1.
no idea what link you just gave us?
Well, first clue is gained by clicking on it. Second is considering the context in which I gave the link. I liked from the text "moderator myself" as that is the site on which I am a moderator, partly as a shameless plug but mostly because I'm demonstrating that I know what the hell I'm talking about. A good moderator communicates when they remove something or block someone, regardless of the content of the posting. In fact, I don't care about the content of mercuryl's post... the point is that there was no communication from the moderator who did it, thus poor moderation practices. Good moderation practice means an email or PM is sent, explaining exactly what rule was broken, and providing an immediate point of contact for any appeals, objections or even just saying "okay, it's a fair cop" (which does happen). Yes, the best method of dealing with a moderation issue is to directly contact the moderators, but when those moderators can't be arsed to make the contact in the first place, which is entirely their responsibility as a person who has been moderated should never have to ask why, I think the moderatee is perfectly entitled to have a public moan about it.
2.
We originally wanted to play She Bangs The Drums - The Stone Roses Rain - The Beatles My Generation - The Who Purple Haze - Jimi Hendrix Go Let It Out - Oasis I Fought the Law - The Clash's version, and House of the Rising Sun But because of our chordless wonder we ended up doing Paranoid - Black Sabbath Dreaming of You - The Coral Breaking the Law - Judas Priest For Whom the Bell Tolls - Metallica Teenage Kicks - The Undertones Dream - The Everly Brothers Blitzkreig Bop - The Ramones
Second list > first list.
3. Had it been done transparently with clear and concise communication I'd agree with the 'not venting frustration' thing. But as a moderator myself I think people are well within their rights to publically rant when a disproportionately heavy-handed decision is made with no explanation given.

6. Iron Gear pickups are both brilliant and cheap.
7. Maximum volume yields maximum results...
8. For me the worst ones are where the person is selling something they allegedly own and use but just stick up the first picture they got off Google.
9. Yeah, a little. Aboslutely no idea about things like internal communication, or having decent/appropriate gear for teaching. Good for theory and technique though.
10. Argh! My eyes!

Oi! Keep your bass stuff out of here, there's a place for that kind of thing.
12. There's the Guitar School on Vic Hill. They're good but also expensive and disorganised.
13. Ooh yeah, I forgot about that!
14. In your faces grumpy naysayers!

16. "You can't polish a turd" = "It's too much effort lol first world problems" Just saying. Rebuilt two crappy guitars and got told the same thing both times. Ended up with two pretty damn awesome guitars (for a given value of awesome, one does still need a new neck ideally). It's simply a matter of bothering to put a bit of effort in. And because I know some wag will say it: yes, it is his responsibility to do the actual improvement, but why should everyone else sit back and watch when they could be encouraging and helping him? Turns out people respond very well to help and positive reinforcement.

18. That's great, thanks. All this should give me a nice project to work on during my impending unemployment.
19. Ta. I'm now imagining people in a studio all glaring at each other while playing their instruments absolutely perfectly because they all know if they make one mistake it'll turn into a fist fight.
20. Oh noes. I've been fisked. That's me told then. Seriously though Rhys, you'd actually prefer being in a band of virtuoso players who were complete c**ts?
21. Started taking lessons a few months ago* and I'm finding the theory stuff very useful. Learning how it ties in with particular types of music is good too. One thing I've been told is not to get yourself bogged down in knowing exactly which notes you're playing at all times, the important thing is knowing where the thirds and what not are in relation to the root. Knowing exactly what notes those are is just a bonus. *Now not taking lessons due to impending joblessness.
22. Now, I can't remember the details but I did read somewhere (possibly New Scientist) that occasionally the brain, especially when confronted with stuff like "random chord sheets", will kick in 'learning' mode when it's supposed to be using information it already possesses. This leads to "mind gone blank" situations because you *know* what you're supposed to be doing but the brain is firing all the wrong neurons to make any real use of it.
23.
So he's a "lovely chap" - what do you want, a decent drummer or a friend? You're not doing him or yourself any favours by letting him carry on - Kick him out & find somebody that can play properly.
I imagine that would result in him being neither. Seriously, I'd much rather be in a band with people I got on with than people who were the brilliantest at what they do. Fact is, some people just don't have good natural timing. I know I don't. Not being able to do one thing does not entirely invalidate his proficiency as a drummer; you wouldn't call BB King a crap guitarist because he can't do rhythm. I'm with the try to help him with his timing brigade.
