1. 1984/5 Squier P-Bass. It was an SQ series in white that had aged beautifully into a cream colour, white scratchplate. Maple neck with a rosewood fingerboard. It had a distinctive knick around the 12th fret, like a diagonal slash. I sold it to some guy down south (who was buying it on behalf of his son) for absolute peanuts when I was poor. I wonder where it is now? or even if a member of this very forum has it. I miss this bass hugely. Would love to have it again. Also a 1998 Yamaha TRB4II in Orange (serial number had an 8fk or something). My first 'real' bass. Huge sentimental attatchment to it but, again, sold when I was desperate for cash. Sold it to a guy who worked in PMT in Oxford circa 2005. I would literally pay anything to get my paws on this again! I always wonder where it is right now and what stories it has to tell Don't suppose anyone here has had either cross their path?
2. Been playing 11 years and believe it or not I don't really have callouses! But yeah keep plugging away chap and your hands should toughen up (or your nerve endings might die as seems to be the case with me )
3. I love the look of this!
4. I just did a sex wee, GLWTS!
5. Always like the look of a reidmar, if only they did a higher powered one
6.
That looks like someone has taken a Sterling neck and built their own body to replicate the old Stingray limited edition with the flame top. The pickups dont look right either, I thing the standard Sterling 34 has the new pickups with the built in sloping thumb rest bit, they dont look like normal Stingray pickups. I would stay clear, you wont shift that on IMHO.
My old Ray 34 had the sloping rest, so you're right. I think this is a clear bitsa. I know it's all subjective and whatnot but i think you'd seriously struggle to shift this for £500 Karlfer.
7. GK RBH series 4x10 is a very wide cab due to the side ports. Sound stunning to boot.
8. I think this one may have been tinkered with. I dont think they have ever offered anything like this.
9. For anything Trace, these are the guys. http://www.britishaudioservice.com/#!trace-elliot-parts/c1urq
10. Absolutely, Trace Elliot and Warwick is another that springs to mind.
11. I had to learn this for a covers band once, sadly I didn't tab/transcribe it. Really nice bassline. Edit - that was cuddly toy
12. I know it's been said a million times before but Fender's attempts at new models (imo) are always really dull. Maybe it's the high standards we expect due to the P+J basses. The Dimension was probably the best effort i've seen from them since but even then, it's still a little 'meh'
13. I thought all the acts were dull as dishwater. Safe and inoffensive. Edit - great to see Norm laying it down though!
14. Single H for me. It's what it was designed to be by Leo. IMO you buy a stingray for that classic awesome sound of the single H! Anything else (imo again) is not really a true stingray. Edit - HH also looks unnatural to my eyes
15. GAS'ing hard for one of these! (must not cave in so soon after buying my Modulus!)
16. Thought about trying flats as a cheap option to see if it changes anything before you do anything drastic? I had a Sandberg Basic, was a fabulous bass

Fodera anyone?

That looks grim.
18.
It may be worth you posting this in the Washburn owners club forum on TB? TB'ers such as MEKer are very knowledgeable and may be able to help.
Cheers for the heads up Bootsy, I'll give it a whirl.
19. Sand it down, see if there's anything under that!
20. I have an old Washburn AB10 that seems to be different from other ones in that it has a round soundhole, I'm guessing it's an early one but I can't find squat on the internet about it. The Washburn EQ packed up so it's retro-fitted with a Shadow pickup. Here's the only pic I could find (at work atm). Anyone shed any light on it? Cheers!
21. Yeah I'll give you that. A Trace with the preshape engaged is the quintessential slap sound.

23. I use a 1997 GP12SMX head, Ah300. The thing is a tone monster. Solid state and valve pre-amp blend is a great feature. 2 band compressor is really effective and the amp has more flexibility than any other I've used. It's got a certain fatness and punch to the notes that lightweight class D's (that I've tried) just don't have. It was Stuart Zender that turned me onto Trace. He still has the greatest tone I've ever heard, live especially.
24. FWIW I used to use a Warwick Profet 3.2 through a 410wca cab. Great setup and great quality but my Trace has a better tone and more grunt. You did the right thing
25. I used to love Jamiroquai but after Synkronized the band ceases to exist for me. That marks the point his ego went through the roof. It's quite funny to see how successful they were, that style of music wouldn't even get within a million miles of the charts today (not that the charts mean anything anymore) yet, Stuart Zender made me pick up bass so I'll always have a soft spot for them. I always felt sorry for Nick, such a great bass player and a seemingly top bloke. He was always on a hiding to nothing following Stuart and given that Jay Kay became more controlling and egotistical over the bands songs, I think he did well to last as long as he did.
