1.
I got a new SVT 4 delivered to me recently and i discovered that the main vents are on the side of the head. Are there any 6u-8u racks which are wider than usual and allow air to flow easily around the side? Also, are plastic racks very strong? I obviously want to protect the head as much as possible but it weighs a ton already and a wooden/metal rack would add more weight. Any help will be appreciated!
I run mine in a standard SKB 6U rack, together with a DTR2000 tuner and have no problems with venting. It gets hot but no hotter than any other amp I've tried. Some guys in the US drill a few holes in the side of their cases to aid in ventilation but that worries me as I reckon it must compromise the structure of the case. I'd not worry about it too much. Cheers Steve
2. Failing that try www.basspartsresource.com. Takes a little while but worth it due to the exchange rate.
3.
On the other hand, the S1 switching & through body stringing gives you more sound options with the MIA standard.
The S1 switching on the Precision does not thing positive from an audible point of view - in fact it's merely a volume drop. On the Jazz, however, it's much more versatile.
But all in all, the finish on either isn't great. You only have to look at a CIJ Fender like my Geddy Lee. It makes all the American ones look and feel shoddily made.
You've made this sweeping statement before which i think is totally incorrect. In my experience of owning Japanese Fenders (I have had a Geddy and a 75 reissue) the quality is consistently good but does not make all American ones look shoddily made. You may find some that compare unfavourably but I can't fault my current American series Fenders, of which I have three. I don't disagree that Japanese Fenders are the best value for money wise, but I think you go too far in writing off the American series.
4. Dan's the Dood..
5. Well it looks like you can only plug it in the front, as the front is the only place that can receive an input signal (although in the manual of my Ampeg head it says the tuner out can be used as a -6dB INPUT if required)
6. My (and Homer's) ex 2 band 'ray weighed 9lb 3, which is marginally lighter than any of my Fender Precisions, if that helps at all.
7. From what I gather, the initial design was the more modern one with the silver grill, which wasn't well received, so they reverted back to the well known BA combo design. Soundslive have the old pics.
8.
Muppet... would be interested to hear what you bought instead? Steve
Steve, I bought an Eden Nemesis RC410 combo instead. I already had a BA115HP. There's a write up in the review section somewhere. cheers Steve
9. You have PM, Richard...
10. You know what this is. £110 posted. No trades, root vegetables, chickens, wives or girlfriends (unless pic is posted beforehand) and no "can you wait till payday/week next Thursday/till I win the Lottery?". Few days then ebay gets it.
11. Midsomer? You were lucky to get out alive! Well done!
12. I tired of waiting for these, so bought something else. Some UK retailers dangle the carrot as soon as announcements are made [at NAMM or elsewhere] by sticking infor on their site, knowing full well they can't get hold of stock .
13. Yup Japanese 62 reissue if it's got the external earth strap and that headstock. The problem with japanese reissues is that they are not exact replicas, so there may be tiny differences in the fitting . If you bought a reissue pickguard there would be no telling whether it would fit. Japanes reissues tend not to have the correct holes for pickup covers or thumbrests either (as many don't come with them) so you'd need to consider that if you were trying to make it look authentic. The WD reissue pickguards are for 70s basses, as as a result have the thumbrest holes in the wrong place for a 60s bass. However, I used to own a japanese 75 reissue Jazz and I ordered a US vintage pickguard from WD Music. It fitted near perfectly with a little bit of filing to make it fit neatly against the control plate.
14.
although i'd have to try and get an S1 knob from somewhere
YUp, that's gonna be the tricky bit. the Jazz knob is a plastic knob, like thr original but has a centre push like the Precision, though the pot itself is exactly the same on both basses. Good luck with your knob search John!
15. Short answer - no. Fender are highly restrictive in their S1 pots. You can't buy them as spares, so you either buy a complete control plate and swap it out (like the one I was selling on here but had no takers) or fit a generic push/pull to effectively do the same. Steve
16. I'm with Dan, I'd have the Japanese version over the HW1 and you have £200 in to the bargain for other goodies.
17. got my combo from music-store.de. Quick shipping and good prices

Light P-Bass

A Japanese Fender with basswood body. Much lighter in my experience. All my US Precisions come in between 9lbs and 9lbs 6.
19. Definitely one of those basses that you should try before you buy to see if it suits your playing and sound. There's nothing worse than buying a particular bass just because it's cool to own and be seen with one or because someone famous used to play one but knowing deep down after playing it that it's just not suitable for you.
20. It should be ok, however, you'll likely only get one channel of a stereo sound coming through.
21. I've got a couple of old flight cases that I'm going to butcher to create a new pedalboard. Can anyone recommend a good place to buy spare parts (online is cool), especially those split hinges? cheers Steve
22. If you want to stick to passive I've got a set of Jazz pickups from an 2006 American Jazz lying around doing nothing. Barely used. Shout me if you want and we can think about a price.
23.
Don't know much about the combo's, but I have a WT400 and it's a superb piece of kit. Probably more of a hi-fi'ish type sound, but can do thuddy, boomy, sparkling, ..... . The only thing it doesn't really do is ampeg-like dirty. As for the cabs, I'd love one, but they're so flippin' heavy. I once played through the Metro combo (500W -with extension cab- 2x10) and loved the sound, but I love my lower back more!
I put a review of my Eden Nemesis RC410 in the reviews section a while back.... Depends which combos you are talking about though. The Metro is superb but as Rumble says, is not exactly lightweight
24. I'd be interested to know whether the parts actually check out to be Fender and how it plays. A precision neck with block markers is highly unusual
25. Yup American basses all use imperial. However, I'm not sure that the metric ones are a direct replacement - I would have throught the diameter and thread spacing might be different and not compatible with the saddle?
