I had a real one for a few years. It's got a switchable graphic EQ (so pseudo two channel) as well as the regular Ampeg controls, compressor and bi amping capability. In real life it got huge headroom and a cleaner sound than the SVT. I'd rather they'd gone for something else as that'll be the third Ampeg amp as well as the Scrambler (and Sansamp if you consider that does a SVT type sound). You'd have thought Line6 have got some sort of tie-up with Ampeg...:😉

For us, SVT4 Pro in amps and Sansamp V1 and Ampeg Scrambler in effects, plus some under the hood improvements I think.

I'll look out the group! I have two, both American active 5 string HH, one's an Elite model and the other's a Deluxe, but there's virtually no difference between them other than the headstock writing (silver vs black) and the Elite case. A lot of Fender's newer attempts just don't seem to last - we like our passive Precisions and our Jazz basses - Coronado, Starcaster anyone? I do love them and I'd maybe buy other if the right one came along. The necks are fantastic as they're asymmetric, waxed, with compound radius. The active circuit is 18v and quite responsive and it's really well balanced for a 5 string. With the HH version there are five different pickup positions and it does actually do a good Stingray an a Jazz tone. Even the neck pickup can do a passable Precision with a bit of EQing. I gig these in preference to my Musicman Sterling 5 HH.

I've asked them for some more photos. Let's see..

I guess the the thread title might determine the sorts replies that are given. Maybe if there was a "Precision Pickups that suck" thread......

I've tried the Custom Shop 62s and been rather disappointed with them. Perfectly good pickup and better than the Seymour Duncan quarter pounders but they didn't do it for me. What did do it for me was a set of Wizard Thumpers. Sadly they're not made any more in their original form but Hot Rod have taken over making them, although I don't know how close they come to the originals. https://www.hot-rodpickups.com/pb-thumper-precision-bass-pickup-574-p.asp

Not sure if this is the most appropriate forum but I was rather surprised to see a bass such as this listed at a Cash Converters. I immediately wondered if anyone knew of such a guitar that had maybe gone 'missing'..... If I was nearer Bristol I'd love to go and look at it! https://www.cashconverters.co.uk/shop/product/fender-1954-precision-bass-butterscotch-blond-superb-all-original-example/207662?list=Search results

Yes, absolutely right and I want the best fit possible so I've no problems with how it's worked out! I took your test tracks and a couple of mine and A/Bd the UE5 and UE6 against my current iems (a massive difference) and opted for the 6s by small amount, reinforced by the recommendations of yourself, Tom and Nick. Back down to see Paul on the 8th.
-
I went to see Paul last week for some impressions. Unfortunately he couldn't do them as I had a build up of ear wax that would have prevented a good impression being made and he was focused on ensuring he could get the best possible mould. It ended up as an aborted initial visit, a reschedule and a trip to an ear clinic. I'm not complaining at all as i would much rather it happen that way around but worth noting for anyone getting impressions made.

Visited the Abba museum today in Stockholm and they have some isolated bass lines from Mike Watson that you can listen to. There's some fantastic intricacy in them.

Different to field hockey, everyone has to use a right handed stick.

There's a lovely black/white Deluxe V HH on ebay at the moment but they seem to hold their price at around the £1k mark or so....
-
Thanks for that! I'm looking to get a 3ply black white black as my Deluxe is natural and comes with a white one. The four stringers come with a black one and I think it looks better. I did contact Fender GB and they said I'd be better getting one made as they didn't have stock and they'd be surprised if anywhere else did either. I'd keep 'em both if you can - doesn't seem nuts to me! I've got a Deluxe V HH and a Elite V HH (which are actually pretty much the same) and I wouldn't get rid of either.
-
How did you get on? I want to order one for my Deluxe V HH.......

In the bass essentials pack there is one cab model. I navigate to Bass Essentials>Cabinet IR>BE810>48 In this folder there are 20 variations in WAV format of this cab. Now you have a choice of which one to use. You can load all 20 in to your IR list in HX Edit if you like then transfer these to your Stomp and audition them from there. The Bass Essentials Presets include an IR block. This will always default to using the first sample in your loaded list of IRs, but if you have loaded all 20, then you can select which one you prefer and then save it back to the preset. The preset will always then use that one instead. I'll admit I don't really like those presets though. The ones developed by Jon Wills on the Helix bass users Facebook page are a much better starting point, well for the amp blocks anyway. I'd leave the IR level at -18db and adjust in small steps only if you need to .

Not sure I get what you mean Did you buy a 3 sigma preset pack (they're called bass essentials, metal mayhem, vintage bass, bone crushing bass) https://www.3sigmaaudio.com/items/category/helix-bass/ or did you buy a IR on it's own? https://www.3sigmaaudio.com/items/category/basscabs/ If you bought the preset pack then there is one cab IR included in the pack (but multiple variations of it) . If you bought bass essentials for example the cab IR is called BE810. the preset is designed to use only this IR. If you want to use a different IR, you need to load that IR in via the HX Edit application and open the preset, select the new IR and then save the preset with the new one. And yes, for the 3sigma IRs, they're all set at -18db as default.

Interesting you say this. I had a set of wizard thumpers that were wired differently from what I expected for a Precison pup. After a quick chat to the hot rod guys I rewired them and they worked perfectly. It wasn't a uniform swap black for white, it was more one side was different to the other.

That's a very niche FB feed you have there. Are there groups for ear impressions?
-
Not yet, March or April apparently. I think it is an effect rather than a amp block. The Ampeg scrambler will be there too steve

Elme Hall, bloody difficult sound in that place! Is this band still going?

This thread's gone unusually quiet! Anyway, reading all this has finally convinced me to swap out my current IEMs for some custom moulds and I have booked an appointment next month. I booked a demo slot too with the Custom IEM Company and they've asked me to bring along some test tracks and preferred source. Does this mean I should bring my wireless system, preamp? What kind of test tracks should I sort out? Any advice gratefully received! Steve

Spot on. If Fender hadn't named it as such and if I hadn't raised it initially, we'd probably be debating the qualities of the pedal itself! I wouldn't complain if it was Rumble based including the overdrive circuit. I think it looks nice too.

A stuffed owl, left behind at The Barton Arms in Birmingham. The landlady kept it on the bar and I collected it the next day as I was lucky enough to be back in the city for a meeting. She bollocked me for scaring the cleaner....
