I'm with MuseMatt in using the pick for this song. When I play this song I use a combination of wrist and finger movement as it give me the best amount of control. I try to anchor my forearm in one position and use my thumb and forefinger to move the pick with some slight wrist movement, though everyone is different. Keep at it, it took me a while to learn the control required.

Standard are Mexican made - you can get them new here for not much more than £350 and then you'd have import duties to pay if you're unlucky. Now, if you found American Series basses at that price it might be a different matter.
I would go: Tuner - Korg Pitchblack. Small and sexy, true bypass and it has a nice strobe function.
You are the man! Thanks for that - exactly what I'm after!

I did it once by using the onboard kit sounds and recording the stereo signal. The kit sound was OK in itself but you can't balance out the various parts of the kit so you need to make sure the levels are spot on before you record. If I did it again I'd record via MIDI definitely.
Yes, we basically did the backing music for a girl who came to write some songs with us at the studio. Each track on the iPod had drums + keys and a smallish intro so we took our cues from that. It was as simple as pressing play and playing along. I understand your situation is a bit more complex though. My friend does the same thing as you mention (drummer has click, effects etc come through pa 'on cue' so I will ask him about it and get back to you. Cheers ped
Nice one, thanks. I guess it's a drummers experience I need to tap in to..
If you want to avoid that, you might want to look at a Rush-style solution: no overall click track, triggering sampled parts on the fly. Do you have access to a sampler of any sort?
no I don't think so. Got a laptop with some stuff on it (including Reason and stuff) but without a click I'd have no idea about how to get everything in time!

Just remembered I drew this a while ago. Might help some people when measuring their guitars to see if it will fit. The measurements are correct for a BadAssIII only.
I have done a couple of gigs where a laptop or even an iPod were used. Always worked fine actually.
Ped, how did you actually run it, live, can you remember?

Ah, I was planning on using mp3, is this not a good idea? What should I use instead?

In my band we are planning to run some recorded keys and or brass but are unsure of how exactly to do it or indeed whether we could get it right. Having no previous experience here's what I'm planning. Record the backing track at the correct tempo in mono and place on one channel of a stereo signal. Record a click at the correct tempo and put on the other channel. Somehow send one channel to the PA and the other channel to the drummer, then get the drummer to start it off. So my challenge is - what do I need for playback? A computer or a MP3 player maybe or what and does anyone have any tips for getting it right? I have visions of it all going horribly wrong and us all blaming the drummer.....

Cleaning exposed poles on Fender Jazz Pickup
Muppet replied to guyl's topic in Repairs and Technical
I use a piece of fine wet and dry paper. A great tip for preventing this happening again is to dab the pole pieces with a drop of clear nail varnish. It has no detrimental effect on the pickups and stops them rusting -
I quite like the EBS chorus but would say the deep modded Analogman chorus is the benchmark...
I blind A/B'd the two using a looper and couldn't tell the difference for the type of chorus sounds I was after, so I kept the EBS and sold the Analogman. They differed at the extremes of settings quite a lot, but the middle range was so similar that I decided to go with the smaller pedal.

Twice I've played at the Cavern and both times they have very strict rules and stick to them. I've seen the soundman cut band's soundchecks out because their guitarist isn't there or the drummer only starts taking his cymbals out of the bags at start of soundcheck time. If you've a weak sound man then he'll let bands walk all over him and the band at the bottom of the pile will normally end up with all the crap.
well as i also pointed out, he should see someone who's qualified! at least the tests i gave him to check out are self-administered........so don't tell me how do my job (i've been doing it for 14 years)!! edit. the sub-heading on the topic is 'HELP', so that's what we try to do, in anyway that's possible.
Not telling you how to do your job, as I appreciate it is highly skilled and I would have no idea, but telling a chap it sounds like carpal tunnel syndrome from a one line statement and then suggesting he checks online can only make him worry more. The symptoms could relate to a number of things, best diagnosed by a professional, in person. Feel free to disagree if you think it helps the OP.
see a 'chartered physio' mate..........that's what WE do!
Do you do it on internet forums? If that's what you do, as a professional, I would have thought you'd be offering better advice that googling the internet....
-
I think you should go see a qualified individual and refrain from self diagnosing if you can, otherwise you're going to get yourself worked up, probably unnecessarily. A rest from anything that is putting your hand under strain is probably best in the meantime - so get off the internet.........

I was at the Isle of Wight festival this weekend and saw two Ashdown examples up close. The first was JJ Burnel's rig that was made up of four ABM 4x10s and two what seemed to resemble the Mark King Ashdown Labs heads but in black, not sure what these were. Also, the backline for the unsigned stage was two of the Neo 4x10s coupled with one of the Klystron valve heads. Both these rigs in a band situation sounded superb - crisp, clear and defined and put the masses of Ampeg rigs to shame. And I'm a fully paid up Ampeg Club member. I was very impressed and if I had to choose right now I'm preferring the Ashdown!
