If it sounds good to the crowd then sometimes you have to put up with a poop on stage sound.[/quote] +1 the number of times i have had an uncomfortable stage sound but a great sound to the audience...Bass is quite difficult to judge from an audience perspective - you either need someone you trust to let you know how you sound (not the guitarist) or a nice long lead to go hear for yourself. That said, i changed my amp and speakers and found it easier to dial in sounds for different venues. Start with a flat eq. Hopefully you won't have to change it too much. And the sound will always be different when there are a whole bunch of peeps in the room.

Impressive gear although had to return the 2x10 as the speaker jack input on the rear failed. I use the Speakons now so not a problem.

Ok, ok the sale is off. What was i thinking. You guys have persuaded me to hang on to it. And you are probably right. There are a lot of Jazz basses out there but not many of these. It's a keeper. And £500 doesn't sound a lot for the quality of this instrument. Wise words - thanks a lot. (Will have to fund the Jazz from that old 5 string MIM Jazz that i have in a case somewhere)

Not being used to passive basses i was horrified and changed them for some Duncans thinking i would get a more "active" sound. I then grew up and realised that the original Custom shop PuPs were great and re-installed them. Originally i think the Hamer was sold with some form of Duncan PuP. I must say thanks for all the lovely comments. My bass is blushing. Sometimes you just take things for granted. I plugged it in last night and did some recording in CUBASE. Just listened back on fresh ears and it is a great sounding bass. Truly rich sound - and the sustain...... I have been underwhelmed by the different Fenders i have tried recently - that said i am probably going for a US Maple Necked one with s-1 switching (featured in the articles for sale). I'll have all bases (pardon the pun) covered with the Lakland, Hamer and Jazz bass. Probably get another dose of GAS soon though...

For some reason i believe i need a Fender Jazz (i blame the guitarist in my band as he is a Fender nut) but when i go check them out the build quality isn't as good. I end up playing the Cruise Bass and thinking why would i want a Fender? Maybe familarity has made me not appreciate this baby?

Often quoted as being the first bass to get a perfect score in bass player magazine although i have never seen the article. The finish is amazing and build quality incredible. They went for $1400 new when introduced. It is a heavy bass but not unbearable. I have done loads of gigs with it and still have a relatively straight spine. Anyway, here are some pics...

Got a lovely Hamer Cruise 2-tek from about 1994. It is a cherry burst, completely mint and has had some Fender custom shop PuPs installed. What sort of money should i be looking for if i were mad enough to sell it? Recently GAS has had me looking at either a Stingray or a Maple necked Fender Jazz.

Anyone else changed the pickups in their Yamahas? T[/quote] I had a BB1100s - 80's model. The last thing i would want to do is change the PuPs as they are wonderful. The electrics in the earlier BB models are amazing . I understand fancying a change and all that. I changed the PuPs in one of my basses and instantly regretted it. Why not get a new bass instead?

Hi, having two young kids at home its difficult to get the rig out and use it for practice. This means i am normally practicing the bass without amplification and i have noticed that it is adversely effecting my technique. When i get into a gig or rehearsal with the rig the things that sounded great "acoustically" don't sound so great. What machines/tools/methods are there that you can recommend that will let me practice effectively? Thanks.

I love showing these topics to my wife to prove how restrained i am. There are a lot of basses out there but hey can i be the only person on this thread to have a Hamer Cruise Bass? I haven't seen any mention of them! Here is my puny list: [b]Columbus Precision [/b]copy - 1980 - 1985 - absolute bag of rubbish but didn't know any better [b]Yamaha BB1100s[/b] 1985-2009 - seemed fantastic after the Columbus. Actually this is a fine bass - very versatile [b]Hamer Cruise Bass [/b](with 2 tek) 2007 - present day - terrific Jazz bass clone. Installed some Fender Custom Shops PuPs. I LOVE this bass. [b]Fender MIM 5 String Jazz [/b]2008 - present day - its ok. Not as well built as the Hamer but reliable. [b]Lakland 55-01 2008[/b] - present day - great sounding bass (if you like active PuPs). Nice balance and feel. Versatile.
