1. These get great write-ups on the German bass forums. Strange they haven't made it across the channel.
2. The first coat of paint is when it really starts looking like a cab.
3.
This. I also find that putting a dab of flux on and tinning the area first helps.
I was not talking about the normal Neutrik jacks, which have a cup for the earth that takes solder very well. This particular type, which I don't think they made for very long and I believe may have been the right angled type, had a solid lump of zinc for the earth connection, which made it very difficult to get a quality joint. It does sound like the conductive plastic shield could be the cause of the problem though.
4. You're welcome. That really goes to show what great singers can bring to a lyric.
5. Great version of that here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=icx4yV6TJkM
6. There was one particular issue of Neutrik jacks that had a poorly designed earth connection that was so solid that you couldn't get it hot enough to take the solder properly. It would draw all the heat into the casing of the plug. I have a couple somewhere. They have black plastic tops. They later went back to the normal earth tag.

Whizzzy

Colin bought an electronic crossover from me recently. A very easy chap to do business with and highly recommended! Colin, I notice that you have a feedback thread for Whizzy and also one for Whizzzy. You might like to ask a mod to combine them.
8. So now you know why a 100 watt Marshall bass head and 2 4x12 100 watt cabinets (containing drivers with virtually no xmax) could blow your socks off in the old days.
9. Replacing the feet certainly looks like the ideal solution. That's a very useful thread, McNach. You have to wonder why Genz didn't fit rubber feet in the first place. If that doesn't do the trick, the cab's the problem. And yes, BotB, there are plenty of cabs that are reasonably immune to this kind of problem, but the current trend is towards cheap and lightweight - and the lighter you make the cab the more difficult it is to stop it vibrating. Similarly, if you make your cab out of cheap shuttering plywood, as many companies do, they are also going to suffer from this problem.
10. The real question here is: have you got a faulty one or are these just a crappy design? Because this should't happen with a properly built bass cab. Unfortunately, a lot of lightweight and cheaply made cabs suffer from this problem. I haven't heard any bad reports about these boxes but only someone with hands-on experience can tell you for sure. The fixes already suggested might stop your amp from falling off the cab but who wants a cabinet that vibrates like a snare drum?
11. They look good and are priced really well. Anyone know what "lightweight ply" means?
12. Just for information, here's a graph of the bottom-end performance of one of these drivers in a similar cab. It doesn't go very low, but that is clearly what some people want.
13. Dan has been spending his money again.... this time on a parametric equaliser. Dan is a gent and a pleasure to deal with. What more can I say?
14. Just bought an equaliser from Sean. It arrived very quickly and in very nice condition. I couldn't ask for more. Thanks!
15.
Spelling's a different matter....using a phrase in such a way that it means the exact opposite of what you want to say is just idiocy....unless of course you're trying to use sarcasm...but you weren't. I don't think i've met an American who can.
I think you mean irony, don't you?
16. Yet other amp with the switch on the back. Maybe their target market is DJs. Sorry, but it looks like a cheapo TC Rebelhead. And only one Speakon is a bit cheapskate.
17. I've probably sent about 50 packages with Interparcel/UPS over the past few years and only had one (very heavy) item damaged. It's when a package gets damaged that you can really tell what kind of service you're getting. The company I had used previously point blank refused to pay up even though I provided evidence that they had smashed an amplifier to smithereens. It took Interparcel a month but they paid out in full. Their insurance isn't cheap, but at least you can rely on it. UPS are pretty good on the whole, but it's definitely worth going through Interparcel because they have much more clout with the carriers than you do if something goes wrong. Plus, their systems are much more consumer friendly.
18.
A Stingray is an expensive, premium, professional, great sounding, instrument. Your amp is entry level and priced for beginners. You could buy 6 TC combos for the price of a new Stingray. If you invest in an amp, that will let you hear you bass accurately at high volume, your problem will be solved.
1+ Messing about with tone settings is not going to change the fact that your amp is unable to cope with the volume you want to play at. You need an amp that will maintain the good sound you get at low volumes when you turn it up. I don't know whether the amp is faulty or just rubbish, but that's certainly where the problem is.
