  1. Thanks, funky. Yes, this is a real high-end device with great punch and clarity. My favourite setting was in fact the mid mode.
  2. In response to questions, I'd expect insured delivery to be about £10.
  3. Here is a pair of working 1" compression drivers. I'm not sure what make they are, although they look like P.Audio. 8 ohm, standard screw-in connection, not that heavy (maybe 1kg each). £5 for the pair. Can post at cost.
  4. This is one for experimenters. I used this JBL cab for trying out different 12"drivers, but it now has to go as part of a general workshop clearout. It's a very sturdy, lightweight cab made out of polystyrene structural foam. It contains the JBL 2416h horn, the crossover (which I'm pretty sure is working), and the grille. Speakon and jack inputs. No bass driver of course. Just fit your own 12" driver and you have a lightweight bass guitar cab. Or stick a compression driver in there, connect to the crossover, and you have a full range system. It was a bit difficult photographing the cab without a driver in. The grille isn't normally as see-through as that. It's well used, but looks the part. £10. You'd pay that much for the badge alone on eBay. Pickup is preferred but I could ship at cost.
  5. Can we have a look at the business end to see what it is?
  6. Shame that we can't retrofit the new case, but the main thing is that the amp is fundamentally the same - only lighter.
  7. Thanks for the speedy response. I think that's a very good move. Now that I have your attention, Mr Ashdown ..... Would it be possible to buy and retrofit the aluminium chassis?
  8. This Behringer Ultracurve Pro was suffering from the dreaded fried-eggs noise before I detached the ribbon cable - replacing the ribbon cable is known to fix this fault. The unit was working perfectly otherwise. Unfortunately, I find that I don't have the time or the soldering skills to replace the cable with the new one that I obtained (and which is included). These sell new for £220. I'm sure there are plenty of handy people here who could fix this, and it should be worth their while as I'm only asking £20. Can deliver at cost.
  9. The new one seems to be over 2kg lighter but they don't actually say how they've done that.
  10. What needs to be said about the Aguilar TH500 that you don't already know? This one is in excellent condition (virtually as new) and comes complete with the Aguilar gigbag. £450. The two trades I'd consider would be a very cheap lightweight amp offered in part-ex. or a deal with an Ibanez Premium 4-string bass.
  11. Sennheiser EW 100 transmitter and belt pack receiver for guitar or mic. A few scratches but works perfectly. Both units are metal boxed. Works on the licence-free band. The latest version sells for over £400. Go wireless with this for just £60.
  12. This is my Seymour Duncan Double Back compressor. It was the final stop on my compressor quest. A VCA-based unit, it is very solidly build in a cast alloy case. Ovnilabs gives it a very positive review. "The action is smooth and unobtrusive. It can do some moderate peak limiting, though not for extreme cases. There is no loss of highs or lows, and the tone is neutral......I actually think this pedal is a fantastic value for the money!" This unit sounds really good with guitar as well, but Seymour Duncan have now decided to sell separate models for bass and guitar. The successor model, called the Seymour Duncan Studio Bass, seems to be virtually the same design in a different case and sells for £160. Only selling because I now have an amp with built-in compression and I am a sucker for convenience. Excellent contition, complete with original box and instructions. £80.
  13. This is my Casio CTK-671 keyboard. 61 full-size keys, hundreds of different sounds, rhythms, digital effects, etc. 6-track memory. Midi capable. Complete with power supply, but also works with batteries if you're keen on busking. Very good condition. Everything works as it should. Wouldn't be out of place in a band situation, but also a nice present with Christmas just round the corner. 14. Interesting stuff, thanks all. Looks like a move to a Premium model might be on the cards. I'll be watching the For Sale section with interest.
  15. Al, do you think the Nords are an unpgrade on the Barts, or just a different flavour?
  16. Another SR500 user here. I've had mine for a year and love it. So much so that I have been considering upgrading to one of the more expensive Ibanez models, especially having tried a few of Woodinblack's Ibanez basses at the SW Bass Bash. I particularly like the slim neck and the light weight.
  17. This was my bass for about eight years. It really does give you the sound of a P-bass and the sound of a Stingray (or a combination of both) in one instrument. Lovely bass.
  18. Let us know how you find it. It seems to be a bit of an "insider tip" at the moment.
  19. I've got one. I think it's about the fifth lightweight head I've had and I like it better than any of the others (all well known brands). It has more clarity and punch, and the feature set - particularly the tone controls - is ace. The compressor is very usable, although I have no use for the subharmonics generator and have found - although it might just be me - that cutting 240Hz a bit improves the overall sound.
  20. No need for multiple rigs or multiple cabs. A modern 15" cab will cope with virtually any gig and be as loud as you need on stage. What's not flexible about that? The only time you really need two, or even three cabs, is if your single cab is not up to it. Better buy one that does the job properly. IMO, of course.
  21. I prefer a good 15 myself, although they no longer seem to be fashionable. If you're looking to save weight, choosing a driver that's too small to do the job and then using two of them makes no sense at all. Not helpful, I know, but I just wanted to get that off my chest. Lightweight 4x10s? Don't be silly! 😛
  22. Trace did use some Fane and Precision Devices speakers, but it looks like a Celestion to me from the photos I see on the internet - same one they used in the 1153. If it has a small dome, it's a Celestion. You could use a more modern driver if you wanted.
  23. The vertical integration helps - they also make their own drivers. Another important aspect is that the market is much bigger and more competitive than the bass cab market, and margins are therefore much thinner.
  24. Does Acme publish a frequency response curve? Or Bergantino and the others? That's your first clue.
