Yes, i have a Korean Squier CN serial number P Bass and have modded it with some US PuPs an old cap and wax wires. Its a monster sound - one dimensional but plays well. The bass is heavy and probably indestructible. Nice neck.

Other people always sound better on your equipment. Its one of the 10 commandments.
Looks like a cool old P copy to me - can't be sure from the pics but it's either an Italian-made Melody, or a Musima from the old DDR! These were usually pretty well-made, maybe it just needs a good setup & a decent pickup dropped in. J.
Thanks for info The bass is more of a nostalgia item. The neck is split at the headstock and needs replacing - the pickup wiring is dodgy. Could end up being a "project".
Maybe they should be run as franchises. The tribute market is, after all, essentially about using an established artist's brand to generate income. Surely the artists who developed those brands should be able to license their use, and exercise some quality control?
Great idea. You could also put the auditions on a TV show and get the band to choose the winners! Another slant for the reality market. If Channel 4 won't do it Sky will. Alternatively, you could do a show on Inner City Sumo.

Yes, here it is. Sold it to a friend in 1985 and then lost contact with him. Last year he sends a Facebook friend request and asked if i'd like to have my old bass back! Its terrible to play and sounds awful but back in the day i loved it.
At least he had the balls to do it and isn't on a forum picking holes in it
Oh the irony of people moaning on a forum about people moaning on a forum. You gotta love this place. If you are putting yourself out there then you have to expect judgement. In the scheme of things it matters not a jot. Its hot air and opinion which is fine. He is probably unaware of this thread and wouldn't give a stuff anyway. To my ears it was a heap of baloney. Absolute tripe. But hey ho. -
Very tasty - the great players always have the savvy to put the right things in the right places but not all over the place - he does this so well.

Its a plus though if you like to muck around with some screwdrivers and a soldering iron and build things. So many options for replacement bits that fit the Fender model.

Principle involved here or am I over reacting?
BottomE replied to leschirons's topic in General Discussion
I'd find that pretty hard to keep quiet about TBH. However well intended, it feels dishonest. At the very least i would have expected some "consultation". On the flip-side, this is the entertainment industry where normal rules of business don't apply so am not surprised. In your shoes, i'd put it down to experience - you are still getting the same fee - i wouldn't want to let my band mates down if they still wanted to do the gig. I'd let Karma deal with the landlord. -
Flea's National Anthem at Lakers vs. Jazz

Quite surreal. I am guessing that he was booked on reputation. -
Sometimes the neck isn't warped it just needs a few tweaks on the truss rod. Used to be scared of doing this but it really impacts the performance of a bass and can often be the difference between a nice bass and a great bass. That said, you have no way of knowing until it turns up in the post.

Hi mate Good work. So much going on. Fav bits are the mellower sections because i found the drums too loud in the mix, especially the snare which i thought sounded too harsh for the vibe. Some nice changes of dynamics and chords - would like to hear more melodic passages but I am not someone who knows this genre of music. Love the pic on the website. Is that some fishermen? Arctic expedition? Anyways, best of luck.

Some nice licks on dat bass.

2 Jazz Basses get the gigs at the moment. One is a Highway 1 model modded with an Audere preamp purchased from BC. The other is an American Special which is a passive Jazz with a "greasebucket" circuit whatever that means. I bought it for the colour

Is the market for older instruments in decline?
BottomE replied to karlfer's topic in General Discussion
It is funny, when i started playing guitar in the late 70s / early 80s, the percieved wisdom was that you didn't buy a recent (ie, mid / late) fender as they were appalling quality. Same as early 80s gibsons. I suppose a lot of the really bad ones have been smashed up!
Its like the current high prices being paid for crappy 80s cars like NOVAs and Escorts. No logic involved - emotive purchases perhaps. -
Hiya Can't tell some key info from your pic. Are you logged into Soundcloud? Mine is setup to login automatically to my Profile page but sometimes it resets itself and i have to re-enter password - 1st world problem :-) Is the URL what you would expect to see? A quick resolution might be to try a different browser? I used Internet Explorer for ages then changed to Mozilla and have been using that which works well on an old Windows 7 laptop. Were pub/smaller venue bands quieter in the past?

Looking back at older films and photos, people tended to have bigger ears. Could be a factor. -
Even better when the singer (as one I worked with did) not only completely disregards the set list, but insists on doing songs that we have already done, and then asks the audience 'have we done so and so?' and when they say yes, she would then tell them to f*ck off! And that was a proper pro, though i did wonder about her having a large glass of wine in each hand
Funny. I like her spirit :-) We had a girl singer who jumped in and joined a fight going on in the crowd during a song. She went for the security guy who was ejecting a friend of hers. We just carried on playing. She got back onstage after about 30 seconds of punching and kicking and carried on.

Why is it that after working on a set list for a gig the singer then changes this halfway through? I'd understand if it were due to having to change tack due to audience conditions (not wanting to lose the dance floor with a slow song) but often its cos she just fancies singing something else. Keys/guitars have to rapidly change sounds for the song and the drummer, despite being asked to be conscious of this just goes 1-2-3-4 and off we stumble... Why is it that the drummer never remembers to check if everyone is ready to go before the song starts? Its not normally an issue for me (no pedals or such) but the keys is often missing from the first few chords as the drummer is so hyped up he can't seem to remember to wait. Every once in a while he is reminded - he says sure no worries - moment he gets on stage he becomes incommunicado.
I've been in the same band, playing pretty much the same set for 3 years now, and still struggle to name any songs we play when asked, but can play them all straight through as soon as we start.
Kindred spirit. Set list has 60 + tunes and i could probably name 10 of them.
I personally don't think vintage basses sound better than modern versions but I'm yet to play a bass that feels as nice as my '64 to play.
Just spotted you are a fellow Bournemouth based bass person. Nice to meet you. -

There are loads of reasonably priced good quality instruments these days. So much choice, internet, etc. In addition, I genuinely don't believe that a 60s Fender is going to sound £5000 better than one from the 21st century. -

I like playing quietly. Often the guitard will ask me to turn up and i'll say "No" everyone else turn down. The look of horror! Why do some people look like they've just dropped a bollock when you ask them to turn down? I try and plot my volume to the room and drums.
