***SOLD*** Off to Germany for £422.
The euro has spoken. -

Thank you. That's much better.
I had the AH150 (series 6?) head years ago and it developed a bad but hard to find hum after two or three years. Trace took it back and fixed for nothing (including carrier) because they knew what the fault was - the plastic connector block between the pre/power amp shrunk with heat/age and pulled the wires a bit. I never looked inside, but that was what they told me, and I never had a problem with it again (another two years before I went SWR). Sounds like a tech job - good luck!
Interesting, thanks. I'll check that out when I look inside again.

Could one of the moderators please sort out the spelling of the header, for crying out loud?
Well having worked for their Pro division for a number of years, there was always talk of introducing low cost instrument cabs and amps.... perhaps this is it.... Expect to see some half decent product at decent prices!!
Agreed. Did you know Steve Hewlett during your time there, Crez? Anyway, he was the head designer at Fane for many years before (eventually) becoming technical director for IAG. Lovely fellow. He is a power speaker man (from the south west in fact) - so it is hardly surprising that IAG is now producing sound reinforcement products. I'm looking forward to seeing what they have to offer.
Thanks Stevie - does your bass have a RW board & tort guard?
No, it's a maple neck and white scratchplate. Get's confusing, doesn't it? It's here: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=33591 The photo shows the knobs quite clearly. -
Why on earth in A flat? I haven't tried this (yet), but surely A, with those lovely open strings, would have been easier.

I've had a 1982 '57 JV from new and the knobs are rounded, not flat. For what it's worth. -
Good work! I'm hoping to have my self-build 1x15 cab in a position to be fired up with the LH500 tomorrow - can't wait as it should sound perfect (for me!)...
Are you going to post details of your self-build? There's always lots of interest on here, as you know.
Does anyone have any advice/experience with these speakers?
Yes, I've used lots of them. They are very reliable, very consistent, and very good sounding, although a bit pricey at full retail. For bass guitar I'd recommend the BM251.3. It needs an enclosure of 30 litres, or 60 litres for a 2x10. It will spank just about anything else you'd like to mention. It has a genuine 5mm xmax, a low resonant frequency and a very smooth response up to around 5kHz. Not cheap, though, and you don't see many second hand ones. Their standard steel frame drivers sound good, but won't handle huge amounts of bass.

This and all of the videos on your site take at least one minute to start playing. I gave up, sorry.

I've just bought a Trace AH200 head from the bay, which has a mains hum/buzz that I'd like to try and fix, with your help. It is not coming from the bass, as the buzzing is there whether the bass is plugged in or not. It sounds very much like a transformer buzz or a single coil pickup buzz at 50/100Hz. It is present all the time and is not affected by either of the volume controls or the graphic equalizer. It appears on the headphone out and on the DI out. The mains transformer itself does not buzz physically. The level is such that it's a bit annoying in a domestic environment, and would be unacceptable in a studio, but it is not really a problem live. I've tried to trace the problem by plugging another head into the same wall socket, and have found that it does not have the same problem. Unfortunately, I have no idea how to unplug the umbilical cord between the pre and power amps, or I could be a bit more specific about the source of the problem. I have discovered, however, that there are three electrolytic caps at a late stage in the preamp that give off a loud hum when I touch the cans with an insulated screwdriver - which I find a bit odd. To get to the solder side of the PCB, I assume that I have to remove the two volume knobs, the graphic caps, and the jack socket nuts - or have I missed something? I'm handy with a soldering iron and have a good multimeter, but have no knowledge of amplifier electronics to speak of. I'm hoping that this is a common fault and that someone can point me in the right direction. If I can't fix it myself I'll just live with it, at least for now.

I wasn't suggesting you'd find them in Madonna's sound system at Wembley, Crez.
Thanks for the offer ahpook. I'm not too attached to teh samson, but i'm trying to leave behringer stuff alone for the moment (no offence).
I gather from professional PA types that Samson is of comparable quality to Amstrad. Tha Behringer power amps, on the other hand, enjoy a surprisingly good reputation in pro circles.

This is what I think is the problem - FWIW. It sounds like you have a steep filter on the overall mix that is cutting everything below 100Hz. I pushed 20Hz and 75Hz up 12dB on my soundcard's graphic equalizer and it sounded a lot better, although I needed to pull 135Hz down to get rid of the boominess. My eq is a bit limited in choice of frequencies - I'm sure you have more. Adding more level below 100Hz also helps the bass drum no end. The tonality of your bass as it stands is not very different to that of the guitar. So the only time you can really hear the bass is when the guitar stops. I can see why just boosting the level of the bass wouldn't work. You need to separate the two instruments by giving them their own distinct frequency band. You might also like to try cutting some of the bottom end from the guitar to see how that sounds. It could be that your monitoring equipment is not telling you what is happening below 100Hz, but that's where the problem seems to be.

That first track is knockout! However..... it's all guitar. The bass is much too far back in the mix and the drums sounds really toytown, especially the bass drum. Did the guitarist mix this?
another one bites the dust
They bit the dust quite a long time ago and were bought by a company from Hong Kong. Most, if not all, of their production is in China nowadays, although the product is British designed. You'll look long and hard to find a company making drivers in the UK that is British owned. I can name four, and they are all small.
all i done was try to raise the pickup cause the e string was too quiet compared to the other strings and the top of the pickup came away,
At the risk of stating the obvious, you should not be able to damage your pickup simply by adjusting its height. I'm at a bit of a loss to understand exactly what happened, but there's something wrong somewhere. It might be an idea to show your bass to someone who knows what he's doing, or maybe post a close up photo or two on here. How do you know the same thing is not going to happen with the new pickup?
As long as the coil wires themselves are not damaged this should be a very routine op, but I'm not sure what you mean wne you say "the top of the pickup came away". If you mean the coil bobbin base then that's a bit of a problem... I'm not sure I agree with Stevie that vintage style pickups are "unfit for purpose" although he's right that there is a lot of nonsense talked about "vintage" stuff. In my experience older is not necessarily better but a pickup coil is inherently fragile whichever way you make it. As long as people don't go poking them with screwdrivers they have a high survival rate and are easy to fix when they die...
Do you know a way to get to the inside wire of the coil if it has snapped off and disappeared under the bobbin? I'd be interested to know if you do. My problem with vintage style pickups is that they are, as you say, inherently fragile. So there should be some means of protecting the wire, even if it's only tape - or the cover should be fixed. Strict vintage specifications preclude this, however. I have more of an issue with the way the leadout wires on vintage-style pickups are basically connected to a blob of solder on an eyelet. Move the leadout wire slightly and the bobbin wire snaps. More modern pickups have improved on this, of course, but the vintage-style ones have to be true to the original design, which is not brilliant.

has anyone used a Bose L1 Model 2 System With B1 Bin.
