Great bass player and all round musician there are some good bass lines in Chas and Dave songs.
Most definitely!

I can't help then in that case. A completely dead speaker is an open circuit of some kind. I'd check the continuity from the input panel to the speaker and also the lead-out wires that go from the connection lugs to the cone - just in case. If it's not that, the break is in the coil, which is hidden and therefore terminal. You've got a bump though.
Can anyone tell me how the 80s ones compare to the current reissues? Heavier? Different sound? I love my new BB614 so interested to know the difference.
I was able to compare my 1980s BB to a very early JV Precision (now sold) and I didn't prefer one over the other sound-wise. The Yamaha is slightly lighter than the Fender but I wouldn't call it a lightweight bass. No idea how they compare with the new ones though.

Just an advanced warning that my BB1100S will be up for sale shortly - as soon as I've taken some photos.

A polite message to the seller is not going to do any harm, is it? Just ask for a progress report on your order, as you have heard nothing so far. However, you should have received an automatic email from eBay right after "winning" (ho ho ho) the auction. The good sellers make contact within 24 hours but many others don't bother.
Sent Ashdown an email, still waiting for a response, so in the meantime I still have this bass available for a swap for a replacement speaker.
Do you get a kind of a 'fuzz box' sound when you play through the speaker? I might have the solution.
I have inherited a set of JBL eon passive speakers, problem is one of them is making a loud buzzing noise when connected to PA. I think the PA amp may have caused the problem as that has been blown as well. As I said I inherited this system so I knew it's condition before I had it. I would like to fix this as when working it does sound great. Any help would be greatly appreciated Ta very glad Dale
More detail needed. What do you mean 'when connected to the PA'? When playing music through the PA or not? Have you tried the speakers on different amp channels?

Sounds like an interesting project. It's funny how British singers just can't get a handle on the accent. It never sounds right and can be quite excruciating sometimes. Not for me - I'm too far away - but good luck with it.

Found the answer. They don't fit the tape anymore. It's therefore a recent model.

Westone bass guitars - what do people think of them?
stevie replied to CathalOC's topic in Bass Guitars
Hello everyone
See, Cathal? The wealth of knowledge and experience on here is sometimes quite astonishing. Stick around and maybe you can contribute your own particular brand of special expertise for the common good. -
I still like the hoof in the nuts idea.
The seller is from Liverpool. He might have mates......
Ahh, the mystery deepens. So what's the rest of the story, and when do we get to know the results of this psychological conundrum?
Well, it''s not really a mystery, but the guy started lying, and when I pulled him up on what he had said, he started to tie himself up in knots with each email he sent. I tried to give him the option of doing the decent thing (he could have sent me another item, because he had more, although I had bought a used one and he only had new ones left), as I don't like leaving negative feedback without very good reason - I've only done it once. He never actually admitted he hadn't sent the goods off, and I suppose I will never actually know 100%. He could just have been a twat. I wondered what everyone's experience was with this kind of situation, that was all. The vote was pretty unanimous. I'll be leaving him negative feedback so that others can benefit from my experience.

Westone bass guitars - what do people think of them?
stevie replied to CathalOC's topic in Bass Guitars
I remember Westone as a cheap and cheerful range of instruments of Far Eastern origin. A notch below the usual Japanese names. It doesn't sound like a good deal to me, but it's not my money. The proper experts will be along soon. -
I've just bought a used Nordstrand Musicman humbucker but it doesn't have any markings and there is no copper tape on the back like the pictures I've seen. It is in a clear, rectangular plastic box with no labels or instructions. It does look like the Nordstand, apart from the copper tape, but I've only ever seen photos. Could this be an earlier version?
Of course the seller is telling you a bunch of crap. Leave negative feedback.
I'm pleased you all agree with me, even though you only know part of the story.
I borrowed one a while ago for a dep gig, sounded nice but i didn't like the feel of the bass. I thought that there wasn't enough clearance between the body and the strings to allow me to dig in like on a proper Ray. Still i think the owner paid about £100 for so it was a steal, the citcuit was decent enough
Thanks, Lemmy. Interesting.

I thought I got a 99p bargain last week. The actual item is probably worth £20 but the seller made a mistake in his listing and I was the only bidder. The seller claims he sent it off but it has not arrived here - the first time anything has got lost in the post for as long as I can remember. To cut a long story short, he has refunded, but I think he was unhappy with the 99p and didn't want to sell at that price. Unsurprisingly, he says he sent it off by post without getting an itemized receipt or proof of delivery. He has over 1,000 transactions to his name - so he should know the ropes. I'm not bothered about the item but this is a bit of a psychological whodunnit. Do you think my seller genuine or a crook? Opinions please.
Sometimes when a HF driver blows it can be fixed quite easily. if the driver is blown at the start of the coil take a few windings off and re solder. Not always possible but worth a try. I don’t thing peavey replacements are all that expensive.
That's a useful tip - I'd never have thought of doing that.
-
I wouldn't if I were you. The best way of getting some more high frequencies from the bass driver would be to connect it directly to the input, making sure the crossover is out of circuit. Doing this will make a difference only if the crossover is actually cutting the high frequency end of the bass driver, which may or may not be the case. It might also make the sound a bit 'middy'.
I have the EST96 (active Ray copy) - its really quite good and the only thing I'd change is the pickup, which is a bit weak. Not sure what model to change it to though. My Jazz is actually louder.
I have the passive one with maple neck and Wilkinson pickup. It is more powerful than a SD Quarter Pounder.
