck replacement!! My Standard Mexi Jazz has had 5 years of hard abuse and the necks still immaculate!
15.
I always had this dilemma with Jamiroquai...... Loved the music though (at least until Stu Zender left).
This x100!
16. Cliched as hell, but I loved the first 4 albums. They were my favourite band in that era and then somewhere around 'In Your Honour' they turned into MOR stadium rock by numbers borefest that they are today. Shame really. Still respect them tremendously however and Dave Grohl is a legend.
17. I've been playing 13 years and tried pretty much every string from the major brands and D'addario for me are just a cut above. My go-to string being the Flexsteels which IMO are the best strings on the planet. I know when I buy a pack, what I'm getting. They last forever, are strong as an ox, harmonically rich and have such a nice feel and tension. The guitarist in my band swears by D’Addario too.
18. Congrats! It's beaut! Gotta say though, my Spector must be, flat-out, the most ridiculously ballsy and aggressive sound I've ever heard. The one thing I can't seem to do with it is 'mellow'.
19. Power Windows by Rush is also a great example of the Wal tone.
20. Another Spector vote here. Stuart genuinely cares about making a phenomenal instrument first and foremost and you can see his basses are an immense source of pride to him. Across all the ranges. My euro 4 se5 was the most sublime bass by far when I went to bass direct to try out some new basses. It positively oozed quality. Like Stuart says, he makes basses to stand the test of time and be handed down to the younger generations!
21. You are describing GK. My MBE cab is grind central, almost too much sometimes!
22. Sold my Modulus Fleabass to Chris. Absolute pleasure to deal with and a great bloke. Quick and to the point and good comms with zero nonsense. Deal with confidence! Cheers mate! enjoy!
