    Drink lots of water to stop the painful arm/cramp stuff. Warm you wrist up beforehand and stretch your tendons by bending your wrist either way (if that makes sense) run your wrist under the hot air blower helps & don't over play/ play too hard especially if you can't hear yourself - must most of all enjoy it and bask in the extra attention!

    It's worth you visiting the doctor to get things checked just to be sure - get them to refer you to a muscular skeletal specialist if needed. You don't mention if there's any inflammation (joint puffy/spongey, hot) if it is I'd recommend a rheumatologist. But... given apart from all the small print above.....your wrist is most effective if the fingers operate in a straight line to your arm, if you bend your hand,( either left right up or down) you need more force to move your fingers or more importantly to apply pressure at your finger tips. If your bass neck is longer than your natural arm reach so your elbow is almost straight and your wrist is doing all the bending (and - sorry for generalising but - lots of girls being of smaller build will have this problem) at the lower registers your hand will be very twisted towards your little finger and upwards when you play standing up. Try sitting down and playing see if it helps - if you don't get the same problem then it's likely to be be your wrist position while standing. Fixes - shorter scale/smaller bass, very light gauge strings, you could try shifting your bass playing position to a more neck centric one by moving strap buttons or strap over your right shoulder hope that helps

    I need to try gut strings I think, at the minute as I was doing a mixture of folk and swing and the Rock n roll band I stuck to Thomastiks - great sound and [i]really[/i] tough on the fingers for slapping. I suspect with the higher tension comes more sensitivity to external sources and so more likely hood to feed back - would be interesting to compare how guts react.

    rockabillybob uses a bassmax and a 4x10" cab and 800w amp if I remember right and swears by them. I ALWAYS got feedback with a bassmax although less then other piezo pickups so I went down the mag route. I mixed the piezo and mag signals at one stage then just got lazy and didn't bother. It depends on how loudly you really need to play (or rather how loudly you need your backline to be - put the rest of the signal through the PA) how sensitive your strings and DB are to feedback (steel strings feedback easier gut & co less) type of spike you use (anti wolf whistle ones work well) the type of stage you're on (sprung hollow wood is a nightmare) how you position your amp, what you've had for dinner , how many butterflies have taken flight in the amazon during the last song (they;re the only explanations I can find for having feedback one day and not the next in the same place with the same set up!) How much the drums shake your bass and strings also seems to have an effect

    see I try to take a year off to go camping and generally enjoy myself after all the 1950's rock and rolling and after trying for ages to find a country/bluegrass/roots band and now this happens! dilemma! must ....resist... foggy mountain breakdown.....

    yep - I use a barefaced super twelve T and an old ashdown ABM 500; Moses graphite mag pick up plugged straight in - great sound (not pure subtle DB but everyone else is playing loud anyway so you would tell) and bloody loud. I can also make it float on feedback just when I need it as well by hovering the bass right in front. sad but fun Normal use very clean sounding but no slap sound obviously. I've also tried kent armstrongs (good but a little muddy) and a KK bassmax (ok but too much feedback even with a plat pro) Summary - Anything other than a decent mag pickup look elsewhere but if you have a good mag set up it's great fun and a decent sound.

    If the tone on the candy red production models is anything like my duck dunn special edition (same pickups) you'll love it - think p bass with more depth and roundedness - really buttery highs as well - i love it

    and I declare this can of worms open... OK so you need to ask yourself the following questions: what type of strings are being used? Steel, Gut, Nylon how will I amplify the bass? volume needed? size and proximity of amp? amp only/amp and FOH/FOH only? PreAmp or not? What's more imporant - volume or tone? Do you need volume/tone adjustment on your bass or not? Do you mind making a permenant change to your bass to fit the p up? There's probably a load more you need to ask to get your perfect solution or just get a bassmax and a platinum pro

    Hi My son wants to sell his Ibanez Bass - SR300M in Candy Apple Red - despite his old man waxing lyrical about bass playing he just hasn't got the bug Anyway it's in perfect condition, no marks at all anywhere and a really excellent budget bass; plays really nicely amazing low action great tone.     Sorry hi-jacking your thread here Hmm there's obviously something that's helping your bass not feedback there... I wonder if it's the strings being lower tension. I've tried just about every pick up combination - bassmax did seem to be the best of the piezos (with plat pro it was pretty good) but still fedback a fair amount. I wonder whether steel strings with higher tension feedback more easily....hmmm lot of money for me to change again now tempting tho! You haven't got any other mutes or anything on?
