Part of me says fair play to him, if people are prepared to pay that then why not charge it! But yeah, ridiculous when you consider how simple they are, and (IMO) that they don't sound that amazing.
I had a Pitch Bay for a short time, didn't think much of it. Digital sounding (unsurprising perhaps, it's digital), but also kinda difficult to use with precision. I'd probably look at the Bass Whammy if I needed any pitching needs again! Si
ah, cool cheers for that matey, saves me another purchase!!!
-
part of me was hoping you'd say the whammy sounded like the POG ok, cool - something to probably check out then. Harmony settings, maybe with delay, is what tempts me - still tempted to try an EQD pitch bay, just for pedal size considerations!!!
-
very nice... I heard the clips of the Animated over on TB a while back, sounds pretty good. So - this whammy malarkey. What do you use it for? There are so few clips of anyone properly using one online that I'm on the fence about ordering one. I tried my guitarists POG2 recently and hated the chimey, digital-ness of it, how does the whammy sound with all that dirt???
It really is mate. If a subby fuzz, RAT-alike and OCD-alike setup's good enough for Brian Cook, then it's good enough for me!
yeah, that was the inspiration behind buying the knightfall!!
-
ha - yes yes and yes. TFR is pretty magical! Just back from my first practise with the Knightfall, and it really doesn't disappoint - can't recommend the Knightfall or the TK-421x highly enough - those two with the TFR makes for a great dirt pedalboard lineup
-
hey man - yes, tried exactly that, low gain knightfall into TK-421 and 'stock' TFR sounds immense knightfall is everything I hoped it would be, but also highlights how badass the TK-421x is!! I liked the grand tarkin, but it just didn't have that 'something' that the TFR has...
-
make sure you plug in a decent set of headphones, it's the only way you can appreciate the ludicrous bass levels from the tall font also, if anyone knows how to embed a soundcloud playlist player into a post, please chime in!! couldn't get it to work...

Thanks to some recent purchases, and a very kind loan from Tom @ COG, I currently have a nice little collection of dirt pedals in the flat. And a day off today. And a ZOOM recorder... so thought I'd do some sound clips in case anyone is interested in comparisons between these pedals... We have an Xotic BB bass preamp, COG Knightfall (stock, with snazzy Archer etching), TK-421-x (modded RAT) and two very nice muffs, a Wren and Cuff Tall Font Russian and a COG Grand Tarkin (thanks for the loan Tom!): Recorded through a US P bass (2011) into my old Bassman 135 and Marshall 1935, recorded with a ZOOM H2. Sadly, still at respectable volume levels, as annoyingly the neighbours are in, but hopefully loud enough that the character of the pedals comes through!! I don't have a looper, but equally didn't want to just pick a riff and repeat it endlessly. So instead there is 2-3 mins of noodling with each pedal (no apologies for the playing, but both I and the amp could probably have warmed up a bit more!)... I think this shows the character of the pedals better anyway, as you find yourself playing more what the pedal inspires you to do (e.g. Tall Font... DOOM) No processing or EQ tweaking or anything, just the mp3's from the ZOOM imported via garageband and a 23 minute jam chopped up into little clips covering each of the pedals. Generally, there is one sound setting for each pedal, which is my favourite setting, though I did light and heavy clips for the Knightfall, as it's a versatile little chap! I recorded a couple of them again (TK-421x and Knightfall), as either the volumes on the pedals were low when I did the first recordings, or the amp wasn't warmed up, but they sounded a little quiet / tame. The second clips sorted that, but all clips uploaded These are uploaded as a soundcloud playlist - hopefully it works OK, as I've not tried doing this before!
Thoughts gaz?
funny you should say that... day off today, and uploading some sound clips from this morning right now

soooooo... Thursday night is a dirt box shoot out! Winner stays on

had to post this, even though it's not in my grubby mitts yet, as it just looks immense Sterling Malory ("Duchess") Archer Knightfall ...whilst it has been said 100 times before, it still needs saying again. Tom is the man.
But, if an Octoplus costs you £40....I'd still pay £20 more and get an OC-2
yes sir - good as the octoplus was, the only octave I have kept out of octoplus, OC-2 and pearl OC-07 is the OC-2
-
ha - was just reading this from the top and thinking to myself 'octoplus' they are great, mine tracked better than my OC-2, and the tone control on the octave down gives you a lot of control and options!
-
I don't think I will be able to help much, as I am very bad at describing how pedals sound! I used to have a rat tail and a blower box, and now have a TK421x. I've not really messed with the diode options (yet), but yes, having the blend and the two LPF's means you can really dial in a lot of different sounds. I absolutely love mine, but for whatever reason never really got on with the RT or the BB... I'll maybe try and do some clips, but don't have much in the way of recording options at home at present...

on a side note, the sound mix in the fleece in bristol was not great, bass seemed to be far too low in the mix, except for when he stepped on something higher gain... shame, but didn't spoil a cracking gig.
any know what the larger silver pedal is in the middle?
no, I was going to ask the same. just googled the termofuzz, which looks very interesting, but no idea on the silver one... bluebeard with a mid control???

Board was still BIG!! And yeah, every man in the room fell in love with her Si
Gaz, I assume you've seen the Russian Circles Rig Rundown here, where he goes through his rig quite extensively...Doesn't sound like his board's changed much.
yep, watched that a couple of times, and yeah, pretty much the same setup. He wasn't using that big blender pedal any more though... (big bottom I think it was called?)
-
I'm fresh back from watching Russian Circles play tonight, and if (as I suspect) the Knightfall is based on an OCD, I will be after one soon (Brian Cook sounded immense tonight, mostly - I think - using fuzzrocious pedals based on a rat and an OCD)
-
So, just back from watching Helms Alee and Russian Circles (Bristol)... Interesting to nerd out at the end and see Brian Cook's pedalboard, there were a couple of new (as far as I know) pedals on his board, but I could only pick out one, and that was the TSVG Bass. Don't know if he used it though: http://www.tsvgpedal...hard-stuff-bass Other than that, he has a digitech bass whammy, a POG 2, nano holy grail, TU-2, memory toy delay, ernie ball volume pedal, akai head rush, fuzzrocious demon and rat tail pedals (both housed in the smaller MXR sized cases) and a swollen pickle. Took a picture but it didn't come out too well. Was funny, about 6 bass players swarming around his board at the end!!! Immense gig, was great to finally be able to check out Helms Alee live too
-
cool. the fixed resonant filter part of this pedal appeals...

lots of great songs in this thread: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/226669-favourite-oddistortionfuzz-sound-on-a-song/page__p__2335698__hl__ben%20folds__fromsearch__1#entry2335698

good to know! I'm currently in the honeymoon phase with a COG TK-421x (their souped-up RAT-based pedal), and it's just insanely good, so considering other COG pedals for the future TFR is a fave of mine, but bit too nice/smooth for my current band, so the tarkin sounds a good shout... it never ends...
