Hazy Bass

Are there any places near you that run regular jam sessions? They can be a great way to get started & also to meet other players who may be in a similar position to you. And what about local rehearsal studios? They usually have notice boards for musicians seeking bands & vice versa ...

No, never heard of them, but that looks cool! Styling very reminiscent of 1960s Epiphone solid electrics. Never seen a P90 on a bass before either as far as I can recall.

I built a 4x8 bass cab a few years ago using Fane Sovereign 8-125s ... usually use it along with a 1x12 but it sounds fine on its own. Not neo but given its size, not particularly heavy either. Described as a bass/mid driver & I use it at gig volumes without any problems.

And if you record both you can either mix them together or choose whichever sounds best to you.

Is there any reason it has to be recorded DI rather than with a mic? Given the choice I would always record acoustic guitar with a mic rather than DI, and with the budget you have available there are some excellent mics for recording. My favourite is the Audio Technica AT4041, but any reasonable quality studio condenser mic should give good results. Mic placement can also make a difference, and so can more than one mic. If you have to record DI then I would suggest trying a dedicated outboard acoustic preamp as well as just the guitar's pickup, e.g. Radial, Headway etc. These can make the world of difference.
