Has a certain "ring" to it.

I have got an MIJ one on loan that has been defretted - nice job too. I am really impressed with the bass and like the range of tone available from the active EQ. Don't know how much i would pay for one. My mate wants to sell this bass so i am watching this with interest. -
Of course, it's the same for her as it is for you at the Twat & Buttplug. Have you never had some sh*t happen to you or another band member on stage? Have you always given a perfect performance?
No, its not the same and thats my point. Me being out of tune might not have such an impact at the Twat and Buttplug. I am not playing to thousands, not that its about the numbers. We are talking about being in tune. Quite an important thing in a band situation for some of us. Its not like a hardware failure or amp or string snapping. Its being in tune. I bet she checks next time...
How many people at this level tune their own basses? Surely they would have techs?
Yes, they have techs - but they aint the ones playing the guitars on stage. At this level you want to be sure you're in tune don't you? Tune your own instruments or have some kind of tuner running whilst playing. I manage to do this playing at the Dog and Duck for 30 punters. Amazingly i can check my tuning whilst playing. Ingenious.
"No time to check exact tuning"?? Give me a break...how long does it take to tune a bass?
+1 inexcusable. Tune your own bass and KNOW that you are in tune. At this level unforgivable.

Alternatively, fly to the US have a holiday and buy a Hamer Cruise bass while you are there
Count Basie's piano playing is the best example I know of 'less is more'.
I'd also add George Shearing. Amazing what he did with just a few notes and deft touches.

I've got the best amp in the world! (but I never get to play it)
So you've got an amp that looks good but is too heavy to take out! What's the point of that? Most of my bands want the bass flapping their trousers. Small, loud, light black boxes do that and don't break my back. I don't care what it looks like, at the moment I'm using the lightest and most sensible rig I've ever owned.
+1 to that. Even in some large venues that have a decent PA they often only put a smidge of bass through it as the band want the backline pumping and the amp/cabs project so well. -
I've just ordered an Audere JZ3D for my mex jazz deluxe...was very excited, however whilst playing said bass at my gigs today, i thought 'this sounds really nice'!...Now I'm worried that I'll lose that Jazz bass growl on the back pickup/depth on the neck pickup with a 'high end' pre amp... I only say this because i find that my Sei Jazz bass which has an Aguilar Pre and Kent Armstrong J pickups just never sits well in a live mix.. Is it a Fender pre amp thing? Can anyone re assure me? (I have Wizard 64's on the Jazz bass)
You should be fine. I think you will find you have a more tweakable growl

Our lovely singer wears some great stuff on stage - always very high heels. One night she had a lovely flowy dress on and when she stepped back her heel caught in her dress. As she leant forward it picked her foot off the ground and she became trapped in a really uncomfortable position with one leg slightly raised. Well, she hopped about looking for a helping hand but both mine were busy - same for the guitartist and drummer. She finally did a manouver that freed her from her predicament and like a pro joined straightback into the song. The incident only lasted about 20 seconds but was very funny. I have had the old strap detaching itself from the bass halfway through a song and had to carry on playing whilst holding the bass in position.

Saturday night at a Bistro/Wine Bar. Not too busy to begin with but those that came in stayed. Got really busy towards the end of the night with a flurry of dancing from some very energetic young ladies. Even better, access to the stage was brilliant as was parking and i was home before midnight. Cashback!

I got the CS 60s in my Hamer and they are seriously vintage PuPs. I don't like much treble in my tone so these are purrrrrrrfect. They have such a growl that i often look round to see if a very vicious dog has snuck in the room.

Had similar issues over time. I tried SD's and didn't like. Always found them a bit brittle. I have gone back to Fender Custom Shop PuPs - sound great with the audere preamp
The best thing to do is walk away from it and come back when your ears feel refreshed. There's nothing worse than realising you've spent the past 2-3 hours putting a coherent recording together and then over-egged it. It's easy just to keep throwing tracks on top of each other and then finding that you've lost the ability to be subjective about what you've just recorded.
Amen to that. For me i need to be working on 4 or 5 songs at a time so that i don't spend too much time on one. My ears and objectivity are only good for about an hour per song. Most of the stuff i delete is after that first hour period when i start using Asian scales and samples of Sparrow farts and such like.

Mine fitted without any mucking about i am told but i bought it pre-installed on the bass so can't verify that as fact. When i have opened it up it doesn't look like anything was done in terms of routing. One thing to make sure you do is buy the smallest battery of that type possible. I learnt that batteries of the same type can be different sizes.

Respect to you. Amazing.

DR's for the last few years. Tried a lot of others before but the DR's have been the most reliable.

Or you could buy this box: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Large-Acoustic-Bass-...=item45fb3f2f4d This guy (who i know and is a guitarist) is seriously selling off cardboard boxes that he gets for free when his stock is delivered. He must have got the idea from peeps selling on Ebay going into his shop asking for boxes and being the tight fisted cnut that he is decided to sell them. Sure, some will say good luck to him. I say, No, you are a tight-ass, mean spirited tiny minded ahole. What particularly galls is that last time i spoke to him he mentioned that he started playing bass in a local band though he is a guitarist and finds it all a bit easy. I heard him play and it wasn't pretty.
If there is, I'm not aware of it, but I bet someone has a good alternative to offer
You could go for an Audere PreAmp. They are (its all opinion) a really good quality preamp. And it has a little blue light that flashes on and off when you plug your jack in! Very cool and the envy of many a bass player. Seriously though, the Audere is excellent. Edit to add URL: Auderes website
5 string is just a 4 with an extra thumb rest ..... it is in very good nick for it's age.
Hehe i sold my 5 strings for that reason. I think i look a better bass player having to squirm up and down the fretboard than benefitting from the positional advantages a 5 string provides. Have another "i can't believe you haven't sold that beautiful Hamer" bump on me...

Yes, i have had girlfriends like that in the past. I kicked them into touch pretty quickly. Life is too short to put up with others insecurities. I have been with Mrs BottomE for 12 years and never had a crossed word about it. She has her own stuff going on and i never complain about that. Teamwork and understanding. If you ain't got that it'll all come to a head evetually.
