Didn't buy anything from him but he pointed me in the direction of something that I was after and was struggling to find big time, so thumbs up to Nick. Steve
Alan Try this on the J-Retro: Wind back the bass pot because the J-Retro has bass boost at the detent. Wind back the treble pot to take the top off. Wind the mid frequency all the way back, i.e. as low as possible Boost the mid level pot to taste. Pan the blend control towards the bridge pick-up. I find this a good starting point and it punches through everything. I use this with the amp almost flat and then boost the bass control a gnats if need be or tweak the blend back toward the centre. Works for me.
A bit similar to mine Bass pot wound back so that marker is at 12 o clock (facing bass) PUP blend wound back so that marker is at 12 o clock Treble pot marker at 3 o clock Mid frequency at 4 o clock Mid boost at 4 o clock Amp set flat and then I tweak the bass and mid very slightly according to venue and whilst we're posting pics (think I should get a new pickguard actually cos of the gap...)

Allparts neck going for over £300.....???????
Muppet replied to Beedster's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
In fact, I've just found the same neck new for £119.00.
Where'd you find that Chris? I'm looking for one but there's no way I'm paying £300 for one! Bit of lacquering - £7, replacement decal £10, tuners £40 tops maybe. It does look a good job though. Even got the 'made in USA' and the 'serial no' on the rear (even though there seems to be no actual number. Steve -
£350 seems a pretty good deal! It's gonna be a corker when it's done! S
Thanks. The earthing strap comes with the Fender Custom Shop pickups. Probably dont need it but I like the look! Regarding the S1 swithch I was told that Fender wont sell them so I didnt even bother trying to get one, and just went for a push/pull pot. Which I think works better as it's easier to see what position it's in. For me anyway. Tony
I think it looks cool with the earth - I didn't know they came with the pickups. I thought that too about the S1 switch cos I've been scrabvling round the net for ages - I saw your post and I thought "yes! someone's found one!!" not to worry though, I think your soluiotn is probably better. Oh and glad to have (third hand) supplied the tuners! cheers Steve

That looks brilliant. Did the body come with the earth strap on it or did you do that? Looks great either way. A question about the S1 - looking at the parts kit it seems it's a series/parallel switch that does the same as the S1, but it's not actually the S1 system though, is it? I though the S1 switch was a latchable buttonrather than a push pull knob. The reason I ask is that I've been trying to get a S1 switch for ages but they're like rocking horse poo..... Steve

That's a Wednesday, right? I'll definitely see if I can make it down. Rich, Bigvern, Mike - anyone up for it? Long while since I been to the Moon... Steve
I have my own gear, but no transport. Looking to start a project. Into many kinds of music, idealy looking for something either Rocky or Punk rock. Bands i'm into :- The WiLDHEARTS, Honeycrack, The Jellys, NOFX, Bad Religion, Toy Dolls, Descendents, All.
I'm trying to work out if I know you from your gear! have your tried the local music section of www.peterborough.net?

well, totally the opposite for me. I have a number of Precisions fitted with Seymour Duncan Quarter Pounders and a Lakland Darryl Jones fitted with a J-retro preamp. The output from my 2001 4003 is greater than all these. It is crucial to set these things up properly for relief and pick up height. If your mate has to turn the input and the output up double then there is something wrong somewhere.

Alan, is that Nick? I'd be worried mate Only kiddin'! Have a great time.

I have little fingers like you have no problems playing a wider neck and spanning frets. I think it's all down to technique and finger placement. Some players grip the neck in the palm of their hand and roll their thumb over the top edge (in the same way as as guitarist). If you use your thumb as an anchor on the back of the neck then you end up with a much better reach up and down the fretboard as well as being more comfortable with wider necks.

My DJ4 is superbly light to play and sounds a dream. A J retro further transfoms it. The weight is comparable to a P bass coming in at 9lb 5oz but the body size is a littel bit smaller than a standard Jazz. If you can get along to play Dave's then I'm sure we'd all be interested in your views. FWIW, it is the best contructed bass I have overall.
Instead of a sticky, why not pool the information into our Wiki?
Even better idea, though from the looks of it the edits could take a while!

We need a sticky for Muse sounds.

Yup, I've got a 610HLF and it has this bulb. The 410s have them too. Protection system I agree, but it doesn't half need some seriously bad EQing to get it to light.

Right, this is annoying me now - I'm off to hunt out my micrometer from the garage and check all my Sunbeams......

Ooops, meant to say, I don't know the Tap Room. Only place I've played in St Ives is The Golden Lion. Where is the Taproom Rich?
-
Yup!

My blue Stingray I think - mainly because it had sentimental value. However, knowing that it has a much better home now with Homer makes me happy.

The cloth comes on a roll and is sold per metre. It is 90cm wide so the minimum you can buy I would guess is 100cm x 90cm. If you buy between 1 and 4 metres you pay the highest price per metre, between 5 and 9, the middle price per metre and over 10 metres the lowest price per metre. How much do you need? Well only you will know that given that it's your cabs you need the measurements of!! I would suggest you measure the grill you need to cover plus a couple of centimetres each side to allow for overlap.
