Nice one Jerry. I still haven't fully got to grips with mine yet, and, I am still a very beginning bass player, although a complete convert and really hope to get in a band one day. I am currently interested in a Fender USA P Bass Deluxe. Do you think it is worth spending the dosh on it or will the L-2000 do the job just as well. best wishes Mike
You don't need a P Bass - however, you might want one

Tough one but hey ho. Things move on. You said you were feeling disconnected - look into that. What made you feel like that?

Nice. Good luck. -
1981 - first gig on 6 string at a local youth club. Changed to bass the following year et voila! 30 years later and still loving it.

Hello Did you used to fly to Oman? I was working in a band there at one of the hotels and an airline pilot would fly in some nights and do the end of the last set with us. He played trumpet and was very good. Was it you? Jerry

+1 for a bit of french kissing with the Squier. Mines a beat up very old Korean P copy i got off of Ebay. Its meant to be a backup bass and it sits patiently at gigs tucked away behind the rig. Its completely as it was when it left the factory and sounds buttery beautiful and thick. Ugly as sin though. By the second set i can't resist it and it comes out to play for some of the old 70s funk classics. Pleasure to play and built like a tank. I do love my Squier

Yeah top marks to Mr King. Always, always seems to be a completely nice guy. Great pic.
... Hmmm... Well, it was a full 'Star Trek' band called 'the Crew' ..We did funky/jazzy versions of all the Trek themes plus many Sci-Fi TV & film tunes... Played a bunch of conventions (...some of the weirdest gigs I've ever done!) ... Did several TV appearances, including the Big Breakfast & MTV's Hanging Out... & it was a great gig in some ways.... but not what I was really wanting to do at the time!...
Great stuff you weirdo

Get yourself an active Squier Jazz bass and swap necks. Job done.
The dread of the Truss Rod is drilled into beginners. I think it must have started out as a "Just be a bit careful, if you were to knacker it it's a pretty big deal" and went on to become "Don't touch it! It'll eat eat the first child of every generation you spawn from here to eternity!". I often wonder if it's professional repair people that helped spread the fear. Over the last few years I managed to shed that fear and have been setting up Truss Rods with no problems at all. But, a few weeks ago, I had a Bass turn up and I couldn't quite figure out what was wrong with it to start with, so I panicked and immediately blamed the mysterious Truss Rod. So I'm not immune. I mentioned it in a thread on here and even when I later figured out that it wasn't actually the problem I still had people insisting that it must be. It's not some odd, magical device created my evil Magicians in dark, damp caves at the dawn of time, made purely to confuse and unsettle. It's actual quite simple and easy to use if not abused. Unfortunately, a lot of people never get over the initial warnings and end up carrying it on to the next generation.
You are right on the money there KB. Its true. I have been playing/owning basses for nearly 30 years (omg) and have only recently been confident enough to take on my own truss rod. There is a kind of myth around the sacred truss rod. There is a video from a guy at Lakland on YT about bass setup where he is tweaking his truss rod. He makes it look so simple...

The more comfortable you are with your sound - the easier it is to play. I had a jazz bass copy recently that to my ears sounded more like a Fender than my Fender. I believe it was purely down to the PuPs. So yes, go for it why not?
-
Just wanted to add that i have "Tweaked" my rod The difference it has made is quite incredible for just a couple of minutes fiddling.
Isnt this what jazz players do though when they improvise?
Sorry, i didn't explain myself very well. i meant that they had to learn it at some point. Nobody is born with this information. The more time you consider it as you play the more you absorb it until its almost like changing gear - something that happens on a different level of consciousness.

I have changed so much from my humble beginnings

You've done the hardest bit - identifying the issue. There are some great books - teachers - internet resources (Theory section on here). Take it slowly - learn one thing per day and practice it. Theres a lot of theory to accumulate but you can take as much or as little as you want as fast or slowly as you want to. You might really enjoy it and these skills are transferable onto other instruments if the desire takes you. C Major on the piano is the exact same notes as C Major on the bass, sax, guitar etc -

Hi News is that it got a kind of half-hearted response from the place that i thought would be ideal For them, the timing seems to be the issue as they have take a lot on recently. What kind of date would suit most people do you think? Obviously a weekend. Saturday or Sunday? Early or later in the day? Cheers Jerry -
Thats what makes it all worthwhile. Good luck.
