1. Were Ricks from that time dodgy as well?? Gibson & Fender 70's QC is well known to be bad.
2. I bought a Minotaur one going cheap on their stand at Music Live in 2002 & it's still going very strong. Mine is a plain brown one & now costs €35 according to http://minotaur.gr/catalog/index.php?cPath=28
3. ..........an old trick was to get a pack of Rizla cig papers & fold one over into a strip of whatever thickness it took to hold it into place.
4. Is the loom supplied wired for stereo as well as mono, in which case there may be a few too many wires? This may be complete bollox, but it's the only difference I could think of.
5.
The bridge looks a little short looking at the photo, perhaps it just the photo.

I think it's just the light, or rather lack of it, in the photo. The raised bit a the rear of the bridge disappears as it's not catching the light.
Thought the same as Geddys Nose & +1 with Musky's thoughts. More detailed pics would be needed to be certain; some fakers did have the twin truss-rods but AFAIK (haven't made a study of it, just seen a lot of threads) there wasn't a faker that had the twin truss-rods AND the break in the binding behind the bridge. I'd be wary entirely because of the price, in good nick you could ask for almost double that price; my only other thought was that the binding looks a bit thinner than a Rick's should be, but again that could be the light.
6.
It continues. I have just realised when i received the bass in its box, (factory EBMM box with barcodes etc) it DIDN'T say w/matching headstock. I was thinking 'I hope they actually DID it'....never did I think it would now lead to this mystery. So, the description says w/o matching headstock on the box (in TWO places). The serial number is on the box TWICE, and obviously stamped into the neck plate on the box. The box also says, in TWO places, that the bass was finished/packed/sent from the USA on 08/05/10. So why do I have a bass that HAS a matching headstock, that took SEVEN months to arrive, that was built and sent on 08/05/10. That, to me, means they added a neck from another bass to this bass, and THAT'S why the neck pocket is so poor, and there are marks near the neck pocket. I've also noticed lots of what appears to be sawdust on the other side of the neck pocket, trapped between the neck and the body.
I think you've nailed it there, can't think of another scenario that's more likely anyway. Is the box marked up as "white"?? I'm just thinking that the delay could have been caused by a respray, and taking back the old finish - IF that was the case - could explain the pocket gap.
7. If you like drooling over her you'd love the pics in her album notes, though they're all my fave is one with Union Flag lippy on, which I'm assuming is a P'shop job, but is still the best of the lot.
8. like this; a bit dark but there you go.
9. GuitarGuitar do a Gibson package of renovator, lemon oil for the board & metal polish, along with polishing cloth. I get my old-style Gibson wax spray sent over cos the lemon based pump style they sell here can scorch a finish if you're not careful. But the Gibson set is excellent for all finishes; I use it on all my guitars & they have different surfaces & ages.
10. The Lemmy stack was for sale to anyone who got in there first, they didn't have to be a "name". No freebies (I tried), even Lemmy paid for his as did Slash his. Though I was told that they were making far less cabs than they were sig heads in the Lemmy range. These are some Lemmy cabs being covered in the factory; fantastic to watch, their hands were a blur.
11.
(I like brackets)
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/WALL-MOUNT-GUITAR-BRACKET-HOME-WORK-STUDIO-BAND-GROUP-/260847766412?pt=UK_Guitar_Accessories&hash=item3cbbbd0b8c There you go then ,but you just said yourself you're looking for a bass to put on it.
12.
Generally speaking Japanese and English makers (especially bespoke luthiers) are best at this, and American makers are historically the worst - hopefully they've improved since I last bought an American instrument.
The last time I tried to order some; about 4 years ago, Encore do make left-handed speed knobs, numbered 10-0 rather than 0-10, though Gibson, who they copied them from, don't. (Or at least if they do/did, they won't supply as spares.)
13.
Fender, ......... (extremely) Limited
Fixed it for you.
14.
Another one cheap here, not as crazy cheap: http://www.ebay.co.u...=item19c94a42ed
The damamge to the jack area looks like a bit more than a surface crack? Is that a trade-off with the price?
15. The US Plexi Palace site has a UK amps section with a lot of the more "obscue" amps in it, WEM, Vamp etc. You'll be sure to find an expert there but I think they maybe have a rule about newbie's asking for valuations. Worth a pop though, I sold a Vamp half-stack to a guy in Australia thru that forum.
16. 4x GEC KT88's???????? I saw a set of those go for £600 on Ebay a couple of years ago. I'm guessing with those trannies & bottles it's way under-rated at 150w??? Have you had chance to fire it up yet, or is it going for an overhaul? Very nice looking condition too.
17. First time that I can remember I heard Jimmy Lea playing his John Birch custom EB3 with onboard overdrive thru a massive Hiwatt rig. Blackburn Cavendish Club (RIP) October 1978. I HAD to have one! ffwd to 2:32 if you can't be arsed with a rip-roaring cover of "Somethin Else", this one from Reading 1980. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T13cc1DpF7g
18. We're just back from Steve Cropper's penultimate gig on this tour. Asked him to sign my vinyl copy of his new album, which gave him a buzz seeing a record version of his album. But he signed it left-handed, I asked him about it & it was the old story of not being able to get left-handed guitars way back when, so he just learnt on a rightie, when left-handed guitars came more available he tried one & couldn't do it. He also said .................. Duck Dunne is the same! He also said that he loved coming to England, because we all use knives & forks correctly & he's able to eat more easily here Which he then went on to prove because we all ate dinner together in a nearby hotel
19.
I could live without the carving, all told. That restoration page was a very interesting read - the state of the strap button! Good thread, lads
+1 to all three points! When I first saw it I wondered if the Oak Leaves were a vague German WW2 reference, given Lemmy's intense fascination/expertise on the subject. The oak leaves being some kind of enhanced military award, similar to our "and bar" IIRC, when a second medal of the same type was awarded. Last time I saw the backup bass was in Glasgow a few years ago & he had a lot of trouble with it cutting out. You could see him giving the crew some serious abuse, as he played, to get the main bass fixed.
20. I've just had to wait a couple of minutes for it to open at all from the home page into any forum. Whether that's because there's almost 500 people looking right now, or whether it's too many forums I dunno.
21. Steve Cropper's new album Dedicated, very vintage vibe - being his tribute to his main influences with many guests. You can hear brief snatches of on Amazon, fave so far is the first track "30 Second Lover" with Steve Winwood. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Steve-Cropper/e/B000APWUIK/ref=ntt_art_dp_pel_1 I bought it on vinyl for a tenner, & you get the CD in with it.
22. They come up quite regularly on EbayUSA, either authentic or repro's. I'm after an early 60's one myself, with the round screw tabs rather than the angled straight ones. eg, http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Gibson-Par...=item3a6a417945 you could maybe get it powder coated? JayDee sometimes makes them for some of his basses, but whether he'd sell one singly I dunno.
23. Wasn't so quick with my order, but it was outwith his control, a PC crash lost my address. Then it turned out they didn't have a template for a Hiwatt 4123 cab, so mine became their template. As already said, excellent product - highly recommended.
24.
Still the only bassist I've ever seen using a tremelo arm.
This one? ....... and this is what it sounds like.
25. Been in maybe half a dozen times ever. They've never had anything that I had to have, but the staff were always alright. Last time the bloke was talking for ages with a previous customer, but I didn't mind, gave me a chance for a decent drool & if I had wanted anyhting I'd hope to get the same attantion. They couldn't help with an insurance quote though, even though their advert said they would.
