1. No prices?
2.
I don t understand if you sell it or not
No he is not selling it. Basses that are for sale are here http://basschat.co.uk/forum/19-basses-for-sale/
3.
The neck is lovely and worn in and the profile is perfect.
For me this is the bit that nailed it. You can get a regular Precision and fit it with Quarter Pounders and a high mass bridge, or relic it a bit, but the neck profile on this is different. Fender should offer this slim C neck on other basses.
4.
Enjoy that bass... it's currently my number one object of lust (basswise). Never knew they had a d-tuner... another plus.
They don't come with one as standard, I think the OP has fitted this afterwards. I've got one of these Nate Mendels (and a Chris Shiflett Tele Deluxe and a Flea Jazz ) and it's a cracking bit of kit. I echo Musicman20 - I think many of thse sig basses are excellent..
5.
I think there's still a Phil Jones double four on the for sale board here. Superb for what you need, great sound through headphones or speakers. Won't keep up with a band at all but if that isn't a possibility I'd start there.
This is a very good option for a practice and something you're likely to hang on to when you buy something bigger. Don't rule out the TC though, especially if you'd rather go new. Load up a tube overdrive and/or a compressor toneprint and set and forget.
6. Another vote for the 2i2 and somethng like Reaper maybe? The Focusrite preamps sounds really good.
7. Had mine since June 15 and I made up my own cable with a female 1/4"socket to male 1/4" jack (there's a picture I think earlier in this thread) rather than use the adaptor. I just loop it through my belt at the back where I previously clipped a wireless transmitter. Worked for me for a year and a half!
8. I'm more concerned about the quality aspect and resale value of post-wall built Mexican Fenders. The might change the logos too....
9.
All in my opinion, and I appreciate that the problems with mine (poor paint job, poor quality printing on the vinyl, flickering screen, loose pots) may have been a one off, and I did pass these comments on to Thomann to see if I get any feedback. I so wanted to like it
The pots on mine are ok, but I agree with the lack of notches on the parameter knob. I'm not overly keen on having to press one of the knobs to change bank as I can see this failing.. The artwork is still just a blurry printed label and I think that if it didn't replicate the DI so well in the sound department I would think I had been duped. That said, I can't actually find a use for it so it's sat in it's box. I take it out every now and then to compete with the wailing of our cats then put it back. You would have thought that having owned three original Deep Impacts and sold them all on I would have learned my lesson. I just know that if I sell this I'll end up buying another even though I will never have a need to replicate the fella from Muse who I'm sure is mainly to blame for the astronomic prices of the original.
10. Love these strings. I tend to order them from the States in bulk from eBay. three times in four I get away without paying any duty.
11. So, two years ago today I started the following thread after Ashdown announced the B Social desktop amplifier at NAMM. http://basschat.co.uk/topic/254136-ashdown-b-social-really/ It ran to ten pages and involved a lot of comments around price, functionality and quality, a lot of it not terribly pleasant, with which our friends at Ashdown seemed (understandably) not too happy. Since then I’ve felt a bit guilty that the thread has potentially had a negative impact on the success of the amp knowing the influence of Basschat and indeed where the thread features in a simple Google search. Since then I have played one briefly in a shop and was interested but still couldn’t justify spending the money. I always intended to get hold of one when the opportunity came along at the right price and two years later this has happened. I’ve now got one and I’ve posted a review in the Review section here as that’s the most appropriate place. In summary, it really is an excellent piece of kit and I just wanted to put it on the record given it's previous slating. OK, the price thing still remains but if you can get round that (in whatever way) then it is very impressive.
12. So I managed to get my hands on one of these small desktop amplifiers. This is the original version although they have now introduced a B Social Lite, which is a smaller, one speaker version. The build quality is great- it feels very solid and the external components don’t feel cheap and plasticky. It’s bigger than I remember and also heavier. The sound quality through either the active or passive input is excellent and setting the optimum level is easy with separate level controls for the two instrument inputs. It’s then also very easy to balance this with the separate eq section that controls the stereo input. It’s not going to go ear bleedingly loud, but then that’s not the point. It accepts a Bluetooth stereo feed in (from a phone or similar) as well as accepting a regular 3.5mm cable input. The sound quality from Bluetooth streaming is also very good and will connect automatically after the initial device pairing. The Apptek functionality works fine, using a four pole 3.5mm lead in to the headphone out of my iPad. As your bass is plugged in to the B Social not the iPad there is some latency but it’s not huge. You don’t need to use Ampkit though; Amplitube, Bias/JamUp and other iOS apps work just as well. To be honest I’m not using these as the sound quality from the amp itself is excellent. Oh and there’s as stereo line out too in case you needed it. The unit also allows you to connect a bass (or guitar – guitars sound good through this too) wirelessly, using a dongle with a ¼” plug on the end. The dongle is rechargeable via micro-USB. It’s bloody ugly mind, especially if you compare it to the design of other transmitters such as the SmoothHound wireless system. Sound quality is not as good as with a lead, but it works fine and in tandem with Bluetooth streaming provides convenient wire free playing. Also impressive is the quality of the recording in to my laptop via USB. Noise levels are very low, latency is virtually zero and no specific software is needed. If you want to monitor via headphones, a switch on the back disconnects the speakers. Any niggles? Some minor. The speaker cones are not covered – the new B Social Lite has grilles so maybe these can be retrofitted. I’d like a tuner and also maybe an accessible mute switch. And the manual could cover more around connectivity, Apptek setup and recording. This really is a great desktop solution with loads of features, some I will use more than others. It’s portable, looks good and delivers excellent sound quality. The only issue remains around price. I’d really struggle to justify spending £600 on this, even though I can understand now why Ashdown pitched it at this price point.
13. 45-105 sunbeams
14.
I've took delivery of the Boss Katana 100 and it is SUPERB. The best value amp product I've ever experienced.
That's very interesting. Boss seem to be going down the effects modelling route (as you would expect I guess) rather than copying Vox's amp modelling focus.
15.
Obligatory mention for Fender Rumble.
Good point, though not many Rumble mentions of late - has it fallen out of favour...?
16.
The old saying "you learn something new every day" springs to mind! I have to ask though, is the effect any different to actually turning the tweeter level knob on the back of the cab?
Yes and no. It's designed to replicate the tweeter control that many cabs have, but doesn't actually control the cab itself, rather it reproduces the effect of turning the control with TCs own interpretation. It works best if you turn your cab tweeter control up, then use tweetertone on the head to adjust. If your cab has no tweeter or if you have turned the tweeter control on the cab down or off then the tweetertone is of limited value.
17. I cut my nails short to avoid catching the strings with them and alternate between the D'Addario XLs and DR Sunbeams. I find the D'Addario's a bit too bright in comparison so I go down the Sunbeams route whenever I can afford it.
18.
Can you illuminate how the tweetertone only works with TC cabs ? :-)
I was going to ask the same thing! Works fine with my headphones........
19. Dave sold me a small Ashdown amp in excellent condition and it was delivered very promptly. Great service. Steve
20. Pedal looks great, although the 'showtime' switch kicks in a 'smiley face' EQ apparently? I'd be interested to see how that sounds in a mix. Nice to see a DI out on it. 18v power though. Could be a serious Sansamp competitor? I wonder also what the pricing on the B Social Lite will be? Good to see they've put a grill over that 5" speaker this time!
21. [sup]Are these the same as the ones that initially came in a movie film canister type tin with a VU meter picture on top? The strings were awful, but the tin was nice - still got it![/sup]
22. I turn the tweeter off in the cab AND have bypassed it completely (not disconnected it, but bypassed it) in the combo.
23. Charity pay to play?
24. thanks - I'll try to borrow one - I'm using a Sennheiser MD421 that I like a lot with this combo.
25. I like mine and it's very useful. Headphone noise is unacceptable with the supplied power supply though and neither Tech21 or the importer could give a toss about helping me sort it, both referring me to the other. A regulated power supply sorts the problem. Comp is surprisingly good, boost is good, tuner is excellent, chorus is useable unless you rely on a very coloured chorus for your signature sound, Sansamp section is brilliant (naturally). Still can't get to grips with the octave/fuzz section. Best bit is the size and build quality.
