1. I am really a P bass player these days (grew out of stingrays 5 or 6 years ago)... but I picked up a 2015 US std jazz last week. I already regret it a little, it's the third time I've bought a jazz (the other two are long sold)... It's a great instrument, jazz basses just sound a little weak for me, compared to my P bass. I'm trying to keep hold of this one though - I know if I sell it I'll just buy another one in a couple of years! Why do I keep doing this!!
2. Ha - you seem to have gone through the same drive pedals as me in recent years (bassdrive, knightfall, BB etc) - if I may, having tried most of the RAT variants, I'd check out the TK421x over the fuzzrocious, much more versatile and didn't lose the low end like the rat tail... If you don't shift the BBBOD come pay day I may well be in touch
3. I should also add, i think I saw a BB preamp (and maybe even an old full tone bassdrive) in the classifieds for decent prices, so don't rule out going second hand. You won't lose much more than the postage costs if you decide you don't like a pedal and want to resell it...
4. I am a huge fan of the Xotic BB preamp, but the EHX pedal seems to be getting some good reviews, and is half the price. The BB doesn't have (or need, IMO) a blend, and is more versatile as it has a 2 band EQ, but it doesn't seem like you need that with your DHA pedal already on the board...
5. you don't half get through some pedals Andy!!
6.
Thinking of moving the P on?!?!
not a chance! it's my main gigging bass
7. thanks guys, spent a couple of hours playing bass tonight... after 90 mins on the jazz, the P neck feels huge now!
8. got to be the TK421x from COG for me - I've always had a hankering for a RAT based pedal, and after trying most of the popular ones (fuzzrocious, idiot box, not to mention the original RAT) the COG just sounds right. It's the core tone for my new band
9. thanks - not stopped playing it tonight!
10. OK, here are a few pics. Sadly, I just have a camera phone, and not a very good one either!!! Here she is, next to my 2011 US Std Precision... The P bass is a lovely weight, but the jazz, if anything, is slightly lighter still. The back of the neck is almost sanded in feel, much easier than the P bass to play... The fingerboard is really quite dark, compared to the P... All in all, a really nice bass, very happy Action was setup far too low in the shop, a little buzzy, but nothing a proper setup won't sort out!
11. got it!! clock-watching at work now, pics tonight
12. It's rosewood and 3TSB finish. Same as my 2011 P bass Oddly, for somebody who normally plays stingrays and P basses, the AV75 neck almost felt too chunky to me!! Looking forward to picking it up today...
13. so I popped into PMT in Bristol today, as they have an 18 months 0% interest free offer on at the minute. I was on the hunt for a Jazz... They have a pretty good selection in there at the minute, I was able to lock myself away in a room and try an american standard, an AV75 and a Geddy Lee, plus I tried a US jaguar as well. The neck on the Geddy is nice, as a lot of people have said, and it had the hottest pickups, but for how it felt, played and sounded (a little understated compared to the Geddy), it was the US standard that won out for me... picking it up tomorrow so pictures to follow. The AV75 was very disappointing, not worth more than the US standard to me, let along £500 more. Heavy, and the neck didn't feel that great. The Geddy was very nice, I can see why people talk them up, but it wasn't really what I was after. Roll on tomorrow!
14. I used to have an old (big box) microsynth, and I ran it after my OC-2, into a muff. dumbest decision I ever made (RE pedals) was selling that thing, with an OC-2 and a fuzz it could make some monumental sounds! I wouldn't personally run them parallel - didn't have any problems running them into each other, but I didn't use the sub slider on the microsynth and the OC-2 together (didn't see the point, I was already feeding the EHX with subs...). Have fun and try it in every different line-up you can think of, you never know what'll sound good until you try it
15. YES
16. may have read about the monies thing on talkbass... does it really matter why it's dear though? as has been said, mastotron gets you there!
17. WITHDRAWN
18. I think I read that most of the crazy price is due to it not being a ZVEX design, so they pay the circuit designer commission on each one sold? Tried one, definitely not for me, but can see how in the right context some players would dig it...
19. bump... this is such a good pedal!

Diabolik!

JMJ just posted over on TB that Malekko have confirmed that nothing at all has changed with the pedal, so ignore everything I have been saying (apart from that fact that it still sounds awesome) once you hit 40, you eally do start to lose it!!
21. you should spend some of your pedals budget on more tinsel for that tree mate nice board - how is the tentacle working out??
