1. I use quiet a lot of Zoom gear (B2, G2, Rhythm Track etc) They can be a bit fiddly working out how to use 'em - but they've all been well made and good value for money. The extreme effects are a bit silly and useless - but worth it for the basic effects and lots of functionality.
This looks really good. Especially the looper. I want one!

  2. Here for sale to fellow basschatters is a BRAND NEW, boxed, unopened, unused Zoom H2 Recorder

    £100 (inc postage within UK).

This is a brilliant gadget for rehearsal and live recording.

I actually already have one of these (which is how I know it works so well) but ended up with another due to an ordering mishap which I failed to resolve in time. :)

Basically it records to digital format, without clipping / distortion (even in LOUD situations), and due to 4-way condenser mikes can be positioned in the middle of the room for 360 recording. You can even adjust the balance for a basic mix (see attached pic).

  3. Not essential, but if you have a spare space, you could get a power unit with a racklight. Its really handy having the on switch at the front (if your amp's power switch is at the back), and a power hub for anything else in the rack. The racklights good for show off purposes :)

I think people were hoping for a larger tube power stage. The disappointment is possibly because it's a class-D power stage, which dumps it right into the middle of a very competitive market.

Fair enough. But there's always room for one more eh? They've only made 50, so its not done for market share. Hopefully 50 people will want one - cos its exactly the spec that they want - and everyone will be happy. :)

Lol just goes to show how different we all are eh, but important to remember this aswell, lots of companies make stuff that isn't for me(Ashdown included) but that doesn't mean it isn't perfect for someone else...

    +1.

There were quite a few posts on this forum when LB first came out, from people saying they just wished it had a bit more under the hood. So, a few months later here we are - exactly what some people seemed to be asking for. They've responded to specific feedback and they still get slagged off. They can't win. Personally I'm not keen on the looks or the name of this one, but thats just me. I still wish them luck with it. The world might be a better place if more companies could do some short-run development, rather than mass producing a limited range. Hopefully they don't take this forum too seriously, and carry on doing what they're doing.

Seen Pino use an ABM head with Epi 410 lots of times so compatability shouldn't be an issue, just tame the low end a tad by backing off gently on the bass end of the eq till you get the sweet spot for the room
+ 1. ABM eq takes a little bit of fiddling with, but if you persevere you shouldn't need to buy different gear. Its worth switching the pre-shape off too.

  7. I bet it sounds brilliant tho. :) I think its really good that Ashdown build short-runs of amps - there's something really appealing about limited editions, hand-built etc. Tho personally I don't mind where something is built as long as it works and I can afford it.
But I agree this version looks a bit low-rent, compared with some of the competition (that letraset-looking font doesn't do it for me). Their chrome fronted valve gear looks amazing.Hopefully that will re-appear if a version of this goes into full production.

  8. You might find that this can be sorted quite quickly, and to the original spec. From what I can gather about my looooong wait for my Ray, the delivery hold ups are not at the production end - rather that they deliver the basses in batched shipments. So you end up waiting ages for a whole order - lots of basses- to be fulfilled and delivered to S&T. So, stands to reason that if the issue is raised with the right folk that they would want to ship you a replacement without having to wait. Then you'll have got what you originally wanted. So might be worth holding out for a little bit?

  9. Too right to make a fuss about it - you should definitely expect it to be spot on. But benefit of the doubt - sounds to me like its just bad luck. Sometimes these things just slip through the net - same with anything really. It doesn't mean that the whole production process is going to pot, or it wasn't the right choice of bass. The main thing is whether they can and will sort it out quickly - and without any hassle. Hope it works out!

  10. Top choice! I totally sympathise about the waiting - mine took 9 months from order to receipt! (the sales guy said 3).

I'd really like to know how you get on with the extra pup. Its been essential for me, cos I play with a pick (and I don't care! :) ) - but I sound horrible and clanky on a regular ray, without extrme eq. I know - thats probably just me! But the outer or inner coils on their own sound superb. Sure it'll be worth the wait

  11. I had one and it seemed more than enough for loud band practices (in small rehearsal rooms) - and really well built - but I felt it needed the extension cab for gigs. Maybe just cos it looked better stacked up :) Soundwise I reckon the 210 version is a better bet than 115. That 410 combo would be great if weight is not an issue. Might be worth looking for a 2nd hand abm tho?

  12. Inspired by this thread I got a h2 - arrived today. I ordered from zoom4u (who?) - cos it was in a value bundle with various H2 goodies. I had to send several emails to get a delivery date - and then, when it arrived, the 4mg card on the picture turned out to be a 1mg card . Re-read the small print, and you have to pay extra for that. hmmm. And the "fabric cover" is probably worth about 15p. When will I learn that Amazon is my friend, and I should never try to be clever by shopping around. Should have gone to specsavers. 8mg card and better cover on now order from someone else.

Anyway - initial tests are really promising. What a brilliant toy - no more fannying about with 8-track and condensor mics / preamps etc just to get a rehearsal tape. Band rehearsal in a few days so will put through its paces then. It seems like a really good piece of kit tho - despite seeming VERY cheap looking. Looks like one of my sons crappy plastic toys. Dead impressed with the 4-channel surround, so maybe £139 is ok!

  13.
I think its lack of sale is down to Ashdown's previous small head offerings, which were in all fairness, pure sh*te, and thats coming from an Ashdown fan. I'll admit, i have had a limited experience with the superfly and little giant, but the concensus seems the same.

In fairness, some folk say that the earlier ashdown d class amps were innovative and pretty good, for the time. Also, it seems that a lot of the recent ashdown gear has really hit the spot. So, given that they've got early expeience in the class d market, and quietly finessing things in R+D for some time, it could be killer. Personally I wish it was a bit bigger, cos I don't like fiddly gear - but maybe I'm missing the point on that!

  14. Just to chip in....Ive used mostly an abm 3 for a couple of years now. Overall I'm really happy with it. Sounds ace; really meaty, defined - but with a slight blur to the tone (but in a warm/good way). Took a little while to get used to it, and a bit of trial and error, but good results in the end.

Needless to say I bought the fullstack to go with it (cos I'm a dinasaur, and thought I needed it :) ) - and regret not looking at other options. Put together, it sounds awesome - though I'm not sure that the ABM 115 adds that much to be honest - and I never really get to use the (better sounding) 410 cos its a pain to shift up our narrow stairs! I'll change the cabs at some point.

On the eq....Like others say, seems you can end up all over the place with just a bit too much of something. That might explain some of the reactions from folk who use them for one-offs, and then say never again! (or maybe they just don't like the flavour! fair enough). But for what its worth, as a starting point - I usually set at bass dial @ 11 oclock, mid dial @ 1 oclock, treble at 1 oclock. Both outside sliders up a notch. Inside sliders flat. Valve at 12oclock (10oclock of using the stingray). Shape switch off. Subbass on @ 8 oclock (not needed, but what the hell). Honestly cant decide what to do about the compressor (suggestions welcome!) Doubt that helps very much but it works for me :)

  15.
I don't remember the GB models I've tried, definitely not the Streamliner tho... Would love to try one, the thing is and amp or a cab really shows it's advantages/disadvantages when gigging, in a room they all sound good :). As for trying another bass - I am thinking of getting a good jazz this year, probably a 5str Sadowsky, but I'll never part with my Stingray... it fits me so well, I think it's got something that many of the top basses can't provide...
Well I tried a streamliner last week (900 version) - and was dead impressed. I was determined not to like it either, on grounds of being newfangled but it got me thinking I need to start saving up! It struck me as being really slick and light - whislt also being a serious bit of kit. The "less is more" approach seems to get it right, like back to basics but without feeling like you're missing anything. And it sounded superb in the shop (not a good road test I know :) )...really meaty, which might have something to do with all those values. I dunno. But it seemed to go really well with the ray I used, which not everything does. I'd love to hear that amp in a band situation. I haven't researched them at all, so can't comment on reliability etc.

  16. Live in cases are a good option, if you don't mind the bulk, cos the amps really well protected and you don't have to take it to bits - and just unclip the front&back for gigs. You can get them for any make of amp. I got a couple of spaces added for rack toys (yup, should have got a rack amp to start with :) ). Its quite heavy so not for the lightweight folk!. I'd guess the case + rack stuff weighs about the same as the amp on its own. Looks cool, so thats ok.

  17.
The is a Peavey 1820 or similar in for sale, it has biamp capability, so you can run two amps in, the mid drivers won't cope with that orange full tilt though. Might be able to rig a hi-pass before the Orange to keep them shiny and safe.

Edit: checked and the one in for sale isn't made for biamping, but could probably be made to be.
I've got an 1820 that is made for biamping, and has separate inputs for the 10s and the 18 (sort of two cabs in one, I think). Its great fun if you like that sort of thing - especially with the 18. Both the 10s and the 18 run at 8ohms. Weighs a ton and sounds fab.

  18.
Hello, Mr Ashdown person. I wish you every success with the launch of the miBass but my question has to be asked: has anyone at Ashdown considered the wisdom of making a ten quid optional extra this product's main USP?
In fairness its not the main thing is it? and its got some people talking about it. :)
