Would a GK MB112 be enough for a three piece classic rock band, small to medium pub gigs? I usually go through PA anyways(drummer is the soundman)so if amp had quality DI id be all over it. thanks Michael

Cheers sifi2112 (rush fan?) yeah keep seein old 80s 400rb and 800rb heads on eBay. Been tempted cud i wouldn't need that much power really. Thinkin i want more bigger size too so prob gona go for a 210\410 with a backline head. Do u think the 700rb has to be pushed at too loud a volume to get growly then? cheers mick

Hi lads and lassies, ill try and not make this an essay. I need some expert advice on what route to go with GK gear, im looking to step up from my meh Behringer combo. For ages i was sure i wanted a RB head/cab or combo, mostly for the GK sound(more specifically "growl") but after reading reviews of the MB series, I believe this sound can be acheived with the MB500 and combo range. Im currently torn between a 700rb/neo 410 or a MB212 combo. Weighing up the power of the RB series and portability of MB is proving tough, especially if the MB can get similar sounds. I play mostly classic rock with my covers band but also enjoy playing along to more modern stuff at home (Muse,RHCP,Tool). Price wise, its pretty much the same so thats not really an issue. On a similar note, could I get away with the MB112 combo in a rock band situation? (3 piece). Ive been using a 12" 125 watt Behringer but been pushing it harder than it wants to go. I know the GK MB112 is a world apart and rated at 200 watts so leaning towards this. What do you think?. Sorry, it was an essay Michael

Bumpdate Bit torn between buying a 400rb head off eBay for £200 or paying double that for GK 700rb 115 combo? anyone own either? Would a 15" cab cut it in a 3 piece classic rock band or should i buy the cheaper head and a 410? The combo uses the RBH cabs which are top end GK. Should i save my pennies for it tho? xgsjx, thanks for the input man, i won't be able to play through the amp unfortunately as Im buying it of a fella on gumtree and don't have a head for it that is sound advice though, try before you buy and all that. To be honest, im verging towards goin for cab, its cheap enough and powerful and has good reviews on here and talkbass. cheers Michael

Hi, im looking to upgrade my cheap and cheerful combo for a head and 4x10 cab configuration that doesn't fart out when pushed above halfway at medium sized pub gigs. A local fella is selling a Hartke 410 XL and I plan to pair it up with a Gallien Krueger Backline/400RB head. I have chatted with another bass player and he suggested that I'll need a cab with a tweeter (which the Hartke doesn't have) to get that "GK sound", (upper mids maybe?) im after. I play mostly classic rock but enjoy more modern bass sounds too e.g. RHCP, Muse. Obviously im not looking to exactly replicate these bands sounds (not on my budget ) but id like a fairly loud, fairly modern, punchy sound that will cut through in the mix. I know the GK sound and "growl" has a lot to do with the "boost" control also so could i mix it with the Hartke and get the growl im after or should I just buy a GK combo/cab with a tweeter? Any help/experiences with these amps would be greatly appreciated, cheers, Mick

I personally loved the "Jaco" book by Bill Milkowski and Joel Mc Iver's book "To Live is to die", the story of the late, great Cliff Burton. Ozzys book is amazing too(at least one laugh out loud every page) as is the "Fornication" book on the Chili Peppers. Anyone else got any suggestions? Cheers Michael
