1.
That's a good idea but it's a 4 ohm cab, so adding another cab would drop the impedance below what my amp can deal with. Sounds like all you 1212 owners are confident that my cab will be loud enough. I'm quite looking forward to cranking it up now.
sorry dude, didn't realise it was a 4ohm cab.
 2.
Yeah that was one of the first things that popped into my head but we're sharing drums and stuff, so it seems in the spirit. I thought about it and in this situation I don't think anything bad's likely to happen to my gear, and I'll be there the whole time. Still would like to know if anyone's got experience of pushing these little Schroeder cabs hard. Actually Bill do you have a fancy maths thing that would theoretically give us the answer for a guess-sized room? Edit: And I've been trying to get people to take my girlfriend for years. Even tried to get her dad to take her back but he says possession is 9/10ths of the law.
if you're amp has 2 speaker outs, you could ask some else to bring another cab. Even adding a single 15 to your rig will make a lot of difference. I need a 4x10 to keep up with my drummer, although he is a very heavy hitter.
 3.
What's it like at handling 5 string at loud volumes, i am looking for something more compact but found that my last 4x10 lacked overall drive and punch?
I have been using this cab with a 400+ and a music man stingray 5 for the last 3 years. It sounds awesome. I spent ages trying to find the best cab for my amp/bass combination, this was by far the best. Cheers thebassman
 4.
Nice cab, What's the lowest you will take for it?
as I say, make me an offer. I was in Trowbridge today, that's weird.
 5.
Hi all, just before i ask this question, I have read the sticky topics on impedance and from what i can gather, i already know the answer but just want to double check, I'm not being lazy honest! I have borrowed a Ampeg SVT classic head to try out, its a tube amp so it has an impendance selector which lets you select 4 or 2ohms. The cab i have is an ashdown 410T rated at 8ohms on its own. Will I damage the head by trying to use it with this cab? Also i gather that if i ran 2 ashdown cabs rated at 8ohm in a daisy chain then i would be ok as long as i had 4ohm selected on the amp? is there any way of using my cab with the amp without having to buy or borrow another cab? cheers guys
I think these guys are kidding you. The amp will run perfect with an 8ohm cab. The only effect will be the amp will output half the stated power. If you double the ohms you half the output power. You only need watch out for matching cabs with lower ohm rating than the amp can output. Cheers thebassman
 6.
Thank You I will wait until it comes down a bit, too much at the moment
you could make me an offer.
 7.
Hi When it say's 8or4 ohm's is that what is available or is the ohm's switchable on the cab,Thanks Rich
This is definatley an 8ohm cab, there available as one or the other. As far as i know i don't think it's possible to have a switchable impeadance (ohm) on a speaker cab. It's an awesome sounding cab though.
 8.
Thats it, PauBass is now the proud owner. I will accept offers the Powerhouse 410 cab.
Price on Powerhouse 410 cab to £600.
 9.
I really dig the EMMA pedals. The DiscumBOBulator is a great envelope filter(auto way), and the ReezaFRATzitz is a seriously underrated overdrive/distortion.
for distortion I would recimment the tech 21 bass xxl, awesome pedal with no volume drop off. +1 for the mxr bass auto Q for wah effect. I have both of these. I tried boss effects and I wouldn't touch them with a barge pole. Cheers thebassman
 10.
I am toying with the idea of changing the stock Aggie speaker to something else soon but before I ask for people opinions about what to go for, how do I even do it?? I have never done anything like this so forgive my stupidity. Now, I assume that the speaker is loaded in through the front beneath the rather fetching cloth grill but does anybody know how to take that off/out without any damage being done. The last thing I want is to break it! I dont know if there is a suggested or recommended way to do it or if you just shove a knife in and try and lever it out, that sounds a bit dangerous to me. So anyway, if you can shed some light on the matter consider me eternally gratefull.
what is the reason for the speaker upgrade, I thought these were awesome cabs.
 11.
400+ Head sold to PauBass, on this forum, pending usual stuff. Just the cab to go.
Thats it, PauBass is now the proud owner. I will accept offers the Powerhouse 410 cab.
 12.
ive been offered one of these with a 1x15 cab for about 300 quid. im interested but i cant seem to find any reviews of them as a bass amp. everyone seems to use them as guitar amps. so anyone played one? how do they sound? are they loud enough? cheers
check out harmony central, they have some bass user reviews. Loud enough is relative, I have a bassman 135 valve amp in a 5 piece covers band and it just cuts it. These amps are 50 watts, so try before you buy if you can. Cheers thebassman
 13. 400+ Head sold to PauBass, on this forum, pending usual stuff. Just the cab to go.
 14. Hi I have a Mesa Boogie Powerhouse 4x10 for sale. This is in great condition, it is always transported in an official Mesa Boogie slip case. These cabs are heavy but have good quality wheels, so it is only heavy getting it in and out of your boot. I always do this on my own and i am not Arnie. The sound quality from this cab is awesome, i use it with the above 400+ head, but also with a Fender Bassman 135. I did try out nearly every cab on the market a few years ago when i bought this and this was head and shoulders the best. I am looking for £650 for this. If you are fed up with being drowned out by guitarists, then this rig is for you. I really don't want to ship these, god only knows how much it would cost, so pick up is recommended. cheers and please feel free to ask any questions. thebassman
 15. I am selling my Ernie Ball Stingray 5 bass in Natural finish. It is a 3eq model with Rosewood neck and black scratch plate. I have owned this bass from new, bought new from Machinehead Music, Hitchin in 2004, so i know it's full history. There is a tiny chip in the top layer of varnish on the bottom of the body, next to the input jack. There is also a very small dink between the tuning pegs, due to playing small venues and drummers owning cymbols. The only reason i am selling is that i bought another one, a limited edition 2004 "Green Envy" Stingray 5 a few years later and the Natural has been just sitting there. So the price i am looking for is £850, collection prefered or shipping at buyers own risk. cheers and thanks for looking thebassman
 16.
Can I plus my bass into the high input, to give a louder signal? or is it only for active basses? mine is passive.
I am pretty sure the high input is for passive basses and low for active.
 17.
Any one got a suggestion for a practice amp, mainly for home use but sometimes might be used for a quiet band rehearsal. Looking to pay around £100 tops. thanks Buzzy
I got an orange crush cr35b a few years ago for about £100. It is 35 watts into a 12" speaker. It looks, and more importantly, sounds great. I tried a few with 10" speakers and they sounded too tinny and not Bass like, to my ears. Make sure you look for the older cr35b, as the new range are all 10". Cheers thebassman
 18.
Hi. Although its absolutely my favourite amp though, it does look like I will be selling it soon, as we have recently changed things round in the band, and I now go through the pa and a pair of 18" subs, so I only need a small set up (I also have a TC Rebel and TC speakers). I havent used it for the last few gigs, and with the bookings we have coming up, it doesnt look like things will change much, so, including a purpose made Roqsolid cover, it would be available for £1250? If you buy a new one, I cant see how you would ever regret it! Cheers, Bob
Thanks for the amp info, i look forward to see the pics you take.
 19.
Hi. I have a Carbine/Fathom 2x12 combo which I bought from Bassdirect a few months ago, and its absolutely fabulous! It makes the whole stage rumble and still has huge amounts of power in reserve. Everyone in my band agrees its far and away the best bass amp I have ever owned, and I have no idea where people get the idea that its heavy from, as mine is made of birch ply, not mdf, has lightweight Neodymium speakers and I think comes in at about 80lb all in. This is nothing for a combo of this size and power, and certainly causes me no problems with the wheels and fitted handle. I can lift it in the van myself, so it cant be that bad! Cheers, I may well be interested in this. Can you pm me some more details, like how old, condition and pics. If ok would like to come down and have a look. Bob
20.
You can find a lot of reviews, opinions and experiences about Mesa amps, including the Carbine M6, on Talkbass. This amp gets a lot of good press. Personally I’d always go for separates instead of combos, especially if you're playing in loud bands. You could change over in stages, getting the Carbine M6 first and replace the cab later. Also I've seen good reviews of the Carbine M6 and M9 being paired with Bergantino cabs. You might be able to hear both at Bass Direct.
Cheers for the help. A stupid question, where is Bass Direct. thebassman
 21.
Here's the talkbass link I spent all afternoon today playing an M6  through my 2 x Berg AE210 cabs. It's amazing. Louder than you'll ever need and it really punches like a runaway train hitting a cliff wall. The tone is not typical Boogie per se but it is very Boogie in many respects. If you want distortion then you'll need an outboard pedal of some sort; this doesn't really distort, just overdrives nicely. Despite it simple control layout, it has an endless palette of sounds. Build quality is typical Boogie. I seriously recommend separates if you gig a lot. The rack version is 23lb and a Berg AE210 is 40 lb. Boogie cabs and combos are built like cathedrals (Liverpool excepted ) and are consequently very heavy and for me that gets tiresome. Try one, you will fall in love.
Are your Berg AE210 cabs both 8ohms? I only ask this as it means the amp will be running at 600 watts, 4 ohms. I use only 1 x 8 ohm cab, which will give me 300 watts. Just curious to campare relative volume. Distortion isn't a problem as i have a Tech21 Bass XXL, which is "my" holy grail of bass distortion pedals........ gives you a fantastic Muse distortion without any volume drop off. I know what you are saying about Boogie amps/ cabs weighing a ton, i currently use a 400+ and powerhouse 4x10 set up. cheers for the help thebassman
 22.
last time I was in Machinehead (machinehead.co.uk) in Hitchin, they had one in stock - that's not too far from you
Thanks for the heads up, i will give machinehead a call today and hopefully nip down this weekend. I tried Coda in Stevenage and they are expecting some Mesa gear in late Feb/ early March.
 23.
first off has anyone got or owned one of these? I am thinking about getting one, but as usual in this country you have to "buy before you try" I play in a 5 piece covers band, mainly large pubs playing a mixture of rock/ indie/ cheese. Bands like Elvis costello, blink 182, elbow etc. I also play in a 3 piece originals band playing Muse/ Nirvana style songs, lots of distortion, volume and loads of space for bass improv. We play small/mid clubs and venues. At the moment i use my MB 400+/ Powerhouse 4x10, which sounds awesome, but i am getting old and lazy. Will this amp cut it? I know it is stated as 300 watt solid state power through 2x12 against my 400 watt all valve through a 4x10. Any experienced views would much appreciated. cheers thebassman has no one owned or know someone with one? are they just terrible or just rare?
24.
Hi, Just seen a nice set up over here. Bassman 100 and silverface 4x12 I have a VBA 400 and 4x12 so sorted for valves and power really, just wanted to know if I take a punt, what would be a fair price for a fully functional setup with no real scuffs or tears? I saw on another thread someone found one at less than 500quid? Or was I dreaming? I have no idea about these amps, other than the fact that the stock speakers are apparently awful and will need replacing and that the 100 became the 135 around 79 or so. Any and all help appreciated lads, Cheers, Col
I have a Fender bassman 135, circa 1978. People normally say they are too clean for lead guitar but too quiet for Bass. I have used this head at rehearsals and some quite large pub gigs and it stands up well in a 5 piece, with two guitars and a full drum kit, no problem at all. I play it through a Mesa Boogie powerhouse 4x10. The tone is fantastic, we play anything from Elvis Costello to Elbow and the Beatles to Blink 182. cheers thebassman
 25.
Can anyone reccomend me some cabs to look at I currently using an ashdown abm 4x10 and 1x15 with an abm 500 head I love the sound of the rig but moving around on a regular basis on my own is killing my back Im using a vt bass for most of my sound but i like the warmth low end thump of the ashdown Do the lightweight cabs still deliver or do they sound a bit thin
I have owned a mesa boogie powerhouse 4x10 for about 4 years and it is absolutely awesome. I have tried lots of heads through it and they all sound great Mesa 400+/ Fender bassman 135/ Ampeg svt3 pro and some cheaper ones also. The cab is huge with 3 ports and an adjustable horn attenuator. It is rated at 600 watts continuous, 1200 watts peak. Not sure of the exact SPL, but it certainly shifts some air. It was very expensive and weighs a ton but well worth it for the sound, and reliability, it produces. cheers thebassman
