1.
That is very good indeed! I am partial to a slice of prog metal. The mix is not deep enough for me to get the full rush, I think the high pass filter may have been a little Ann Widdicombe. BUT, otherwise, it's wicked! I love the parts with the clean guitar arpeggios, LUSH. You get a very nice tone from that German Warwick Rock Bass. Excellent mate!
Yeah got to concur with Nige thats great work
2. Had a bit of a thread going about how these guys managed to do a video and make it so unspectacular in what was a pretty amazing setting. The final cut is saved by the fact that a woman with big bazookas starts shaking them about on the dance floor. She winked at me too And the guitarist EQ'd the sound hence the loud guitar. Apart from that... Note: features slapping in parts (only cos it was in the original) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E8aVRHsmo7U
3.
Hey man, don't worry, no offense. I don't use google translator or whatever, just my english knowledge
Don't worry mate we all understood your post perfectly. You express yourself very well. I lived in France for 5 years and understand how difficult it can be to express yourself in a foreign language. Full power to you you are doing brilliant. And i completely agree. Teachers need to be special - not some average guitarist transposing guitar licks onto bass.
4. Yep very interested. High on the radar. Hope to bring a Hamer Cruise Bass, Little Mark II, Pimped Jazz Bass, Sadowsky Outboard PreAmp and some other stuff
5. Yeah its interesting stuff. I spent a long time, for no reason, trying to get that type of style going. I had a little thing going, tried it in the band and it was completely lost in a live context
6.
So, yet again our singer has booked some weddings and parties and seriously underpriced us again. Now, normal pub fee is £200 - £250, that's fine, that is pretty much the norm I believe, but he has just taken a private party booking an hours drive away for £200 for a five piece band, and a wedding for £300, as we all know a wedding gig is an all day affair, where we will have to bring all the lights, background music etc, set up midday, pack down around 2am, you all know the drill. My question is what do you guys charge for weddings and parties? what do you consider fair recompense?
That does seem way underpriced if you bear in mind that a typical wedding cake costs about £400 - £500! We charge about 3 times the price of the cake
7. Never ever get tired of their music. Great stuff.
8. It was a massive jugfest. At least a 9 on the scale (max is 11 of course). Oh and the gig was great.
9. Back to the OP and i would say that there are a lot of crap bass teachers out there and a handful of decent ones. It depends on what level you are with the instrument to a degree but i have had more bad experiences with wannabe teachers than good experiences with excellent teachers. This hasn't stopped me seeking lessons, i just got very choosy about who i wanted to learn from. Even then i do a few lessons and then stop and try to assimilate the info into my approach. Could be a whole year before i go for another lesson. After 27 years i realise that there is so much to learn and to be relaxed about how the knowledge is accumulated. Lessons, YouTube, copying other players and trying to work out why it works...its all valid
10. Got one band that is a function/covers band. Great money, fab gigs and good players. All gigs are through recommendation and we do about 80 gigs a year. I am in another "project" that is originals where there are two of us who compose and play all the instruments. The aim is to find a bunch of musos that like it - give 'em the CD and put an originals band together (it'll never happen)
11. Always seems a really good guy. Hes a great player whatever way you look at it - even if you don't like his approach you have to respect the precision and delivery of his playing. And whilst singing!
12.
Just that soapbars in Jazzes is a bad idea...
this ^ My reason is purely aesthetic.
13.
Anyone else encountered/suffered the same sort-of experience with their gear?
Yes, Lozz it was whilst i was at the doctors trying to get my back sorted. Had a bit of an epiphany on the doctors couch (ooooh err missus) and wondered why i was lugging the equivalent of a large Fridge Freezer around at all times of day and night when i was only using a fraction of it. Most of the time my amp was barely on. Now got a Markbass/TC Electronics setup and a trolley - go to the gym 3 times a week, bit of Pilates and eat well. I was a bit younger than you but the good life catches up with you in the end. Its obvious you love your P - Basses but apart from sitting down during the gig, which I imagine wouldn't suit The Daves, what can you do?
14. Go with the pros - earn and learn lots. Theres nothing like gigging full time to get you up to speed. You never know whats around the corner until you go around it and i suspect that it will lead to other things.
15. yeah chill Bilbo FFS what are you worried about. After 27 years I am STILL playing Chic covers.
16. Who is slagging drummers? They are soooo key to the overall band sound that finding a good one is like winning the lottery. Especially for a bass player. We have an excellent drummer and two great deps too
17. I love the Lakland one. He is so carefree and cavalier about the whole thing. You wouldn't be surprised if he twatted it with a mallet for good measure
18. http://en.wikipedia....i/Marcus_Miller It has a list of everything hes played on. Personally, i love the Grover Washington stuff. Something really cosy and warm with his sound and the whole period. It's all great the guys a living legend.
19.
Nope..
yeah whats he on. FFS get out a bit more mate.
20.
I've been saying to everybody, forever, that a band is only as good as its drummer.
Isn't that was one of the 10 commandments? If not it should be.
21.
There's nowt like putting new strings on and getting the neck just right with a little tweak, makes me feel like a pro!
You're so right. Now that i have the confidence i do exactly as you have said. Especially when changing the gauge of string. I have my necks where i want them and a little tweak can make a big difference. Still scares me though.
22.
I hope this makes sense, but you might get a bit more play in your rod doing it.
(trying to resist a double entendre but its soooooooooooo difficult) Truss rods are a bugger. I only fiddle with them if i really have to and always feel really scared when doing it.
