1. Looking good! From a structural point of view, you don't actually need the battens at the back of the cab but they make assembly easier. In fact, not having any battens there gives you more bracing options such as (semi-)circular braces, for example. Like this: http://www.eighteens..._12%202ways.pdf Having battens at the front of the cab gives you the option of swapping the baffle out at some future time. If you fancy adding a tweeter or midrange unit later on, you'll be stuck if the front baffle is glued in.
2. Having struggled to cut some holes with the cheapo hole-cutting device I recommended some pages ago (I notice that Beer of the Bass had the same problem - OK for a shallow cut but hopeless for more than that), I have been looking around for some proper hole saws. Unfortunately, they are really expensive. As luck would have it, our friends at Aldi are currently selling a bimetal hole saw set for under a tenner. Not only that, but they are currently offering free delivery to launch their online services. As this kind of set normally retails at over £30 (check on the Screwfix site), it seems like a bit of a bargain - especially as it contains a 68mm saw that should be perfect for fitting drainpipe. Have a look here: https://www.aldi.co.uk/hole-saw-set/p/093008008220200
3. The Kappalite is quite well priced compared with the competition. So if you want something cheaper you will have to forget about having a neo magnet. The Beyma SM212 (which may or may not be the subject of a group buy on here) would probably be a good choice as a low cost alternative to the Kappalite 12F. The weight penalty is not huge - 2kg or so - and it has a comparable low end performance. It has slightly lower power handling, however. On the plus side, it has an extended high frequency response, unlike the Eminence, which means it would work well as a 2 x12" without the midrange driver. So you could build in stages and add the midrange driver later when time or funds allow. Edit: actually the weight penalty is only about 1kg per driver, not a huge difference.
4.
I'll see your out of control saxophonist and raise you an out of control Harmonica player
If yours does that godammawful train whistle lick every time there's a two-second break, I know what you mean.
5. I agree. It would help if they published some frequency response diagrams showing what was going on. Otherwise, it's all hot air. What's "vintage-voiced" suppose to mean exactly?
6. Well that's a clear explanation, Lozz, although I admit I'm more confused than before. I don't want any distortion at all (call it grit if you like). I leave that to the guitars. I also find that I need to boost the treble to about 3 o'clock to cut through, even though my speaker has a midrange driver in it. So I don't really want any less treble. Anyway, thanks for the pointers. I'll have a fiddle at the gig on Saturday.
7.
I play in a variety of bands, but in even in the mellower group I have gain and drive both up at around 2 o'clock...
Looks like I am missing something then. I'll give it another go next time it's set up.
8.
Agree, you have to do a fair bit of work with it to get the sound you want, especially with the Gain and Drive as they are very interactive with each other. But as said, once you hit that sweet spot........
I thought the Drive knob was a distortion knob and I keep it off all the time. Am I missing something?
9. I seem to remember Mesa using the Eminence Delta in their 15" cabinets in recent years. So £380 is a bit rich! This Faital Pro 15 will do the trick and save you a bit of weight as well. It's currently on a special low price: <http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Faital-Pro-15PR400-15-Speaker-Driver-400W-8-Ohm-DISPLAY-STOCK-/201542928090?hash=item2eece506da:g:-QUAAOSwwpdW6Wli>
10. So what's the verdict after a month?

Rambam Feedback

Bought a Sennheiser wireless setup from Roy to give wireless a try. Got some good advice and the items were well packed and sent off quickly. Thanks Roy!
12. Ian very kindly offered his nearly-new-but-with-a-screw-missing microphone stand for free, which I picked up yesterday. Found a screw and the jobs a good 'un. Thanks Ian!
13. Great answer. Thanks icastle.
14. Are the latest FXX plugs an improvement on the previous FX types or just a move sideways?
15. Ian, my son's garage band is trying to get some mics and stands together, and that would be a useful edition. Would you mind messaging me with your details?
16. Outstandingly clear and informative review. I don't think anyone has mentioned the price yet, which is about £1,150. That's beyond most of us, unfortunately.
17. So what's your view on the frequency response question, Alex?
18.
Yes, I'm quite keen to build the Basschat 1x12 as well, and I'm eagerly awaiting the full write up, although I think enough has been published so far to crack on anyway.
There's enough information in the thread for you to get cracking, yes. As you seem familiar with WinISD, you can always modify it to suit yourself by, say, fitting different ports, modifying the bracing, etc. etc.
19. There is a wood merchant across the water in Bristol who stocks poplar ply: <http://www.avonply.co.uk/Client%20Area/ASP/Plywood.aspx>. I'm not a fan of 1/2" plywood, but if you do get normal ply, make sure you get Scandinavian or Russian birch ply. The good stuff really does make a difference to the stiffness of the cabinet. Beyma is a great choice. Their ceramic drivers are probably the best value out there at the moment (at least in the UK).
20. WoT will be along in a minute.
21. If this is a first build, you might be better to keep it simple and go with a 1x12". The size you want to build is about right for a 12. There is a wider choice of suitable drivers. Driver cost is going to be virtually half. There is quite a lot of info on this site covering a 12" build - the Basschat 12 Diary, and Beer of the Bass's build thread, to name just two. Your choice, of course. Oh yes, and in response to your other question, B&C drivers are excellent. They are one of the brands used by the major names in PA, which is always a good sign. Not all of their speakers are suitable for bass guitar, however. Oh, and one more thing: the frequency response curves for raw drivers on the various manufacturers' websites depend on how they are measured. So you can't really compare the 40 to 300Hz measurements on the Eminence website with the ones on the B&C website. You need to model the parameters to get an idea of how the drivers will perform in an actual cabinet.

23. Thanks JapanAxe - and all the others who made their point in a civilised way.
24. That is cheap - and Allparts are not a cheapo brand. Problem is, my flats seem to last forever (5 years so far). Allparts do rounds for about the same price. It's got to be worth a punt.
25. Yes, yes, I promise not to do it again.
