1. Hello good luck on your search B
2. Put quite simply i think you get what you pay for. It is a business for venues, they aint in it for love so they will always look at the profit margin - naturally. Personally, i detest backing tracks or triggered samplers or anything thats not being played by a person but i completely understand why there is a market for it.
3. As JTUK said - its important to work out each others commitment. For some its a bit of a lark whilst others take it more seriously. I think you have been incredibly patient - perhaps too patient. Two years is a long time. I'd have been off ages ago in search of something more "ready".
4. I use a different strap for each bass, adjusted according to the properties of each instrument.
5. I try to deals with people who are:

Regular posters in the forums
Have great feedback
So far, all the transactions have been smooth as a babys proverbial.
6. You'll look back and wish for this kind of ageism one day. When you get older you won't be able to audition for bands who are looking for 18-24 years olds. Its swings and roundabouts as are most things in life. Don't be offended and its not something thats limited to the music business. Most people though will cut you slack if you can back it up with your playing. We recently had a dep drummer (20) standing in for our regular guy (50ish). The dep was great. We didn't think about his age. As far as a working musician he could either play or not - and he could.
7. We did a wedding in Reading! Great marquee done out like a Bedouin tent. Nice stage. Great tasty BBQ and high class cake. The crowd were appreciative and we hit it off with the lady of the manor (who books a lot of bands) and the marquee company (who recommend lots of bands). Hopefully a new source of bookings, a well paid gig and fed and watered. All in all, cashback city arizona.
8. I think you look good with a strap on
9. Great band on this - chugging away like a funky train. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fSnHTRZ6PSg
10. Yeah but look at the blocks! If its local go give it a play. You could always make a silly offer?
11.
They've got these too, for 'programming' the drummer:
Can i have one for the guitarist pls? Trolleys are very good. Mine now "lives" in the car.
12. With the greatest of respect that bass looks more like a train platform than a bass.
13. Enjoy yourself Rhino lots of fun to be had Jerry
14.
edit - is it still raining down there?
Hi Welcome I hope your bass is waterproof. Never seen so much rain as when i went to Devon. Beautiful county though. Weather changes so damn fast. B
15.
So what are you thoughts on it all guys. Do you being an unsung hero? What do you think of the haters out there? Let me know.
All that thrusting on monitor wedges is very unbass. Ignore all the naysayers and enjoy being the glue that holds it all together.
16.
The LM II is shipped with a parallel effects loop, so if you run the compressor in the loop you get a blend of compressed and uncompressed signal, which I'd expect to be less 'effective' . Unless of course you've re-jumpered your amp so that the loop is in series.
I guess it depends on the definition of effective. More accurately i would say that i preferred using it in the loop. I am seriously tempted to take it along to a gig on Saturday now.
17. Great article, thanks.
18. J every time. I want to love P's but haven't found one yet that i can get on with for longer than a gig.
19. Your new bass looks gorgeous. I wish i liked the sound of Rics because i think the design is so cool. Enjoy it.
20. I tried a lot of Fenders before getting the couple that i use. They vary tremendously in build quality. There are better Fenders than Fender if you know what i mean. For a Jazz Bass you could try and score a Hamer Cruise bass. G & L do a lovely P Bass. Old Yamaha BB1100s are amazing if you can find one.
21.
Thanks for the tips. Cucumber made us laugh .............. I'll save it for if I get the job.
Made me wince (for a while anyway)
22. Ah its horses and courses. There are great basslines in all genres of music - even sh*t genres like metal have some great basslines
23. thanks - i'll check it out later :-)
24.
I've got my first audition coming up. I've got a set list that I'm working hard on but I'm wondering what people do to psyche themselves up for it so nerves don't wreck the day.
Stick a massive cucumber down the inside of your tightest trousers. If that fails do what Lozz said. Good luck.
25. I record a lot of stuff when playing at home through a laptop. I have found listening back to things that i think i have nailed has been educational. It's a great way to try out different bass ideas along with some chords and drums. Other than that theres some really good internet based stuff like Marlowe if you want to start getting some nice licks together quickly. If you want to understand why they are nice then you can go the Majors boot camp on this very forum
