With the risk of being shot down, i wasn't very impressed really. Perhaps it was my very high expectations, or perhaps i'm just a bit speacial Paired with the Orange TB and my stingray 5, the sound seemed very processed. It seemed to sound a lot nicer with my Mesa 2x12, this may mean the Mesa has it's own tone that i prefer.......... not sure really. Don't get me wrong, it was plenty loud enough, i just didn't really dig the tone. I will maybe try it out again at rehearsals next week. They might find themselves in the Classifieds fairly soon though, so if anyone is after some, watch this space. cheers thebassman
Super Twelve all the way. A righteous pairing! (Alex will be pleased I sold my SVT3Pro!) The settings shown are what I use live - without a PA - Vol & Gain only @ 9'Oclock and the S12 has the headroom to take it all the way up.
Looks like a really nice set-up. I went for the Compact and midget T combination in the end. It may well be a compromise, but it sounds great. Can you zoom in on your Orange TB settings?, i can't quite see what the tone levels are set at. I have my bass tone rolled off to virtually Zero. I know my OTB has had the valves swapped out though, so this might change things. cheers thebassman
The screens are probably about an inch and a half wide, plenty big enough! They're hard to see in daylight unless you get very close (like trying to read a digital watch with the sun shining on it) but its never caused me any significant problems. Clear as anything at your average venue. And the tuner is very very visible!
Thanks, that sounds good. I might have to press the button on one of these. Cheers Thebassman

Can you see the screens well enough at gigs? Its difficult to see how big and how clear they are

I have a brand new Mesa Boogie M6 Carbine for sale. I have owned one of these for the last 18 months and it started to develop a fault, apparently the earlier models could potentioally suffer over heating issues. Anyway the nice guys up at Westside distribution told me that as mine was old they would just replace it with a brand new one. In fact it's probably newer than any you could buy in the UK. It was made and shipped direct from Mesa boogie, build date 6/6/12. The reason i am selling it is that i have decided to downgrade to a smaller cheaper rig. I have bought an Orange Bass Terror and although it doesn't sound as good, it pretty much does all i need. I only play in a function band these days so don't get to play at volume too often. Here's a link to the Mesa Boogie page: Mesa Boogie M6 Carbine http://www.mesaboogi...bine/index.html I will post some pictures later, but this will give you all the info. It is sat in it's original box so shipping isn't a problem. It comes with all the manual/ paperwork etc. Mesa Boogie give a 5 year warranty with all their products and their customer service is the best i have had to use. As it's brand new and ready to ship i am looking for £1100 for this. Any questions or extra pic requests then please ask away. Payment will have to be either cash on collection or Bank Transfer. Grab yourself a bit of Mesa Boogie quality before i change my mind. Thanks for looking thebassman
I don't have pa support, so it probably wouldnt be right for me then. I might take a look at one of the Super cabs or even the big twin. Cheers Thebassman
I spoke to Alex at Barefaced last night, he recommended me the Super 12/12T. That is also based on a lot of other factors, including What Bass, Strings, playing style, gig environments etc. I feel pretty confident now that this would cover all situations for me, i don't really want to have different cabs or number of cabs for small, medium or large venues....... too much to think about. I have always got my modded Orange crush cab for really small gigs and home rehearsals. I am still up for suggestions of other manufacturers cab though. cheers thebassman
Should be with PA support - without it it depends on the volume / venue.
Tentative +2 (haven't got my compact just yet . . . well Alex did say it'd take a little while (6 - 8 weeks)).
The compact looks interesting, especially price wise. Would it be a one cab solution for bigger gigs too? Cheers Thebassman
On a side issue (apologies) where are all these venues people play without PA support? I've only ever played 2 gigs without a PA.
Depends where you're playing. When I used to play proper venues there was pa support. I'm in a function band now, and I'd say 99% of the venues don't have pa support. That is for weddings, parties etc.

Hi Guys just recently acquired an Orange Bass Terror 500 off of JPJ on this very forum, and loving it BTW. I currently use it through my Mesa 2x12 powerhouse. It sounds awesome, just looks a bit lost. The Mesa is probably one the biggest 2x12's i have come across. I sometimes also run it through my bastardised, can i say that on here? hope so, Orange crush 35B combo. I basically replaced the awful Orange OEM speaker with a nice 350 watt celestion 12" driver, sounds great, just not sure i would use it at a gig. What does everyone else use as a cab for their Orange BT, or recommend. I have been looking at Barefaced cabs, just not sure which one. I play a lot of pubs/ clubs and some outdoor venues, mainly with no pa support. My Mesa always holds it's own in this situation, so would want a similar spec. cheers thebassman

Hi guys I have a Boss ME-50b multi effects pedal for sale. A great multi effects unit with lots of preset tones, 3 foot switches, a wah pedal, a built in tuner & loads more. Also comes with a generic mains power supply. It has a few cosmetic scratches, as seen in photos, doesn't effect operation though. Looking for £100. I will maybe trade for a Shure P2R IEM body pack or a good quality 8 channel mixer, like the Mackie 802-VLZ3. Thanks for looking thebassman
Don't be frightened about really using the extremes of the streamliner's EQ. Bass usually about 9-10 o'clock is a good starting point. With the mids there are 2 basic strategies that seem to work really well (obviously depending on bass/cab etc). Either cut heavily at 220 Hz or a solid boost at either 600Hz or 2.5 KHz. And treble to taste. Also try the gain button in and out. Even on clean settings, you will find a slightly different tonal range with each. I must play one of those OTB's one day soon !!!
Thanks I will give that a go. You should have a play with the Orange, definatley lives up to the hype. cheers thebassman

Thanks for all the suggestions guys. Although i would rather have done the DI into PA solution as a back up, this is not possible for our current set up. I was also from the school of thought that modern electronics will not break down until recently. My mates Fender amp stopped working, mid set, last year and my 2 month old Mesa M6 also failed last week, luckily at a rehearsal. So i have no choice but to get a back up. I have finally taken the plunge and invested in an Orange Bass Terror/ Genz benz Streamliner 600, as soon as i make my mind up which one is more suited to my application. cheers thebassman
