1.
Do you want to swap it back?
is it my old bass? i have sold the MIM Jazz.
2. That looks like my old one! Where did you get it? I swapped it with someone at Fleet Services for a 5 string Jazz Bass. Wish i'd never done it now.
3. Good to read something positive. May the force be with you.
4. Maybe this should be another thread called "Do i have to like my fellow band members?" - I am with mcnach though. I don't believe you have to love your fellow musos to be in a good band. In fact, the better the musos that i get to play with the more socially inept and strange they seem to be. But thats not important. I don't want to sleep with them and already have a nice group of friends outside of the band thing.
5.
Staying with what I've got for now, getting some Radio Shack knobs just to get it working. I need it playable... I'll move up the scale as I go along here. Pix asap!
Theres still time to cut a big hole in it and whack in a 2-Tek. Seriously - i know its going to sound even better with the new paint job. My birthday is coming up and have asked Nicole, my wife, for soldering kit and a bass kit with rulers, gagues and truss rod things. As you might have guessed i am a complete noob at this kinda thing but you have inspired me to start tinkering. I have a mate who asked me to "take a look at his bass and sort it out" He is a guitartist and bought it (old Ibanez) for people to use in his studio. He is under the impression that i know what i am doing I've never even put a scratch plate on and always given jobs like PuP swaps to techs. 1 willing victim + inspiration = ? Is it possible to die from re-wiring a bass incorrectly he mused to himself. Can't wait to see the next set of pics when she's all tackled up.
6. Get your ass out there and do the gig. Bands are notoriously disorganised and bad at communication. If it goes bad put it down to experience - if its good you may be onto something.
7.
Buy a modern telly, they haven't got tubes
8. Keep forgetting to watch it - i miss the Tube
9. Wow - exciting times. So you are definitely going white? Does that mean a re-think of hardware?
10. Hamer basses are completely uncool - never ever met anyone else in the UK with one. Despite the cruise bass (being the first bass) getting a perfect score in Bass Player Mag.
11. whats that Hamer that he's playing?
12. My Favourite Things - Richard Rogers
13.
I have a focusrite saffire 6 interface i'm selling at the moment if you'd be interested, Mint as new with box etc. Great piece of kit, its just a shame it doesn't get used enough for me to keep it. PM me if you do. -Tom
Just an agree with you on the nice bit of kit bump. I dropped mine on the parquet floor in the dining room Plugged it in and good as new. It has a metal case which i think makes a difference. The knobs are robust and the preamps if you use them are quality for such little price. I tried M-Audio which i like as internal sound cards but this was much better than their (plastic) USB interface.
14.
Just remember, once Soul and the Funk is in your blood, you can hide, but it will always find you in the end.
+1 come on Bubs or give me your Jazz bass. Its easy.
15.
Definitely, there is a lot of people that consider the 2eq to be closer in sound to early stingrays than the 3eq. Me?....my amp EQ is all I need lol. Best preamp I've ever played has been a 2band! Si
The 2 EQ is the mutha of all StingRays bump
16. This is insane. If ya don't like it don't read it.
17. The Focusrite Saphire 6 USB interface. It provides a studio - the ability to record all my basses - import midi files and play along - record practises - play along to the Abersol mp3s - record other instruments. Wow - not even £150.
18. do something different. play different music. get some books on technique. take a holiday. change is as good as a rest. if all that fails gimme your Jazz bass
19.
I really am just fitting it in where I can Gareth there is no real goal because there is always more to learn, The one fact is that I know more now than I did before which has to be good IMO and I dont mean just the reading bit, The whole mathmatics of the bass are becoming clearer each time I spend an hour on it.
I think i am traveling a very similar path to you at the moment Mr Stingray. Apart from the 5's i know exaclty where you are coming from in terms of this process providing an expansion of possibility. Quite exciting really. Good luck. And i have nailed Sir Duke
20. Can't imagine not having one now (USB interface). So easy, portable and good quality. I have one of these Focusrite which is well built and good quality. Take it round peoples places with my laptop and use as a mobile studio. Use it at home to pratice.
21. Jeez that is a lovely looking bass.
22.
Hi again, The first three to go will be an old unlined fretless Stingray 5 in a honey type sunburst, an almost unmarked Pedulla Rapture 5, single Bartolini with a beatiful birds eye maple fretboard, in a sort of butterscotch finish, and a US G&L 2500 5 string, again almost unmarked, in a sort of red sunburst. Have yet to sort some photographs and prices out. Next in line MIGHT be an Alembic Orion 5 fretted in the usual flame maple, ebony fretboard, although I've taken a liking to this one all over again after getting some larger position dots fitted by Paul Strike. Great sound, but some buckling (which is pretty standard for this finish). I'm not desperate to sell any, but would like them to go to good homes, for sensible prices. Cheers for now. Graham
Sounds like you have some nice basses Shame none of them have 4 strings. Do put them on the For Sale forum though i would say there are a lot of high end 5 stringers on there at the moment. Good luck Jerry
23.
Heres a couple of recent vids of ours: "For Ourselves" "SY:NC"
very slick - good stuff!
24. well done for putting it out there and providing entertainment to the public. Good on you mate. A few ideas... IMHO I think its hard to love all the songs that you play in a cover band. I am sure there are many big artists who squirm inside when they have to do certain songs over and over again. Or even the same song forever (Status Quo). Its a good idea to look like you enjoy them though. We realised that we were static on stage - the moment we moved around a bit the audience really noticed. Our singer is completely nuts too which is good. Backing vox would be a help and maybe an instrumental or two to give a break to the singer and the audiences ears. Does the singer play any instruments? What about doing an acoustic track? Does the guitarist use different sounds? Sometimes its easy to worry overly about the musical content (yes its important) and forget that you are providing entertainment. Try to think of how things look from the punters perspective.
25.
Thanks, perfect EBS.
+1 love you long time thats nice
