Nobody can do this off the cuff. Time and patience is what it needs.

I remember there being a website that allows you to listen to two notes and guess the interval. Its a bit of fun. One payoff is when working out other peoples songs - hearing, for example, when the chord changes to the 4th of the scale and knowing what the chord is straight away. Saves bags of time. You can almost visualise playing the song without hitting a note.

Its always nice to get another technique under your belt. Maybe add a bit of slapping to your practice routine - keep it slow and simple till it feels comfortable.
http://billfitzmauri....php?f=10&t=398 Sub Placement: While it’s customary with PA to have speakers to either side of the stage, that’s usually not the best way to place subs. Subs work best when they’re placed either close together for mutual coupling, or spread very wide to cover large areas. The basic rule is to have them either less than a quarter-wavelength apart or more than two wavelengths apart for their pass band, which for 40 to 100 Hz means less than 2.8 feet or more than 56 feet. To understand why click on this link, which demonstrates the destructive interference between subs that are separated: http://www.falstad.com/wavebox/
thanks for that.

Truss rod adjustment is confusing. They say "lefty loosey" and "righty tighty" Surely that depends on which way you are looking at your bass, from the front or behind? What do they mean?

Hello Dan good luck on Wednesday. We tried doing the same as you, originals and covers band - it was a hoot. We dumped the original stuff after a couple of years cos it was pretty rubbish and unpopular. The covers band is going great guns though. Jerry
Interesting question. I've never seen it done but would be interested in anyone experiences with it.
Kept thinking there must be a good reason for not doing this but what is it?

Does anyone who has more that one speaker cab split them up. For example, placing a cab either side of the drummer? If this isn't a good idea why not?
My iPad is only a measly first generation but it still looks nice and crisp so on a 2 or 3 I'm certain it will look fantastic.
I love this - technology...First Generation has to be all of 2 years old - and it still looks good! You guys...

As much as you can get. We got £2000 last year for a 5 piece and have got more and less in the past.

I tried to get my band to cover a Pilot track - they just laughed. Never mind that the song is brilliantly written, has some nice playing and was a huge hit in the days that you had to sell millions to get a number 1 Heres my memories: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XYfIFWhyznA http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SFiv9M577a4

Nice post thanks.

Don't you find that its inhibiting if you can hear bass overwhelmingly more than anything else? Turn down to where its comfortable to play and thats not loud enough for the room. Would it be a good idea to put one cab on either side of the stage?
-
Hi When watching other bands it seems that most players stand pretty close to their amps. Theres many reasons i can imagine why this is the preferred option. I tend to try and get as far away as possible from my speakers in order to feel more comfortable when i play. When its loud and i am right on top of the speakers i find it quite inhibiting. Where do you prefer to stand when playing in a band situation at a gig?
-
Good call. Its easy to get carried away, forget the role of the bass and stick a bit of bass wan*ery in the middle of a tune. Guilty as charged. Off to a gig in a minute and going to sit back and try to provide a groovin foundation for the others to work with. Thanks for the reminder

Markbass disappointment..............ok, but not great.
BottomE replied to EmmettC's topic in Amps and Cabs
It took me a few gigs to get used to the transparency of these amps. Now i struggle with other amps that seem to colour the sound. -

Kris and I swapped basses and i sent him some cash. What a lovely guy who does what he says he is going to do. Everything turned up on time, communication was brilliant and the bass was as described - better actually. If you get a chance to do a deal with Kris don't hesitate. Jerry

Hello and bad luck last night. Portugal = lovely country. Enjoyed Sintra and Lisbon a lot. Jerry

Hi and welcome to Basschat Good luck on your bass quest. The buzz that you are getting might be an earthing problem. Especially if it stops when you touch something. It might be an idea to ask the tech guy to look at that when you get it re-strung. The bass should be easier to play after having a proper setup. Your bass is a P Bass copy - a copy of the classic Fender Precision. Vintage are quite a respectable budget manufacturer. The instrument should be fine to cut your teeth on. Have fun Jerry

Mike i had a real workout on the bass last night playing through some recording software. Knowing what the switches do really helps I am very impressed with the quality of the sounds on this bass. IMO they are pro-level. They remind me a bit of a Lakland that i once had. The PuPs are really powerful - had to watch the clipping on the input. One issue i have is the action - i need to do a couple of things on the truss rod. All the best Jerry
Nope, never needed too. But just replacing my ACG would be over 12 years payments.
Optimism alone will not ensure that the insurer is going to pay you in the event of some disaster. I'd very carefully take another look at the terms and conditions if i were you.
Approx 12k worth of gear (new values) costs me less than £100 a year currently. So unless you're not gigging then maybe not?
Have you ever made a claim?
