No wishy washing hand wringing, just "this is how it is... it's my website, I make the rules" Spine-tingling.
Yup - I think a common mistake being made here is attaching gravity to the guys who own the place. They're not the Dalai Lama, Ghandi & Steven Hawking. They're three (??) ordinary blokes who've set up a site which may or may not be moving into a commercial venture. They're every bit as liable if not more so to be wrong but lack the nads to admit it in public, have bad moods or pressures that they take out on the nearest weak link, take an irrational dislike to a person or dictate their terms on the "it's my ball" basis. It's their party, cry if you want to, apparently there's a fair amount of outstanding (that's to say overdue - not literary classics) PMs in the pipeline from certain absentees, which may or may not - ever - clarify the situation to the masses.

I don't get wired about it, I just instantly become silently judgmental on the person using whatever the phrase is. Anyone who uses "at the end of the day" is declaring their density to the world. Just sayin' .................. Damn, damn!!
Right, I've spent ages reading through this whole thread. Forgive me if I've missed something obvious, but how did everyone know he was American?

I think it was obvious from both his lack of understanding of common idiomatic British English, and his slightly smarmy passive-aggressive argumentary style. The latter is very recognisable if you frequent [s]TalkBass[/s] - erm, US-based forums. J.
I just assumed from the way he couldn't spell "vigour".
If we have any doubt about a warning being issued we discuss it as a team, if there is no doubt then the warning is issued and THEN we discuss it as a team. In some cases this is so cut and dry the conversations are very short. In other cases it can be very long and drawn out. It's a case by case basis I hope that clears things up
I've just found some footage of one such meeting.............
In fact I think I'm still banned from some sections of the forum. I did remind someone about that sometime back, but was met with a reply akin to the chastisement a naughty child. Not really my bag. Don't really post much anymore.........
You too huh? I mostly now only post if I have past experience of an issue that I can help with, other than that I have the PMs from three of them (edit: Admins) that all slag each other off to various extents, and slag a member who they had a low opinion of but did nothing about. To be fair to Ian he did his level best to resolve things but to no avail. I bookmarked the admin in question's band site so that if the chance arises he'll have the chance to say what he said to my face.
I’m about to order a few wall-hangers for tidying up my basses at home. The product I’ll be using is the Hercules GSP38WB. I’m not a DIY enthusiast… I’m a bungling amateur. So I just wanted to check my proposed method for fitting these hangers with those of you who are more savvy in this department. Basically, the wall in question is a standard plasterboard surface with brick behind. The brick wall is in fact a previous outer wall of the property (the room is an extension) and the bricks are super tough.
You need a door fixing, length of it depending on how wide the gap is between the bricks (Nori's??) and the plasterboard? They're like a 4-6 inch long rawl-plug. You only need one for each hook, since the lower one is only keeping it straight, the top one is carrying the main load. The screws are big though so you may need to drill out the hole on the hook's base. TBH the hook is only going to be as strong as that wooden base it's on and how well the hook is fitted to that. I used this method to put a shelf up for a g/f's microwave once. When it was up she asked if I was sure it was strong enough .......... so I picked her up and sat her on the shelf. edit: IF the bricks are "Nori"s you'll need a damn good power-drill. I tried using a newly bought bottom of the range B&D on one once, after a half inch hole was drilled in about 10 minutes boiling hot grease bubbled from the gear box.
I like X, he's an intelligent geezer. But he's in danger of becoming a parody of himself if he carries on like this. He needs a change of pace.
Where X = George Michael, Lemmy, John Lydon, or any other long term muso.

Strangely enough the Theme to Robinson Crusoe the 60s dubbed series that seemed to be on every school summer holiday; off an album called "Cult Files". The whole track is 8+ mins. Nostalgia attack!

Sonisphere cancelled : UK festivals and the future
Big_Stu replied to The Admiral's topic in General Discussion
Interestingly, I had a CD turn up today : UFO reissue of 'No place to run' and the excellent booklet contains a copy of their headlining gig at the Reading Festival in 1980.
Yeah, but even back then Ozzy cancelled with just a couple of days notice. -
The Thin Lizzy thread reminded me of this - and it needs to be in context of the set; while I'm no great Lizzy fan I don't think there's a better crowd-pleasing closer than this.... & you could of course - where possible - switch the place names in the lyrics to the venue or town being played.
Pretty sure I have that single on vinyl somewhere, I must did it out, not that I have a record player to play it on
The edited single version was their second biggest hit, the full length I don't know what happened with it, or whether it has any rarity value.

I bought the OST to a film called "Uptight" not very long ago. It was the only recording I could find that had the original unedited version of "Time Is Tight" on, which was how Booker T originally wrote it. The track has a melancholic intro and play out on it The album also has a keys only version of it, which IIRC has Cropper on piano to Booker's Hammond (Tank's Lament). The story of the film is one story among the fallout from the assassination of MLK, riots, further murders, accusations flying etc. The band were actually using a hotel room to record in, in the same hotel, at the time of the shooting.
I've bought a lot from guitarguitar and soundcontrol. Red Dog Music in Edinburgh are a good bunch and I try to support them as much as possible. However, the range of basses for sale in shops all over Edinburgh is fairly limited.......
It's part of Fender - and possibly Gibson's pattern. They demand that the shop devotes a certain % of space, cost & items to Fender alone - it's costs thousands to do so. To pay those thousands you have to be big enough to do so first & foremost and cut other brands out in many cases, or ditch Fender and sell close copies. Fender have realised it's bit them on the ar*e which is why you can now buy direct by MO.

John Birch spent many years just doing repairs, building pickups (awesome pickups btw) & customising Gibsons, until Tony Iommi asked him to build his first 24 fret SG. He liked it so much he financed JB into setting up as a builder (parallels with the OP there!). To do so JB recruited 3 or 4 guys to work with, one of whom was JayDee. JB was a very volatile employer/colleague by many accounts & his door should have been a revolving one - but he did need a crew around him, he couldn't do it all on his own. IMHO it's no coincidence that when JayDee went solo JB's product profile nose-dived. John Birch were at theri peak in the mid/late 70's, less than 10 years after Iommi financed the set up. JayDee's first guitar under his own flag was Iommi's "Old Boy" SG which looks that way because it was a rush-job which got fried in the heat of (IIRC) a Brazilian tour. Best looking custom guitar I ever saw was built by Joe Wolf, who was guitar-tech at Sound Control, Edinburgh in the 90s. He left to live on a Scottish island, but he built the most gorgeous quilted top, stained all black, Strat I ever saw. His place was taken by Rod Vaughan, a mostly acoustic luthier who was apprenticed at John Birch when JayDee was there. Long story short for the OP, don't expect to make a living doing solely building, few do. In the meantime consider offering your services to as many local guitar shops as will take you & work up from there.
I'd just add that the hole in the head of a bass drum is not just cut in a circle. It's a port, and its position and diameter affect the sound just a s much as the port on a bass cab. It can't be improvised on stage with a cutter. The 'taking off the head' approach, too, is so radical as to be excluded except, maybe, for a '60s tribute band, imitating the 'concert tom' groups of that era.
Both of these thoughts occurred to me too, all that's missing in the second one is the grimey striped old pillow sat inside the open fronted drum. Course you could always take a Stanley knife to the skin like this guy maybe did - or given who it is he may have just kicked a hole in it by accident.
For every gig you should use a virgin cable gently stored in the freezer for at least 28 days. On the night of the performance, the cable should be unwrapped very slowly using
We tried that but it made the chords sound cold and stiff. We tried to pretend it was deliberate but no-one was having it; when you've got a cold core chord cord called cryogenic crap it just doesn't wash.
anyways ... why not use a band name thats already out there
In the early 80's a mate of mine had a band who ended up in court arguing over whether they or another "owned" their band name. My mate's band lost. He wasn't too concerned though, everyone knew him as Wammy, so he just took the "Y" off for the new band name; didn't take all that long before he got a tap on his shoulder again, from two young chaps who had it first - or close enough to count...
No problem. Just paste the URL of the Youtube page into your post but you need to edit out the 's' in the https:// part.
