4. Hi, how do you get the You Tube window and not just a link to appear in a post? Thanks B
  5. As an aside how much are Hamer Cruises with 2 Tek selling for in the US these days? They are like rocking horse sh*t over here - almost impossible to find. I am lucky enough to own one and it is one of the finest basses i have ever played. Truly amazing build quality. I'd buy another one in a flash if i could find one. btw - I love your project. Its a bit mad but appealing.
  6.
Worth a bump then ebay
me want but you too far
  7.
Thanks. I do think it looks a little "unexpected"- almost a little bit of a challenge to the mainline sensibility. The lines of the horns are sort of a surprise to look at, I find. But the language of "play it for a while" is really a way of saying "need a paycheck"... probably a couple weeks.
Hi, i have just seen this. OMG that was a Hamer Cruise? Have you got a pic of what it was like originally. Amazing!
  8. Hilarious. I have had over the years a mixed experience but mainly positive. I always look for peoples human qualities before musical ability. Getting both is a real bonus. If you have the right people you can make good music. There are plenty of guitarists - if i were you i would get another one as that tuning thing would drive me insane.
  9.
Cheers Jerry, will do. Actually you probably missed the best jam of the year on New Year's Day, at Champion's in Bournemouth. I was on drums literally half the night with Pat Davey, Paul Stacey, Pete Case, Simon Wood, Scott McKeon and all sorts... didn't get to play bass once though! lol Yep, already well GASsed up. I think I've got a buyer for half my liver though, so that EBS rig is one step closer
I know those guys. Sounds like i missed a treat. I recently did a gig at Champions with a guy called Hamilton Loomis. He is amazing and had been selling out in other towns in the UK but only 20 people showed up for what was a great gig This country!
  10. Gigged in a new venue last night. Made the mistake of turning up after the guitartist and drummer who nicked the only parking spots and left me about half a square foot on stage! I was setup next to something like a BBQ that stank of old roast dinners which was a distraction. Audience were very attentive though and after the gig a guy accosted me in front of the singer and guitartist saying, "You make this band man, you were excellent". He then turned, looked at the guitartist said nothing and walked off. Guitarist very pissed off.
  11. Hello, i am am Dorset bass player. Next time you are coming down for a jam let me know. This is a gr8 place but be prepared for serious GAS! Jerry
  12. Magpie land? Would that be Newcastle? Do you have any pics of the whole bass? Thanks m8
  13.
Wouldnt mind this bass back, wicked Jazz bass growl.. pitty i cant afford to... Buy with confidence... Matt was a pleasure to deal with
man that is a good price!
  14.
I had a SR5.. but it didnt sound like this..i dont know why but a stingray is just appealing to me now.. sounds like a Jazz with more punch.. i played one once in a pub through an TE, and it sounded great, but the jazz at the time sounded better.. dont know why i havent noticed it before but the fatness of the SR4 is very cool... 1oopus posted this vid and the bass sounds so so good.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=StP0_zbDIMo...feature=related i could be sold to an SR4...
get one get one get one. took me 25 years! they growl but differently to a Jazz.
  15.
The hiss might be on the amp the whole time and it's just you can't hear it via the bass amp's speaker cab and it's just the PA speakers that can reproduce it. Or, the Di circuit is damaged or just not very good.
Is there a post or pre EQ switch on the DI? I have had problems with the signal from my amp being too "hot" and if you look at a previous thread in this folder there are some suggestions of how to get around this. Have you tried it on more than one desk. Could be you got a sh*te wiring config and that it is particular to the place that you played in.
  16.
When I hear the sentence "Monster bassline" I only have one thing in mind. Willy Weeks in Donny Hathaway's "Little Ghetto Boy". That's what I call bass playing.
+1 Indeed - this has been one of the regular CDs in my motor for the last year. My dad gave me the album! He (Willy) does one of the most rythmic bass solos (owes a lot to the drummer to) which is a pure joy. Not loads of tapping (yawn) and slapping but pure and beautiful bass. Nice.
  17.
Thanks!
good work m8. i am into the funk/soul vibe but can appreciate work well done.
  18.
Enjoying this thread George Porter Jr anyone? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NuRDMu87tl0
very naughty post. Wow - loving the variety - the new stuff and trips down memory lane. Always pays to keep an open mind. Try this for size: The O'Jays. Is this one of the first uses of some kind of distortion on a bass? XTC

one of the first covers i learnt was "Making Plans for Nigel" - for the 80s this was a very good band
  22. cool - nice job
  23.
That's great - brilliant song and cool bass playing & tone too
Jeez, that is good. Forgotten about that. Also really like this at the moment - the bass is fairly simple but i love the way it is used as an intro. And the hissy sound of (i presume) tape. Yeah baby. Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons (say what?) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XsSoDsxB7Yo
  24. We all have our favourite players and tunes. What are you really digging at the moment. I'll start you off. Just re-discovered this. My bro bought the 12 inch when it first came out - he's always had better taste than me and he is a drummer!
