Horrible strings. They feel rough, wear quickly, and never sound good to me. But as sixdegrees says, there are some pretty good bass players out there who like them!

Chromes sound great IMO, but I agree they are the most roundwound sounding flats. But the tension takes a bit of getting used to. If you're playing rock punk and metal, are you sure flats are what you're looking for?

The binding on that pic does seem to run under the bridge, which as you say, is a tell tale sign for a copy.
I've never found a J pickup to blend well with a P; often I'll get a solo'd sound I like but it then vanishes in the mix. A MM seems to blend better...all this is a matter of taste of course.
Agree 100% with this. I added a J pickup to my 70s reissue P and it just doesn't seem to work. I end up using just the P. I think a Stingray type pickup just suits the P sound better.

Rickenbackers can do clanky. But solo the neck pickup and roll off the treble and you have a great thick thumpy tone. They are far more versatile than people give them credit for. Properly EQ'd you can get nice grindy rock tones, clanky Chris Squire tones, and rounded Jazz tones. The playablity is a bit Marmite though. I love mine, but the necks do take some adjusting to if you're used to a Fender.
The fingers are far more versatile. That's all there is to it. There may be pick players who deny it, but it is true.
Using both is most versatile. Try playing the intro run on No More Heroes with your fingers. You might be able to do it, but it just doesn't sound as good.

On the odd occassions I need effects I'm tending to use my Boss ME50, so I've decided to have a clearout. Up for sale are: Boss CEB3 Chorus - SOLD Aphex Bass Xciter - SOLD Tech 21 VT Bass - WITHDRAWN EBS Multicomp - WITHDRAWN EH Bass Big Muff - SOLD EDIT - only the Tech 21 VT left. I will be away from Thursday for a few weeks and really want to shift this first. If it doesn't go by Wednesday night I will hold on to it - so silly price is for one day only!
Not legally as it hasn't been obtained dishonestly. Until the seller permanently deprives the owner of it it's not theft or stolen. Long story but I'm down £2.5k of tools. Police won't do nowt as I left them on their property (They changed locks threatened me with trespass etc) Police won't do nowt as it doesn't meet THEIR definition of theft.
Actually the definition is dishonestly appropriating property with the intention of permanently depriving the owner of it. Putting the bass up for sale is appropriation. And he clearly intends to deprive the owner of it by selling it on. So those bits of the definition would be satisfied. The question is whether the appropriation is dishonest. Frankly, its impossible to say on the info available. The tenant may have left it specifically to cover the rent. The problem the police have is that if something has apparently been abandoned, dishonesty is hard to prove beyond reasonable doubt. Anyway - its definitely fake. No original Precisions have the "original contour body" logo on the headstock. Something fakers always seem to get wrong.
That is lovely and I'm sorely tempted. As far as I'm aware what you have is basically a Geddy Lee neck and they have to be the best necks on the planet. I did actually play both a Geddy Lee and a 70s RI P-Bass at GAK and they felt the same. The rest of the build looks great. I think this bass is an absolute bargain and I'd be surprised if it lasted a week on here.
Although the neck looks like a Geddy Lee, it actually feels quite a bit different. The Geddy necks are very slim, even for a Jazz. This is a Precision nut width, so a bit wider than a normal Jazz neck.
