yeah, my first thought was the world-wide face-palming of anyone yet to sell their old model I've been on the fence getting a regular whammy for a while, so fingers crossed this thing sounds as good as it looks...
-
hey folks, so for those not on talkbass, Juan Alderete posted a pic of the prototype for the new bass whammy! Link here: http://instagram.com/p/iFZs0cBD6O/

I love my tall font, and before I settled on it I tried a lot of different muffs from EHX, clones from mates and boutique (fuzzrocious, W&C, etc). It all depends how fussed you are and what you want to spend. My TFR is amazing but the bass big muff I had before it is 90% as good and much cheaper, and joe public certainly won't notice the difference.

I thought there was loads on garageband - go vis 'real instrument' and 'bass' and there are loads of editable bass presets?

Fuzz - The Sound that Revolutionised the World (Documentary)

Oh, also, while we're all in a fuzz post, a quick question... I have a muff pedal i love and a brassmaster under the xmas tree. Very tempted to try a superfuzz varient one day. Are there any other 'classic' fuzz designs you've had good results with on bass? I hear mixed comments on fuzz face-based pedals... -

Lots of good points raised by bob and si. Forums introduced me to the xotic BB preamp and the wren an cuff TFR, which i'd never have found out about at PMT, so for that and that alone, it's worth sifting through all the annoying fanboi-ism However, i am annoyed to hear JMJ may be one of those tom cruise madmen... My diabolik is now tarnished, and i'm yet to use it yet!! -
They crop up on eBay every now and again, that will be your best bet at getting an original unfortunately. Good luck, nice pedal!
Last one went for close to £100 though I think there is a DIY circuit (madbean lowrider?) that is a close approximation?

Also, and I can't remember who said this either, but the guy who said something like "all those records you like, they were all made using worse pedals and gear than what you have available to you now"... in other words, turn off the computer and get out there playing,no magic pedal is going to make you play better -
It highlighted that very fundamental GAS thing though; what motivates it and how easily we, as consumers of this stuff, can be persuaded.
very true... There is definitely a role for the FX forums - pedals aren't cheap (especially whewn you're importing them from the states), and you don't get to try them out first, so hearing demo's is helpful... but as somebody said on the documentary, what is the value of somebodies opinion when they just buy the same pedals as the rest of the flock and haven't been playing long enough to form a proper opinion? I do chuckle a bit when I come across a demo of some kid with a huge pedalboard full of all the must-have pedals of the week, and he can barely play his bass -
...just because I'm counting down the days til I get to try mine http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7t6g2D95yX8
Yeah, same with me and Metallica's Some Kind Of Monster, can't stand the band, brilliant documentary! Si
Hetfield having a strop, storming out and slamming the door behind him like a teenager from a Harry Enfield sketch is pure Spinal Tap (as is most of that film, actually!!) -

I'd seen this before but watched again last night, v interesting! I've been watching a few music docs recently, the iron maiden one ('flight 666') is on youtube and worth a watch, even if you don't like the band -
No worries Gaz, I've been thinking of pulling the trigger on one from Prymaxe but thought I'd ask the question (I know how much you love it!).
Why don't you get a 'you're doom' and one of those darkglass fuzzes, so I can buy the one you don't like
-
If you end up liking the Diabolik more than the TFR, can I have first dibs on the TFR please - been wanting to try one for quite some time now
No chance of me sellig that one my friend - however good the diabolik may turn out, the TFR is the end of a looong muff quest and is going nowhere at all
-
Dibs if you don't like it
Ha, that was quick!
-
I hate Fuzz through 10inch speakers and, as Gaz mentions, tweeters! Very interested to hear your thoughts on the Diabolik Gaz! Si
Yes yes, tweeterless 4x12 all the way for me I'll try record some clips after xmas when i get back into the practise room, diabolik and TFR comparison i think... And oxfuzz bass too, unless somebody buys it off me first!!
-
I'm in the same boat, as am getting a fuzz for Xmas. My choice in the end was the Malekko Diabolik

love how mike matthews surrounds himself with south american women, not a man in sight!!! -
good vid Si, I'm more of an OSD fan too I think. Thing is, I sold my OSD and Rat Tail as for me they just cut too much low end, to my ears, or maybe it's just that you can't boost the lows enough (probably why I use a TFR and a BB now)...
-
The Echobox is one of my favourite pedals... Roll on receiving the BB Preamp - have heard lots of positive things about these.
the BB is a keeper for sure, especially at low gain with a bit of a bass boost/treble cut on the EQ oh, and Mr. Bender, PM coming RE the Echobox, never should have sold mine!!

yeah, some interesting comments over on talkbass and facebook, which I won't comment on, but the maths is very suspicious! I mean, she raised more than double the $20k needed for the project...
