ahh another dude doing boutique versions of the bassman circuit
this has me thinking - i love my old fender bassman 135 to bits, certainly my fave amp but it's starting to go wrong a lot lately, and crackling etc! aside from these audio kitchen folks, is there anyone else you know of making bassman-esque valve heads, ideally not charging £3.5k, or is it best just to keep my eyes on e-bay for an old fender?? cheers!

Worst names for musical equipment
Assmaster?
yeah, the barker assmaster is one of the best... just imagine some poor old dear walking out to get her son's xmas present and stopping someone in a guitar shop: "hello, my son gave me this list of pedals he wants for christmas, i'd like to look at your flanges, and what types of muff do you stock, russian muff, or american muff??? he also mentioned something about an assmaster" -
on the JM4 the coil tap switch turns the back pick up from single coil (i.e. Jazz pup) to humbucking dual coil (i.e. MM pup) I agree that these don't quite nail the MM 'Ray sound; but they are close enough to do the job. these basses are very flexible for sound and always sound great in any setting. I actually run mine passive most of the time and just go active if slapping or palm muting the strings. the JM4 does cop very good Jazz sounds in all the different configurations single coil you might like. i agree with you too they play unbelievably well. I couldn't resist the GAS inducing quality of these instruments. you may still be able to get an interest-free 10mth Arts Council loan, which is how I paid for mine from Electro Music in Doncaster. Also the tone controls only boost above the detent in active mode. in passive mode there is no change above the detent, i.e. cut only below the detent.
i'm alway anxious about these 'pull up pots' for selecting modes, is it pretty sturdy once in passive, not likely to be knocked back down into active when playing (just thinking about live - i currently switch between a P and a ray, if i can use one bass it'll be much easier!!) cheers
Generally its put first. Octave > Fuzz > Filter
i thought as much - thing is my mammoth clone really doesn't like to be after anything in the chain...
Oh yeah... bass and treble controls are centre detented, so either side is cut/boost.
cool, cheers how close to a musicman can you get the tone using the back pickup?
JM4 controls are... Volume, with pull up for passive Pick up pan pot Bass Treble There should be a micro switch on the control plate which is a coil tap(?). I just leave it on!!! In passive mode i think the eq is bypassed, but don't quote me. I tend not to use the passive bit...... Edited for spelling...
thanks - i wondered why i couldn't get any passive sounding sounds out of it - didn't try lifting any of the pots!!!!

hi, i tried a couple of sandbergs (JM4 and PM4) in a shop the other day. they both look and play fantastically, but i couldn't quite work out what the controls were actually doing, so probably wasn't getting the full range of tones out of them!!! i'd be very grateful if somebody who owns one of these could let me know what the 4 knobs are actually doing, RE active/passive, different pickups, etc, so i can go try them again!! cheers, and sorry for the dumb question!!
Move the whole bottom row across and get an OC-2 on there
yeah, that's more than likely what i'm gonna go for, with the fuzz and filter pedals it would be a nice synth - i've not got much experience of using octave pedals like this though, would you put the OC-2 after the fuzz pedals or before?

FS: Tokai Custom Edition P Bass (Jap early 80's)

OK, after deciding that i actually want to keep most of the pedals i had in the sales thread, i've ended up with 2 pedalboards one that i use in my bands, and one for fun at home: this is the setup i gig with: Tu-2 into an old bassdrive, DD-3 and eletronix submarine preamp this is the board i use to annoy the neighbours: the bandit is a mammoth clone with a preset for the pinch, into an electronix crossdrive (fuzz face/muff hybrid), into a maxon PT999 phase tone, then a tone factor 44 red filter and finally a maxon AD9 Pro analog delay. Space for something else on here too when i've got the cash, not sure what yet though

FS: Tokai Custom Edition P Bass (Jap early 80's)

Hi. With much regret i'm going to have to move on my 80's Tokai Custom Edition Precision bass. I love it to bits, but the neck is a bit too chunky for me. I have an early 80's JV squire and 80's stingray, and the neck profiles on those are pretty thin. I don't know what era P-bass the Tokai is based on, but it's a clubbier/chunkier profile neck than i'm used to, and i just can't adapt Anyway, the bass looks, plays and sounds immense, tone wise is exactly as i remember my 2002 corona made US fender P sounding (good, deep, woody, clunky sound). Sunburst, with RW fingerboard, pics below. Without wanting to talk this thing up, i've never come across another 'custom edition' tokai P before. Jap made and I think it's mid-1980's, but there is very little info on these models on the net (even on the tokai registory). The headstock is 100% fender P shaped (I believe Tokai had to change the shape of headstocks following the legal problems with fender in the 80's), and it also has 'oldies but goldies' in italic on the top of the headstock (something i think was only seen on the lawsuit era guitars??). £400.
If the shop im sending my MIA back to wants to just give me a refund im going to look in to the PM4. I wish i knew if that neck was jazz sized or not (and i know they do vary so its not that easy to tell).
dude just drop them an email via their web site and i'm sure they can check neck dimensions. failing that, i've got to pop in this week to pay for a phaser, so i can check if you fancy

Hey all, sorry if this is in the wrong thread, didn't know where to post (as i'm not technically selling anything!!) but anyways... My friend runs a little boutique guitar shop in Bristol and has a big sale on right now. Top bloke, and i've bought some mad professor and maxon pedals from him in the past. He has all pedals, boards, george L's etc at 15% off right now i think, so some real bargains to be had. http://www.jamguitars.co.uk/effectsmenu.htm worth a look, they have some cool pedals in stock!

Hey all, this is a rare journey out of the effects threads for me!!! In case anyone is interested in Sandberg basses, take a look at this link for a friends shop in Bristol, Jam Guitars: http://www.jamguitars.co.uk/sandbergbass.htm They're having a huge sale right now, and have some very nice Sandberg basses, all of which are going for 25% off retail price. They'reall on the link above, but seem to be going for £200 or so less than i've found anyone else selling. Really nice basses, i've probably tried them all now! Gaz
Tasty. Whats the Jericho pedal?
i don't recognise anything on the bottom half of that board - very funky looking too!

that's the same year as my bassdrive, 2002, and it's the only pedal that's never (to this day) left my board, whatever bass i've used or band i've been in. £90 is a very fair price for such a great pedal. Unlike the MOSFETS, these used to cost about £225. Dude, one question, what have you replaced it with?!?!?
Wow, that submarine looks very VERY tempting!
it's yellow too - sure to brighten up any pedal board priced to sell, as it's only had bedroom use and with import charges etc cost me close to £100... nobody's getting their hands on my electroniX crossdrive though, that's my fave pedal!!
I love the PT Mini! So sleek and svelte, and forces you to be economical with your pedal choices.
yeah, i'm a recent convert. plus, i don't like having to step over pedals when playing live, so having them all in a row is safer!!
