If i were you i would ask someone who has made a successful claim. I was insured for a couple of years but after asking some questions of the insurer decided against it. Why? Because the instrument is not insured in your car and in some cases its not insured unsupervised (whatever that means). So it ends up that the only thing the instrument is insured for is accidental damage - if supervised. Its up to you but for me i am more concerned with gear being nicked from the car than anything else. All my gear is itemised and fully covered on home insurance though.

Can i just ask - what is a double stop?
This seems like the path for me, Although I probably wouldn't trust myself with a soldering iron, but what better time to learn eh, I think the problem is, I can't really try it out beforehand, so If all goes to sh*t, then that's 300-400 quid to pot, yours seems to have turned out pretty well anyway, how did it compare to a mex standard? how did the pickups fare up?
Its one of those things that you just have to bite the bullet and go for - hope for the best but prepare for the worst. The number of times i nearly put the hot soldering iron down on the bass body Fortunately it all worked out but i'd hesitate to do it to a more upmarket bass as i am a bit of a klutz. Rather pay someone who knows what they are doing. The pickups sounded pretty good to me. I used it on this recording http://soundcloud.com/bottome/i-love-dance and this one http://soundcloud.com/bottome/back-to-river-susan-tedeschi The bass felt ok - can't compare it to a Mex Fender because they vary a lot, or at least the ones i have played. On the other hand I'd say £300 - £400 could buy you a pretty good second hand bass these days
If so what would be the cheapest way to do this with the best sounding results, I was thinking putting a fender neck on a squier body with some new Pickups in, but that's just a shot in the dark, some advice would be much appreciated! Cheers
Hi, Yes all is possible. I did the same as you apart from i stuck a US P Bass neck onto a Squier P Bass body. I got some pickups from the US and an old wiring kit. I also bought some nice Fender machine heads. Took about 3 weeks to get all the bits together and a summers evening to assemble the monster. I used it live and in the studio then GAS'd for another bass so took it all apart and sold the Squier with the Squier neck. I still have the US PuPs and the wiring kit. I sold the neck to another Basschatter. I learnt quite a lot about bass construction, soldering, wiring etc which was the object of the exercise. I also learnt that i was sh*t at soldering You have to keep in mind that to anyone else this Frankenstein bass will have little monetary value so be prepared to shell out and not recoup your investment. Total cost for the build was £350. Looked like this:

Hi I've seen you about. Nice intro. Jerry

Bands are difficult - always have been IME. At some point i made the decision that if i get on with most people in the band then good enough - you can't be expected to like everyone in the world or them like you.

Thats lovely 2 Band EQ is THE Stingray.

Singers man!!! WTF is WRONG with these people??

Get ready for the flood of similar stories. Even "professional" people who do great things in their normal job can be complete tossers when it comes to a band and the obligations that go with it. I have had people pull out on the day of the gig before -
If its the Chinese made ones i would be tempted to get rid as you have suggested. I looked at them in the local store and they don't look as well built as the price would have you think they should be. All opinion i know but even the guy in the shop shuffled me over to something else when i started taking a really close look at the new range of stuff from EBS. I love the old stuff. The newer stuff feels cheap.

Meh - endorsements by artists are usually on pretty average basses. The reviews on these have been really negative. I have tried the Geddy Lee Jazz and that looked great but only just sounded like a bass and the Marcus Miller Jazz bass sounds pretty weak too. Do your own thing.

Recently scored an L2000 Tribute off this very forum. It is the best bass in this price bracket that i have ever tried. Nothing else comes close - not even nearly close. Build quality is very good, sound options are almost limitless, neck and body are solid and well finished. If i were hunting a bass in this price bracket and couldn't get a G&L i would either go for an old Yamaha BB1100s or a Lakland Skyline. The MIM Fenders i have had have all been sold pretty quickly. They all had issues and were very average basses. Go for it, Tributes are great.

I think you have hit on something thats a problem for all of us when there is no FOH. Stage sound is great till you move out front where the bass sound then varies according to where you stand in the room. You need to have understanding bandmates who will let you crankl the bass volume on stage AND KEEP THEIR VOLUME DOWN. I put that in caps because thats the hardest part. you can control your own volume but not that of your fellow musos. Good luck.
Wouldn't the bass sound sh*te if the sound card isn't a good one ? I was thinking of doing that but I have a 'standard' sound card, i think ...
Depends on lots of things. I have a usb soundcard which is fantastic. Best £150 i have ever spent. I live in headphones having two kids that i don't want to wake once they are asleep

Hello Mark Do you mind if i point my wife to your collection before she starts bitchin at mine? Thanks Jerry

Hi Carl you'll find a lot of Barefaced fans on this forum. Personally never tried them. Any decent speaker/cab should be good for any style of music IMO. See you around Jerry
Some cyclist called Victoria, or something like that - lovely girl. I reckon if she applied herself she could really do well, but she was talking about jacking it all in and not doing it anymore, shame.
Hmm yummy. Shes nice. Looks a bit like -
Here's me on the left. Pity about the overexposure, but it was only an i-phone. One of these days I'll have one of me playing!
Nice - who is the girl with the big shiny ones? -
You have a lot of good stuff going on in your life. Bands, fitness, studying, good job etc. Sounds great. I have done a lot of studying and believe me, its not like having a new baby. You can put a book down. Thing is you have choice. Choice between some good things. Clear communication is always the best way. Just be honest with your band mates. I know i always appreciate it when people are straight up. Good luck with whatever you do.

Hello Matt Nice to meet you from a fellow southerner Jerry

Je suis un petit pois Welcome to Basschat Jerry

Gotta to confess for having a bit of a thing for Madame Cholet

Heres the thing - in the studio little things can sound fantastic. The stuff that you do live than nobody ever notices will be heard! Its easy to overplay and a lot harder to just sit in the pocket and nail a groove. Have fun - good luck
