1.
I think if I was playing a 12-string fretless, I'd need to look for divine inspiration to work out where to put my fingers too.
2. I believe they were suggested to be paired up with the MBE series cabs, of which I have the MBE-II 4x10 version. Neo speakers, 800watt power handling, super light and compact dimensions with more punch than any cab I've experienced to date. Really hits like a hammer. The cab definitely has that signature aggressive presence that GK are famed for.
3. An older Fender rumble combo. The one with the red LED's. 100w through a 15. Truely awful!
4. 12 years and nowhere neaaarr as good as I should be. Don't worry!
5. They always were the Sterling by Musicman range. Ray 34's and Ray 35's. Great basses.
6. The headstock has the logo from this company http://www.kneguitars.com/index.php Edit - I believe KNE is short for keep needing ebay
7. Youtube bass demos. Very rare do you find a useful one, the rest of the time it's just self indulgent, smug, samey sounding slappery. Instant switch off. That said the best of a bad bunch are probably the session music ones (even though there's still too much slap and it's all in German xD)
8. Sorry to hear this chap. I do despair at the human race at times, what an absolute scumbag. I just don't understand how it's possible in life to be such an arse to another human being. Definitely still call the police, might be able to help it not happen in the future.
9. Truely unbelievable instruments. Punch, growl and clarity like nothing else. Mine just cuts like a lightsaber. Seeing as new these will set you back near £3k now, this is a bargain. Have a bump!
10. I don't believe in bad or good technique. Everyone has a different approach and whatever works, works. All that really matters is if you sound great and are comfortable IMO.
11. I'll take two WAL's for that amount instead ta!
12. My answer in these threads has always been and always will be Mike Mills of R.E.M and Bruce Foxton of The Jam.
13. I don't like 5'ers. I have one that is very comfy to play, it's just the actual tonality of those low notes and how they physically sound (brand being irrelevant). I really dislike it and have never gelled with it.
14. Ambient liquid drum and bass. Chilllllllllled!
15. I used to have one of these, brilliant cab. Great fit and finish and a nice smooth and rounded classy tone to boot. Have a bump!
16. I had a mij Geddy Lee that weighed a fraction under 11lbs, truely torturous to play longer than 30mins. It had to go. My mim jazz I now have is a straight 8lb'er. Much nicer!
17. I had the exact same problem with my 15-180. It's very common and is almost always a knackered transformer. Not an expensive fix and Ashdown are superb to deal with.
18. I'm 29 and been playing since I was 16, Only started religiously using plugs about 3 years ago. Although that (admittedly unscientific) test shows I don't have hearing loss, I do however have bad tinnitus mostly in my right ear. It's always at night and in the morning. A constant pitched note, it's very frustrating and scary to think there is no cure. It sometimes keeps me awake if I focus on it too much, so now I have some sort of background noise going on in my room at night to refocus my mind away from the tinnitus. I Now will use my earplugs in any situation where it is loud. Even at the bar I work at on a busy saturday. I also don't play music loudly in the car anymore and have my headphones on a moderate level. It's all about preservation!
19. i used to get this, comes from playing so hard the string doesn't actually get to vibrate properly, so the note won't sound out. I cured it by playing gentler and/or raising my action. Curiously enough the only bass this has never happened on is my old Epi T-Bird. You played hard, it came right back at you. Edit - my jazz is more suceptible to this than my other bass (I also had a Geddy Lee and was the same
20.
They've been hawking this guitar for ages: http://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/351330553716?nav=SEARCH I can't for the life of me think why nobody has snapped this up for £250.
Utterly farcical that they are asking £250 for that with a snapped neck.
21. My experience of GuitarGuitar has always been utterly superb. So much so, I try to buy all my stuff (new) from them, knowing if there is a problem, it will not be an issue. I'd be asking to speak to a manager, stuff always gets sorted when you go above!
22.
This thread has me wondering how frets are levelled with a graphite neck that has a predetermined amount of relief and no truss rod installed (this is based on me believing that you need to have a level fingerboard before you can level the frets).
Interesting point. I never thought about that. You'd sort of have to follow the curve so to speak?
23. So, I came back to the Modulus last night (hectic week) and got it playing perfectly. (realised the way I was measuring before was all wrong as Manton suggests!). I used the business card method/rough measurement at the 8th fret and also allowed it to settle (I think I was too hasty before in this regard). I also had a little rejig of the saddles made sure they are level and low and Suddenly BOOM there's my Flea again! The neck when I bought it was dead straight. Which probably worked with a heavier gauge of string creating more tension. However there is still a VERY 'slight' buzz that does remain curiously on the a+e strings so I'm definitely thinking it might need some light fret work on payday. Nethertheless it's good fun playing about with stuff and figuring things out. Thanks for the input guys
24. This makes my brain hurt even thinking about it!
25. From a lower budget perspective, I'm using an AKG P2. Unbelievably good bass mic for less than £80. Nice crisp detailed sound with no inherent scoop. .
