For example, the Philly sound of the O'Jays, Harold Melvin, The Stylistics etc.
+1 The Stax band were amazing and their sound not "disturbed" by all that furious tambourine jangling which is a characteristic of so many early Motown tracks

You'll get a thousand responses - all different from Basschatters. It's what you think that really counts though. Are you happy with it? Personally, i would ditch all those pedals.
3. I just realised you are in France. I was there for about 6 years playing in Paris and had quite a few similar experiences. That said, it could happen anywhere. I am surprised that you have got so much mileage out of this thread though. After all, thats why you have auditions right? To see if the applicant is suitable? To sort the wheat from the chaff. They were not suitable so hey try someone else. If i posted a thread for every time we had someone fail an audition it would probably need another Forum.
4.
Most cost effective way is probably to get some shareware multitrack software like Reaper and use the soundcard already on your computer. The difficulty is that the soundcard will probably not get on well with the level coming from your bass, so you may need to put it through a DI box and / or small mixer or preamp first. Jennifer
+1 Bass > USB Interface > PC MultiTrack Software The Multitrack software will allow you to monitor the .mp3 of guitar and drums and record your bass alongside onto a seperate .mp3 track. It is a brilliant way to practice new songs and bass guitar in general as you can use headphones. This will not disturb the neighbours and let you play at all times of the day. You can also loop the track so you can go over it endlessly until you are happy.
5. I think its natural to be curious when it is something you feel strongly about. At the same time it pays to have clear ideas about what it is you want. I was "happy" with the same bass for over 20 years. It was more than adequate for what i was doing. I sold it and have 3 basses now which i intend to keep. In some senses the more basses you try the harder it will be to find one that you like (just like da ladies). Sometimes ignorance is bliss.
6. I have had a little play with them and they feel either too far apart or too close together. Theres no way someone as cack-handed as me is gonna start filing away at it so i guess i might try a standard Fender bridge and go from there.
7. Hi to a fellow southerner
8. At the moment i can't imagine not gigging money or not. So, i guess the simple answer is yes i would.
9. Enchante mon ami. I am an ex French ex pat returned to the UK after 5 years in Paris and some time in the south. Where are you in La Republique?
10. Well, you got me thinking. Having never tried flats i'd like to give 'em a go. Would you say that they are better suited to active or passive basses or doesn't it matter?
11.
Appreciate your initial comment however, her dad was there and was bigger than the 4 of us put together. Moving on and finding someone is obviously what we'll do but the reason I posted was the behaviour of what I consider to be an irresponsible teacher.
Sure, but you may find the teacher acted with good intent. Call him if you feel you need to - I'd just say hey, it didn't work out and forget about it.
12.
We did the sensitive, "we'll e-mail you as we have others to audition".
I would have kicked her in the fanny and told her to **** off. Back on Sensible Common you did the right thing. It's not easy auditioning even when you are competent. Musos are so strange - its quite daunting walking into a room with a load that you don't know. Move on, you'll find someone.
13. Its great. I really like it in fact its given me some ideas so thanks. Just tell me you were balancing that bass on something soft.
14. No i don't think you are shallow. You gotta have a thing for the bass you sling round your neck. Why did you get one if you think its ugly? At the risk of being flamed i also think they are ugly basses but do what they do very well. You always know its a Warwick - they have their sound.
15.
I just found this video and... well... just enjoy! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b__q3oGx898
priceless
16. Friday night was 1812 cocktail bar and we served up a soul and funk stew for the evening. Guest vocalist did a song with our vocalist and was very cool. Tonight was out to the country in Lymington and did a bluesier set. Gigged my (new to me) Jazz Bass for the first time and have been impressed so far.
17.
Yeah, for my part of over it! Probably good, I'm no longer worrying it, I'll just git 'er done. Photos soon as she out of the booth!
I am off to a gig but your last sentence has given me a semi...
18.
My Mike Dirnt came from the factory with the grooves already in them does it look like I think in that picture the A string was in the wrong groove.
Yes, this is the one.
19. Hello, i recently bought a Fender Jazz bass with a Badass II bridge installed. I notice that each saddle on the bridge has 4 notches where it is possible to place the strings. Is it just a case of threading the string into the notch that i want and making sure that each string then follows the same pattern or is there a specific rule that i should follow? Sorry if this sounds like a dumb question. I had the bass setup but the strings are a bit far apart for my liking. Thanks
20. Here are the first few songs from one of our cover sets: The Meters - Cissy Strut Curtis Mayfield - Move on Up Incognito - Always There We won't go near Mustang Sally or any of the Commitments/Blues Brothers stuff. Loads of bands do it. Whats the point in being like all the other bands?
21.
I just got my job back after about 2 months, so no color yet! It's on hold, but I'm playing it in its unfinished state. Not pretty, but it's still a beaut of a player! Patience...
soz Count - the lust is getting the better of me...
22. I have a Focuswrite USB interface. Used daily for a year without a single problem. It is well built, extremely easy to use and gives fantastic results. Much better than the M-Audio interface that it replaced.
23.
I recently bought a Sadowsky pre-amp/DI box and having not used one before I just wondered how I should use it live as I have a gig in a club with an in-house PA tomorrow night. The pre-amp sits at the front of my pedalboard so takes the signal straight from the bass and then passes through to the first pedal on my board. I presume that if I take the DI from the Sadowsky rather than my amp then none of my effects will be heard out front as the signal is taken before the first pedal? If that is correct then is there any smart way around this?
I have a Sadowsky DI/Preamp. The DI on it is excellent (so i am told) and most sound engineers prefer it to the DI in my Mark Bass Amp which often causes issues. I don't use any other pedals, in truth i don't use the Sadowsky much, but there is a "standard" way to chain effects. Don't ask me what it is but there will be some much smarter people on here who might be able to tell you if it is ok to put the Sadowsy last in your effects chain. If it is last you will be EQing your effected sound. I am not sure that it is what the Sadowsky was designed for but you never know it might sound ok.
24. (taps fingers)
25. We have managed to do alright without playing the "expected" covers. We sometimes get asked for them but say we don't know them. There are loads of other songs that will get the room jumping. I think that people come to see us for what we do and not a band churning out the usual suspects.
