1. sell sell sell. its only wood.
2. Yes, but I still don't have a fav - in truth i love most basses.
3. I am fingers all the way. I used a pick a few times but found it distanced me from my instrument. Couldn't do anything subtle with it. There is a guys who played bass for the Average White Band who played some decent funky stuff on pick though.
4. He don't alf talk crap sometimes. At least he is saying that it is his personal view that many might not agree with. He got that bit right.
5. Sounds enthralling really. Especially from here, 200 miles away. I look forward to the next episode.
6. On occassion, i'd say once a fortnight i work with a similar type of character. Always on the booze or other stuff though he is not violent (thankfully). He is a gifted song writer and a fabulous bloke - he has just had more than his fair share of demons. I have managed to teach him how to use Cubase and i think it has forced him to focus and become a little more reliable. He's quite intelligent and articulate - just seems to have a bit of a downer on himself. I like his tracks and enjoy putting bass on them. Fortunately we are all different.
7. If you are in a decent (cover) band you should be able to get a decent fee at a decent venue and wouldn't have to think about this kind of deal.
8. On quick viewing it seems to be a very conservative gig. The audience look really well behaved. I think he does look different to the other guys in the band but at least hes doing something. The other guys look as bored as i was listening to it
9. Happy ending for once on this forum Enjoy
10.
You and I were obviously seperated at birth mate.
could be triplets
11. Fair play to you for adding another technique to your playing.
12. I may be corrupting the thread with a bit of disco
13.
I saw John Martyn live at Glastonbury in one of the 'small' venues in either 1999 or 2000 sat on the grass in a tent about 10ft away from John. Can't remember if Danny Thompson was on bass but it was one of the most powerful and moving live sets I have ever seen and reduced me to tears..... 'No Little Boy' , would be my choice of first listening to anyone wanting to get to know JM's work.
I saw him at Salisbury Arts Centre in the late nineties. Very intimate venue - very powerful performance. He got bladdered during and after the gig but didn't effect his performance.
14. yummy
15.
It's only just crossed my mind.. I don't think i've ever seen a fretless fender jazz bass with a maple fretboard? Does anyone have one, and what do you think of it? Is there a reason why these don't exist?
Now you mention it - i can't remember seeing one either...
16.
LOL very artsy...
17. A Night in Tunisia - and the riffy part of the bassline at the beginning is actually a lot harder on this fretless than i thought it would be
18.
Couple of teaspoons works for me. Natural curve to the rounded back, bit of leverage and they're off.
Thanks - i'd also like to thank you for your mostly hilarious and sometimes incisive posts.
19. Thanks guys - i am going to start a build diary if you want a real laugh. First thing i have to do is getting rid of the white pickguard. White pickguards should be banned IMHO...
20. As you can guess i am a bit of a noob in the bass customisation department My wife also laughed at the thought of me soldering things Funny thing is i can't even see how to take off the volume and tone knob. The only time i have done this there have been little screws on the side of the knob. There aren't on this and i don't waqnt to pull really hard and then break all the innards. Confused of Bournemouth
21. Stevie Glasgow talks about his SB-30 Ok i googled it ...not a lot of info around as Stevie says
22. Sorry, i don't know the model. Being as its a Yammy - they rarely make bad basses i would definitetly go for a setup. One worry you may have is the neck as the loft is the one place in the house that gets the extremes of temperature. Cold in winter and hot in summer. It can play havoc with a bit of wood. I like the blocks on the neck.
23.
She's got a unique sound because of what she *does* play - it doesn't matter whether she's capable of anything else.
If she is offering advice then it does matter.
24. Jeez, another anti-slap thread. Yawn.
