  1. You might consider putting some sealing foam where the Speakon mates with the cabinet.
  2. Most hi-fi speakers aim for a flat response, because research shows that this is what customers actually prefer. It is true that they don't always achieve it. The boom - tizz brigade that you describe is something else.
  3. That is plain wrong. You can have certainly have flat response, full range and high efficiency.
  4. No. That's not how to fix the problem at all. Particularly with small, high power cabinets, you can't just increase the port area willy-nilly because you soon run into problems with port length. The best solution is to reduce the wall area of the ports. That means, ideally, a single round port. The only bass guitar cab designer who seems to understand the importance of this is David Nordschow.
  5. No need to apologise, Pea. 😛
  6. Très bien, Jacques.
  7. I've given some thought on how to do the flat packs. To cut the assembly time, the panels need be machined so that they slot together with a minimum of effort and tools. That would make it quite a fun project, with most of the work being in fitting the t-nuts, corners and handles, and painting the box. I'll be publishing a crossover layout on here for those who want to build the two-way and could easily supply a kit of parts. You would need to be able to solder though. Could be interesting.
  8. This isn't really a music video; it's a YouTube video. It's a one-take video like Kylie's - except the music is much better. 🙂 video; it's a YouTube video. It's a one-take video like Kylie's - except the music is much better. 🙂
  9. I'll be resuming this thread in a couple of weeks, Peter - with plenty of piccies.
  10. I haven't given up on the flatpack idea entirely, Jack and I still have one or two avenues to explore. But let's get the final design up first. I also need to contact Marco (Ghost_Bass) to see if he can finalise the drawings. I haven't seen him around for a while.
  11. The problem isn't with the Celestion driver itself; it's just that it's been crammed into too small a box. I had the 15" version of this cab and I'm pretty sure the internal volume was 50 litres. So you need to find an 8" driver that will perform well in a volume of around 12 litres.
  12. I know there hasn't been much activity on this thread recently, although there have been a few references to it in other threads. As previously explained, the next stage here is a lightweight design using neo drivers. As an interim step, I've just revised Chienmort's Beyma system by swapping out his Celestion ceramic compression driver for a neo one. The sound hasn't really changed, but we've saved about 1.5kg thanks to the new compression driver and simplified crossover. Phil asked me how it measures, and the easiest way of showing him is to post the measurement here. So..... I've been able to compare this cab with my own version fitted with the Faital Pro 12PR320 (and the same compression driver) and the Faital Pro cab is noticeably better in a number of areas. I'm therefore not going to publish any details of this interim system, but will go straight to the Faital Pro system once I have revisited the crossover to see if I can't make it a bit simpler. As you can see from the frequency response curve, this design is as FRFR as you like.
  13. The LaVoce bass guitar driver looks quite good. I find it more useful nowadays to judge excursion based on the coil length rather than xmax because of the complication of gap height. The LaVoce measures 18.5mm, which is pretty good and fairly close to the drivers used in more expensive bass guitar cabs. The Beyma you mentioned measures 20mm, which is slightly more than most.

Don just bought a compressor from me. He was very easy to deal with and I'd happily sell to (or buy from) him again. Thanks!
  15. Hi Aran, Sorry, but it was sold a couple of hours ago. Twice in fact, as it also sold on eBay (which I had to cancel). I've now amended the header. I know they're not very common, but keep looking for one. It really is a superb compressor.
  16. I think the OP was hoping that someone with a Glockenklang cab who has added a second could advise. You should really audition any cabinet you are thinking of buying. All I would say is use the Glockenklang on top and don't buy a second cab with a tweeter, because you'll get cancellation. And don't change your amp yet. A second cab will give you a useful volume boost and you're better off making just one change at a time (in search of your "tone"). 🤩
  17. This is currently the cheapest Tonehammer 500 on offer here. It is *mint* and comes with the official Aguilar bag worth £50 - 60 - and a cheap delivery deal. I'll even take a cheap lightweight head in p/ex.
  18. This is true. You also don't want massive monitors if you're playing pubs. I use the Wharfedale Titan 8s. They're dinky and plenty loud enough.
  19. Good point.
  20. Craaft are a well-estabished company based in Bavaria.I don't think they're involved in bass guitar cabs any more, but they manufacture quite a wide range of PA cabs. Last time I looked, they were the only German company making their own sound reinforcement drivers, and these were high quality. I think there's every chance this is a seriously good 4 x 10" cabinet, although whether it's worth the asking price is a matter for the buyer to decide.
  21. Nobody complains louder about cab manufacturers' specs that me, but by and large their published power ratings seem to be on the level. They're provided with the power handling figures by the driver manufacturers and any attempt to fudge them would be tantamount to lying to their customers. As far as I can tell, there are very few commercial cab makers who feel they have to resort to that. Frequency response and sensitivity - now that's a different matter.😀
  22. I can't believe I'm having to reduce the price again. This is a beautifully made, top quality compressor with lots of features and a great sound. I had a Boss compressor prior to this one and the difference was night and day. Now £60.
  23. Yes, you're absolutely right. Only a few months ago, TH500s were being snapped up for £500 - and that's without the bag. There seem to be a lot of bargains at the moment. I suppose people are paying off the credit card after their holidays.🙂
  24. A genuine Trace Elliot replacement. These don't come up very often.
  25. It would be good if bass amp makers fitted a high pass filter as a matter of course. It would only cost them pennies. I know some do, but none of them provides that information as far as I know.
