It's Saturday night, I'm bored and saw this thread then I realised how many names you could have for a Yes cover band, not taking the p*ss but yeah, probably a pointless post, my apology's.
I thought your post was quite amusing, in a Saturday-night-I'm-bored-but-what-the-hell sort of way. Given the creative names tribute bands tend to come up with nowadays, Fragile is pretty lame. I think I paid about a tenner to see the real Yes, and went out for dinner with them afterwards.
  2.
This song had me bouncing around in my car 07.45 in the morning on the way to work.
All of ELO's songs have that effect on me.
  3. Bought an amp from Gav - my most expensive gear purchase ever! He was very helpful and got it to me in double quick time, very well packed. He's a credit to Basschat. He sounds like a good laugh, too :-)
  4.
Sorry I realise this has probably been asked thousands of times
You're right about that. Have a look at the pinned topics at the top of this section. Impedance is the one you want.
  5. Nik bought a TC Electronics preamp from me last year and I forgot to leave his feedback - oops! It was a very straightforward and pleasant transaction and I'd be happy to do business again.
  6. Sold a cab to Shep, which arrived with a damaged driver. He was very patient and understanding as I did my best to sort everything out. We stayed in touch until the problem was fixed to everyone's satisfaction. A top bloke, very helpful and a pleasure to do business with.
  7. What a great bloke and a credit to Basschat! Steve had a speaker chassis going spare and was kind enough to offer it to me for free. Not only that, but he wouldn't even consider letting me pay the postage. If you are lucky enough to do business with Steve, you can expect an honest, straightforward deal.
  8.
There is very good cone travel but when I have tried to get any response from the speaker whilst out of the cab ..don't have a multi-meter to hand..so have concocted a speaker terminal connection, there is nothing. So I suspect that the speaker has failed from a thermal failure as Alex suggested.
Thermal failure from overload would normally cause the voice coil to expand, which would make itself felt as a scraping noise when you move the cone in and out by hand. You can tell for sure if a speaker has been overdriven by looking at the old coil when you recone it. If there is no scraping, there is a good chance that a wire or soldered joint has failed. It could well be worth having a chat with the distributor and sending the faulty driver back for replacement under warranty.
  9. And while you're at it, you might like to check what the German VAT rate is.
  10.
VAT is calculated based on the delivery adress, that's European law.
Perhaps you would be so kind as to quote that European law in that case.
  11.
....Stevie. I think you need to get your priorities right....Bahamas Schpamas! Let's face it where else would you get the opportunity to hear a drum'n'bass'n'uilleannpipes improv jam?? answer that and stay fashionable Neil!
Of course, you're quite right - what was I thinking? I'll arrange for the yacht to be put into dry dock in June.
  12.
30 days from delivery.
Are you quite sure about that?
  13. Looks like we got ourselves a convoy!
Yep - had one for 25 years - bought new in 1984 for over £400!
I think that would make it about the same price as a US Fender Precision/Jazz.

    Battery life?
Most 'modulation' or 'digital modelling' pedals eat batteries like no tomorrow - my Digitech BSW ratings plate told me that I'd need a 300mA power supply - about an hour from a good fresh 9v PP3
Yup. A Boss digital delay will last about an hour on a PP9. But 5 minutes seems ridiculous.
  16. As long as it doesn't coincide with my fortnight in the Bahamas, I'll be there. Promise.
  17.
It's an EU distance selling regulation thing
I thought that was seven days, not thirty.
  18.
They offer a no questions asked 30 day money back guarantee and it wont cost you anything to return the goods.
Other music shops in Germany do that too. I wonder if it's a German thing.
  19.
On the 'UK' Thomann site you get charged UK VAT rate. I think the rate is actually fixed by the delivery address not the site location.
That's a bit odd. VAT should be charged at the supplying country's rate. Unless you are being billed by a subsidiary they have set up here, which is what my printer ink supplier does.
  20.
There is some agreement now though so that doesn't happen.
I did a little research after posting that and realized I was out of date. Seems a couple of you were busy scribbling replies as I was deleting my post
Anyone got any more experience of the 1100s? I'm quite taken by it
I paid £150 for mine on eBay a couple of years ago. At that price, you can afford to tinker with it, although I do believe it was quite an expensive bass when it was new (mid-1980s). When I bought it, I also had a very early Fender JV Precision and the tone was comparable. I sold the Fender because I preferred the neck on the Yammy (and was facing a large dental bill). I measured the pickups and found they were both underwound. So I put some vintage Duncans in there and that produced an even fatter sound. I've really never seen the point of a rear Jazz pickup - it always sounds so anemic. The best Jazz pickup sound I got was with a Duncan 1/4 pounder, but even then it was only useful if you wanted to sound like Jaco. So I bit the bullet and replaced the Jazz pickup with a Duncan alnico MM humbucker. Wow! (shades of Pingray) Now I can choose between a thuddy P-Bass tone and a growly Stingray tone and anything in between. I'm currently messing with a Delano MM pickup just out of interest. I haven't touched the active circuitry because, as far as I'm concerned, it's completely transparent and I find replacement preamps a complete rip-off. It's 3-band, ultra-quiet and can be switched out - what more do you want? The pots are high quality and the cavities are properly screened with aluminium and copper foil. It was originally uncomfortably neck heavy, but a set of of lightweight tuners sorted that, and it's now nicely balanced. I tried a few different bridges and ended up with a Gotoh, although I couldn't swear that made any real difference to the sound of the bass (although it might have). I'd still prefer a lighter bass (at around 4kg with the Hipshot Ultralites, it's about average), but I think I'd have to move into rarified territory to improve on the sound or feel of the bass now.

  23. Price drop shocker???? You really should stop reading the Daily Record
  24.
There's also the Green Label Celestion BL15-300X out there but I'd only be running a 150 watt head through it. Would a 300 watt driver be worth considering as a replacement or would that be too much of a strain on a 150 head?
The power handling of speakers has gone up since your 200W Celestion was built. Thanks to improved adhesives, voice coil materials and cooling techniques, it's a lot easier to make a 300W speaker than it used to be. In fact, it's quite a good idea to have a speaker that will handle more than the rated output of your amp. It won't put a strain on your amp - it doesn't work that way. A 300W speaker will be just fine.
