1. Don't suppose you know what the spacing is on a real one?
2. So. Allparts do Rick bass scratchplates, and I have a Hondo II 'Faker that needs a new 'plate. Apart from potentially filling and re-drilling of holes, which I'll have to do anyway, is there any reason that using a Rick 'plate won't work? I don't imagine the dimensions are that different, but obviously have no basis for comparison.
3. If you're doing classic rock covers why would you need to improvise? Genuinely confused.
4. Email Ashdown?
5.
I hope you don't think I'm some wanna be pro . Music is my hobby.
Nah, you're alright Marv... it was another dude who was insisting hobby players should be avoided! Wannabe pros are a right pain in the arse... "you've got to have commitment to practice every night for 6 hours and the best gear money can buy or I won't play with you!"
6. Drummer and I are 'hobby' players and we're both very reliable so I wish to challenge the assertation that hobby players should be avoided. One guitarist turned pulled a sicky on the first practice we were going to do with him. Turned up to the second and seemed pretty keen. And then just stopped answering emails.
7. Bump. Still available. Just taking up space and need rid of it before I start being tempted to mod it with expensive parts.
8. Pretty much bog standard open gear machine heads. Got them with a project bass but the bass has chrome hardware so gold machine heads don't really match. £15 plus whatever the postage ends up being.
9. I put a brass nut on my EB-3 copy. It's definitely true what they say about it improving sustain, even with the crappy floating bridge it keeps going for ages.
10.
I know, from conversations I've had with him, that he's a genuine music fan.
This makes no sense, anyone who appreciates music is a 'genuine music fan' and not all (or even most) 'genuine music fans' would necessarily like those songs, especially if hearing them over and over again with varying degrees of competance. Also, am I the only person who finds people who aren't teenagers even if you squint and the light's bad singing songs like Teenage Kicks a little creepy?
11. Seconding the recommendation of OM. Al Cisneros is awesome. Also putting Megachurch up for consideration. Two basses and drums. Plus samples of evangelist rants in place of vocals.
12. Dude looks like a prize wally anyway.
13. By remarkable coincidence I've just got a permanent job. Clearly it's fate.
14. Righto, I've just bought a Flying-V shaped bass body and need a neck to go with it. Naturally all the off-the-shelf aftermarket parts are Fender-style which is just not what I'm looking for here. Is there anywhere in the UK (or even EU) that would be able to build me a suitable neck without crippling me financially? If all else fails I'll order from Warmoth but I'd prefer to not be slapped with a load of extra VAT and 'admin fees'.
15.
What you want is a scatterwound pickup such as the kent armstrongs or bareknuckle(do they do bass pups?). By far the best method is to take them apart and rewind the coil yourself using a hand drill.
I'd say that someone who was 'blown away' by the pickups already has what they want...
16.
If the band have walked on stage wearing the same clothes that my dad wears doing the gardening then I'm likely to think they can't be bothered to make an effort.
I'd say they'd made quite a bit of an effort, what with stealing your dad's gardening clothes and all.
17. Don't forget the ass-tight jeans!
18. http://www.axesrus.com http://www.axetec.co.uk I use both regularly.
19.
Do you feel the audience should be subjected to hearing damaging dB levels in order to receive an 'authentic' tribute experience?
Calculated risk, innit? People don't go to a rock gig and expect a quiet, sedate evening, do they? Moving away from the tribute thing, you can't reasonably expect a high-energy punk band, or crushing doom outfit, or most other 'rock' bands for that matter to keep the noise down and still sound they way they should or give the best performance they can. If the punters go in expecting less than, say, 80dB then more fool them...
i think that's a bit unfair. it assumes that everyone has a free choice as to where they live (which they don't) and also if a pub decides it wants to put on live music when they haven't before it leaves the local residents with a source of noise they may not have bargained for.
In those circumstances then yes, the residents do have reasonable grounds to complain. But you do often get people choosing to move in next to a live music pub and then getting shirty because it gets a bit loud on Friday nights... never underestimate the stupidity of humans, or overestimate their ability to think ahead.
