I'd love to go for it but living up in Birmingham means I'm a bit far away from you so making it down for rehearsals would be bloody difficult Best of luck though, sounds like a great gig.

I can't imagine owning one that'd cover everything I wanted to do, but my Fender 50s P and my Squier Vintage Modified Jazz cover most of it. Not that I'd ever part with either, I love them both.

Pain in the backside when you want to learn something in a hurry and you're used to reading tabs - had a right game trying to find one for Bowie's 'Life on Mars' a year or so ago. Emphasises the usefulness of being able to listen and figure a song out though - and Feeder basslines are probably a good place to start

But I just can't get on with those vocals. I can appreciate the bass. Can't say I listen to either genre much though, unless it's to learn a specific bassline.

Quite a few of G n R's covers seem to get confused as originals. According to the Stephen Davies biography, even Macca's kids came away from a Guns gig and refused to believe him when he said he wrote 'Live and Let Die'

Along with a lot of the other comments, slowing it down works for me. There were a couple of pieces back in the day (well, three years ago) I still couldn't get the hang of, in which case I changed the bassline about a bit to something I could play that would work, then reverted to the original afterwards when I'd got to grips with it (I'd only been playing a few months, fingerstyle, and was asked to play Pantera's 'Domination' - managed it eventually, but would definately use a pick for it these days now I'm used to them )

I thought I had, but every time I cross one off I find another bassist to idolize Seen Burnel, Steve Harris and Jeff Ament, who're probably among the biggest influences...now I want to see Mike Dirnt, Paul Simonon and Duff McKagan to name a few. No wonder my wallet's always empty

If either of my old bands had demanded payment every time, I'd have played less than ten gigs (that's mostly including nights where we got given free beer, as opposed to actual payment). Too many variables to say all musos should/shouldn't do freebies - my last band played punk music, originals and covers, which although popular with some audiences won't get many people along to the pub compared to a band who covers pop standards - sad but true. Most of the bands rond here play metal, a lot of metal fans look down on punk for being crude and generally easier to play than their preferred genre, so we didn't often go down well on bills that placed us with metal groups - which we went for because of lack of gigging opportunities otherwise. Should we have gotten paid for those gigs when we didn't bring or entertain as many people as the metal bands, even though most of their punters were friends of the band and we were a couple of antisocial *******s who played a genre that's unpopular around here? Answer: We should have, cos IMO we were brilliant But that wouldn't have helped the manager out much, and that's where it counts. Those free gigs may not have been particularly advantageous to us financially, but we had a laugh doing them, got tighter through them, and through them managed to get a few more people along to the gigs that did pay.

Interesting - hopefully it'll sound different to Maiden, much as I love them it'd be nice to hear him play something other than triplets

Some dodgy Stranglers covers...still unsure if I like Onslaught's version of Nice n Sleazy or not

Can't say I enjoy his slap work too much, a point which became especially sore when I first picked up the bass and had mates and family members trying to get me to learn those segments Otherwise though, great player, and the slap bits do show great ability - just not my thing at all.
