It's a posh greenhouse. I'd no idea there were any poshos on here. [edit for superfluous hyphen]

This Behringer BLE100 compressor is a copy of the Boss LMB-3. Having had both, I can tell you that they both sound and work exactly the same. There are some scratches to the screen printing, but otherwise it's in good condition and works perfectly. It also does not add noise, distortion or any other nasties to your sound - it's quiet and transparent whether it's switched in or out. Compression doesn't get any cheaper than this, but you'll have to go here if you want a photo: http://www.behringer...cts/BLE100.aspx

TC launched a range of bass equipment out of nowhere a few years ago that was very successful and continues to be so. I certainly didn't notice the marketplace being flooded with second hand TC gear.

I'm with you all the way, James. The songs seem fresh to me even after all these years. Jeff Lynn's last album was really good, also. I'm afraid he's not fashionable though.
Get the best cabs you can. A good amp through OK cabs will only sound OK, but a good amp through great cabs will sound fantastic.
Too true.
This whole site seems to be filled with grumpy buggers and nay sayers. It's a totally depressing read nowadays.
So glad you were able to join the club.

I hope they have improved these since the MkI version (they may well have) because they really cut corners on that one. Looked good from the outside, but a quick glance inside the box told a different story. And it sounded fine until you turned it up and the cabinet started singing along and all the definition went. I had the MB115 (only because I got it cheap). The MkI amps get lots of rave reviews on the web, which IMO goes to show that web reviews are worth exactly what you pay for them. The driver had just about the smallest magnet I've seen on a 15, but hey, everyone wants lightweight, so that's what they get.

TC Electronic RH450 Knobs and buttons
stevie replied to blunderthumbs's topic in Repairs and Technical
The buttons on those amps are a known problem. What is it with customer service nowadays? Sometimes email is a waste of time - it's just too easy to bin. You can find the name of the product manager on their website. Phone him. Or talk to your retailer (?) -

Yes, if the guy from Barefaced catches this he will definitely help. He's pretty good like that. -
Nothing at all wrong with the feet.
They may be all right now, but if you're going to do the handle you might as well do the feet - it's not much extra work if you have the driver out. It's up to you, of course. -
Barefaced Compact Gen2 Handle Problem
stevie replied to martthebass's topic in Repairs and Technical
According to EU regs, I don't think it makes any difference whether you bought it used or not. However, if you're happy to fix it yourself, the solution is to replace the woodscrews in the handle with machine screws and t-nuts. Do the same with the feet. Have a look on the Blue Aran site for the bits and pieces, or check with your local wood merchant or Screwfix. You might like to consider fitting larger feet and a proper handle, but that's up to you - Blue Aran do a nice one (same as the Marshall one) but I don't know whether the holes from the old one will show. -
Barefaced Compact Gen2 Handle Problem

The screws are too short. They work loose and the feet come off. I believe it's been sorted in the latest models. There have been a couple of threads about it in the Amps and Cabs section. -
Barefaced Compact Gen2 Handle Problem
stevie replied to martthebass's topic in Repairs and Technical
It's a manufacturing defect. As the manufacturer and retailer, Barefaced should collect it from you, fix it and return it to you at no cost. Good luck with that. As you are a mod and have raised subject on the public forum that drives their business, you have a better chance than most of getting it fixed. It's not too difficult to sort as a DIY project but you shouldn't really have to, and you will invalidate any warranty you may have (it's on their website) if you try. Get them to sort the feet while they're at it. Have you phoned them? -
Oh sorry, yup, "They are really loud. Loud enough to know a sparrow off a fence at two hundred metres (don't ask!). Especially compared with that Ampeg muck. Who'd have one of those when they could have a Barefaced? Idiots and morons. Sh*t! I mean, the Ampegs are sh*t, not Barefaced. They are wonderful with a capital 'w'. Loud and lightweight. Ooh, alliteration. I'm a poet. "
Ah yes, but it mentions the word "Barefaced" in the thread title, so all the usual suspects pop in to make their usual comments and digs about BF cabs, BF owners and BF management. It is all getting rather tedious.
As Wayne said, people generally don't criticise Barefaced on here much. Probably because of the aggressive responses they receive - as we see in this thread. "I waited five months, paid in full, and a month later couldn't even elicit an email from the company!" "Don't worry son, they'll turn up eventually. And when they do, they'll sound amazing. Did I mention they were lightweight? Oh, yes." "If you want a Michelin starred meal, you must be prepared to pay in advance and wait a month. Didn't you know that? Maybe you should have gone to McDonalds instead. Ho, ho. Lightweight. Light as a feather they are. I'll come back later and patronise you some more, OK?" "You should be grateful you're being allowed to buy them. I have my bass on my back, my Barefaced in one hand, and my walking stick in the other. Hey ho!" "What do you mean, the feet fall off? May your dick fall off and your balls shrivel up, you horrible piece of sh*t." "I have a SuperDuper 12 and I'm loving it. I go to bed with it and give it a good seeing-to every night. Have I posted a picture of it in my living room? I have? Several times? Oops." "What do you mean, you sent the money and haven't heard from them since. They're craftsmen, they are. And craftsmen should be allowed to craft and not be bothered with things like writing emails. Do you know that they are lightweight? Well, they are - so there!" "I waited patiently for five years for mine - and bloody hell, it was worth it!! You can knock a candle out at ten paces with these buggers. Pity I gave up playing in the time being, but my god, they're lightweight. Lightweight I tell you" "Sorry, I'm not having that. What do you mean UNPROFESSIONAL. I challenge you to a duel with pistols, sir. How DARE you!!" "My pal Alex was professional when I ordered my cab. So you are WRONG!" "Barefaced should put the prices up. I mean, £30 for carriage - that's too cheap. It should be £100." "I can't be doing with a cab that weighs 40kg. I mean, my back would give out if I just looked at one of those. Give me a B, give me an A, give me a, errrr..... what's after A?? Anyway, they're as light as a feather, and that's all that matters. End of."

No problem. I'd be happy to do that.

Geoff, I'm not sure how much interest there is for DIY PA cabs on here - not much I suspect. Unfortunately, I don't have the time to do the kind of reportage with photos that others have done, but I'll post a few measurements when I'm done that might be of interest to one or two people.
Irrespective of what they sound like they weight 40KG so why it would even get a mentioned in a thread related to specialist lightweight gear is a mystery to me.
Actually, this thread was about extended delivery delays, broken delivery promises and poor customer service, not about cabinet weight.
I'm not sure where the practical limit sits, but conceptually I favour stiff and as light as possible, to maximise sonic efficiency and reach a point where the resonances are at a high enough frequency that first there is a lot less overall energy to excite them and second damping becomes more effective.
Looks like someone has resurrected this old thread. Stiff, light and heavily damped is a valid approach (no doubt you're thinking of the Celestion SL600 here) that certainly works well for mid frequencies. I think that at bass frequencies, the best approach is as much mass as possible, although brick and concrete don't make for very portable cabs.
Stevie, I'd be very interested to hear more about your K12-alikes. I'm a big fan of those speakers, on another thread a while back I speculated that the moulded cabs sound decent (IMO) because the Q of the material is lower than eg wood - but that alone won't compensate for the loss of efficiency and so I'd guess that the wood ones sound 'tighter' and measure louder. I've also been building some PA cabs, using 9mm birch ply and quite extensive shelf and column bracing. I hope that these will still be pretty stiff (I couldn't lift them if they were 18mm birch! I want to try birch-faced poplar or similar), will get to the point of testing in a couple of weeks.
I have a pair of Celestion TN1230 12- inch drivers (same as in the K12s) and a pair of CDX1-1731 compression drivers (superior model to the one used in the K12s) on P.Audio Nexo-copy horns. The cab is quite compact - about 20 litres - and is made from half inch ply with three-quarter ply for the baffle. Crossover is 1.6/kHz L/R 4th order. The Celestion 12s are very impressive. They go to 2kHz before break-up and are ruler-flat in their passband. The whole system measures plus/minus 1db from 200 to 18kHz, something that I don't think was possible even 10 years ago from mid-market speakers. Somebody at Celestion knows what they're doing. 90 percent of the design work is in the crossover and I'm building that now. I expect they'll be done for Christmas.

Interesting. Nice build quality. The drivers look like PR300s, in which case the FH500s will be usefully louder at the bottom end. However, as Pete and co. rightly say, the problem may well lie elsewhere.

I was suggesting an alternative to buying a 2 x 15 or adding another cab. It's not really clear to me what the actual problem is. I doubt if any of the Genz cabs are loaded with the 12fh500.
