Now that I have my pre-amp/power amp combo and rack (thanks Beedster!), my faithful Trace Elliot AH-200 is up for sale. This is the Mk VI which, I am given to believe, is the preferred version of these amps. I've taken this description from the Harmony reviews website, where you will find lots of very positive reviews about this amp: http://reviews.harmony-central.com/reviews...ies+6+Head/10/1 “- 200W but seems more like 500W - Can be racked - Two speaker outs with speaker protection fuse - Switchable 12-band graphic that is extremely flexible and goes down to 30Hz making it suitable for use with low B strung 5-string basses. - Mid pre-shape switchable EQ preset which really makes the sound really rock - suits my Rickenbacker so well I don't need to use the EQ. - 2-channel (active & passive) but not switchable and only a single gain for both channels. - Has 1 effects loop and line level input/outputs for slaving (pre amp out & power amp in) - Built in DI which can be switched between pre and post EQ - this is not some half arsed DI connection like a lot of amps have - this beats my tube (valve) DB DI box hands down.” The great thing about this head is the weight! It’s about 9kg, and very easy to carry - *much* lighter than the 300W version even though it is nearly as powerful. It’s convection cooled via a massive aluminium heatsink on the back – so no fans to go wrong. The foot switch is included as are the ears for rack mounting. It’s in good condition apart from a slight bend in the corner of the heat sink on the rear, which does not affect the operation of the amp in any way. All knobs and buttons are present and correct and working well. I’ll throw in the Trace fitted shoulder bag, which has, a dickey zip, and a matching carrying case, which has a small bash in it but works fine otherwise. The folding stuff is preferred, but I could also be interested in some lightweight tuners (1/2") or an OPL bass.

Or something like this: -

In theory, that's a good match. You will also be able to connect a second 8-ohm cab and get more power should you wish to do so.
Now i guess I'll have to research what the vintage cab design should be that these speakers ought to be fitted in ! Ah well . . . . . Anyone got any ideas ?
A used Fender Bassman cab would be nice. Or build your own. The Fender grill cloth is available on eBay. I know you can use the K140 in cabinets as small as 70-litres. Here's one example: http://www.humblehomemadehifi.com/Bass-Rig.html. You'll have to email the guy for dimensions, as they are not clear from the drawings. -

Vintage JBL D140F 15" Drivers - Info wanted ?
stevie replied to Nostromo's topic in Repairs and Technical
They were bass guitar drivers, although I believe they worked with guitar too. If they sound anything like the later K140, to which they are closely related, I'm sure you'll like them. However, because of their vintage, power handling is a bit limited. I think they were (perhaps rather conservatively) rated at 75W rms. Give 'em a try. You too can build an original Sunn 2 x 15"! Some interesting info here: http://bassoutpost.com/index.php?topic=2555.0 -
Yeah I know. The fourth is being used in a little 1x10 cab I made. Why? Would you be interested in all four?
I'm afraid not, Karl, but you'd be more likely to sell them in pairs. At least people now know that they could possibly negotiate for four.

This is a brand new OEM version of this fantastic PCI soundcard. (When I say new, I mean I bought it new, I have never used it, and it looks like new). Complete with cable. The full specs are on the website: http://www.m-audio.com/products/en_us/Audiophile2496.html 24-bit/96kHz 2 x 2 full-duplex audio performance gold-plated RCA jacks S/PDIF digital I/O with PCM and AC-3/DTS passthrough 1 x 1 MIDI I/O How does it sound? In a word, stunning. This has to be one of the best sounding cards we’ve had in for review…” - Computer Music. £25 to Basschatters, which is less than half the best price I could find on the web. I reckon £3 will cover 1st class post and insurance.
I have had my Trace Series 6 AH200 GP12 Head for years now. I usually use the 12 band graphic to get my sound, but have recently gone to the mid pre-shape which sounds the dogs dangly bits with my 2 band MM stingray 4. So, do you use the mid pre-shape or graphic? If the graphic (7 or 12 band) then what eq settings.
The pre-shape is too much for me: it gives me too much bass and too much top. I just set a slight smile on the graphic centred at 600 Hz (or thereabouts), which gives me something similar but not quite as extreme. It all depends on your speakers and your bass though - and the sound you're looking for.

As I took some photos the other day, I thought I'd offer these speakers just in case anyone needs some cheap 10-inch drivers. They are UK-built by HH. 60 watts, 16-ohms and designed for bass guitar. A pair will give you 8 ohms. They work perfectly are are in good condition. Vented voice coil. Not too heavy at around 2 - 2.5kg (my guess). Don't be put off by the rated power handling. Most 10s won't handle much more than 60-watts of bass no matter what their power rating. Although HH did make some of their own drive units, these look very much like Celestion units to me. £15 for the pair with collection from Dorchester welcomed or delivery at cost. I hope they can provide someone with a quick and cheap fix.
Ditto, wonderful bass at a great price.
Why hasn't this gone? With a set of Duncans and what looks like an uprated bridge, this will turn into a tone monster when you put a set of TI flats on it. I should know - that's what I play! It eats most Precisions for breakfast.
Thanks for that, but I think the lack of interest is due to this place being mainly used for selling vintage and just downright sexy basses. This is no place for a simple RBX!
Dunno about that. Perhaps you just need to be patient and keep bumping. Christmas is coming, and at that price, it's ideal for a beginner.
What was the exception you had in mind Stevie?
I was thinking of the LAB12 woofer that Eminence built (and still builds) for Tom Danley's Lab horn, which was more advanced in certain respects than the drivers Eminence was making at the time. It has an xmax of 13mm, for example.
Please do not remove the earth connection from a mains plug for any reason.
I'm typing this message from a bed in the A and E department of the local hospital. Fortunately, the ambulance arrived quickly and had a cardiopulmonary resuscitator on board. As I am finding it difficult to stop my typing fingers shaking, I might not be posting for a while. However, I will be happy to read and try out more of your ideas when I get back home.
Also what's the most you would pay for this in it's current condition?
About 5p. The saddle looks simple enough to have fabricated by a workshop.

OK, thanks guys, I appreciate the help. I looked at the Guitar Nuts site, 7 string, which is excellent, but doesn't give me the very specific answer I need. The two units are plugged into the same power socket, by the way, BOD. I moved the Behringer away from the Trace - no difference. I plugged my battery-powered compressor between the Behringer output and the Trace - no difference. However, if I plug the Behringer into the standard bass guitar input on the Trace (rather than the power amp section input), the buzzing is still there, but at a *much* lower level. With the master volume (power amp volume) at zero, I can turn the preamp volume up full and the the buzzing stays the same. It only increases when I turned the master volume up. When I get around to doing it, I'll be using the balanced out into a separate power amp anyway. I would like to know what the devil is going on here.
There are no OEM 'super drivers' with specs that can't be very nearly duplicated with an off the shelf unit.
This goes to the heart of the matter. No bass cabinet manufacturer goes to his speaker supplier and says ' I want something that is better than your top of the range speaker'. They are all, to a large extent, box stuffers, and want to hide the fact that they are just sticking a very average driver in a box and charging a lot of money for it. They will, however, ask their speaker supplier if it's possible to reduce the price by a few dollars (hence the lack of push terminals mentioned earlier). I can think of one exception, but that probably proves the rule, as they say. The only cabinet manufacturer who seems to be open about what he fits is our own Alex, but he is one of the few bass cabinet builders fitting premium quality drivers. The smaller driver manufacturers are a lot more flexible as far as custom drivers are concerned, but even here, there are limits.
