1.
Erm, no actually, because here is the ugliest bass in the world!
That is absolutely beautiful!
2. Very easy and pleasant deal with Colin. A pleasure to deal with
3.
Not the original body I guess.
That would be my guess too. The body actually looks like walnut - very un-Fenderish. And the join between the top and the body is nothing to shout about.
4. My YOB bass - 1964 Precision
5. Bought a Jazz body from Paul. Good price, good comms, and well packaged. Thanks!
6. Thanks for the positive comments! It does look the part
7. I've actually just put this up for sale, so i guess i should post it in the Gibson porn thread while its still mine 1996 Les Paul. Lovely bass, with a huge tone.
8. Blimey - it went for under £450. I wish I'd seen it earlier!
9. Very nice. you can't beat a black Rickenbacker!
10. I don't know why I like these, but for some reason I do - lovely bass!
11. No, the body's not chambered (hence the weight!). Its full scale - 34". I've edited the first post to show that.
12.
Any interest in a swap for my immaculate 5 string les Paul bass? It's in the for sale section a few Places below this! Cheers
Nice bass, but I'm not really after a 5 string I'm afraid.
13. I've decided to sell my Les Paul to fund another purchase. I bought this at the Yorkshire Bass Bash earlier this year from Bass Gear. Its a 1996 model (according to the Gibson serial number decoder). The preamp is a factory fitted Bartolini preamp - volume, blend, treble boost/cut, and bass boost cut. This really does sound fantastic. You get the expected thick Gibson tone, but the active electronics bring some real versatility. Boost the treble, cut the bass, and you get a fizzing MM tone. Boost the bass, and you get a P type tone. But none of the muddiness you can get with Gibsons. In traditional Les Paul style the body is mahogany with a maple top. The photos don't do the top justice - it actually has some really nice birdseye type grain. The fretboard is ebony with pearloid inlays. Full scale (34"). It's not light - weighing in at about 10lbs on my bathroom scales. In mint condition, except for a few minor scratches on the back. And it comes with a fitted Gibson USA hard case with pink (yes pink!) fur lining. I paid £800 when I bought it from Bass Gear. I'm looking for £675 posted for a quick sale.
14.
'IN HIS OPINION AS AN OWNER OF MANY FENDERS IT IS GENUINE' P
In my opinion, he's wrong Decal is wrong and no serial number in any of the places there should be one
15.
Aren't they 16.5mm? That'd be tighter than a Ray.
17.5mm. The SR series is 16.5 I think. Not as wide as a four string admittedly.
16.
What will give me similar tones, in a five string with 4 string-esque spacing? Any offers?
Ibanez ATK 5 String. They have wide string spacing, and get as close to a Stingray tone as anything I've played (other than a Stingray!).
17. It depends what you mean by good value! The Seymour Duncan Ceramic is very nice, with a lively MM tone. If its within the budget, the Delano hybrids are fantastic. The active twin coil option gets very close to the classic MM tone, and the coil tap gives you the option of passive single coil Jazz type tone. I've got one in my Shuker IMO they are outstanding pickups. Not cheap though.
18.
I'm not sure but I thought the RW jazz was the same bass as the MIM classic 70s jazz except for the finish. Can anyone confirm if that's correct? Frank.
The MIM Classic has a hard poly finish. The road worn is a thinner nitro finish so supposedly gives more resonance. Not sure whether that's correct, but the road worns do play and feel amazing.
19.
http://tabs.ultimate...y_ver6_btab.htm Sounds good enough to me
That's pretty much what I play. Sounds right to me!
20. Got mine today, and it looks good IMO!
21. This used to be mine! It really is an outstanding bass, and has the nicest five string neck I've played. I'd be tempted to buy it back if I had use for a five string! Have a free bump
22. Things are loading much quicker for me today - both on my work PC and Mac using Safari
23. Another recommendation for the John East pre-amp from me. Very very good piece of kit. You get the classic 'ray tone but with extra versatility in the mids. The Nordstrand pickup is another good recommendation. I A/B'd my Stingray (with original pickup) against one fitted with the Nordstrand at the Nottingham bass bash a couple of years back, and it was impossible to tell the difference - to my ears at least!
24. I use Schaller on all my basses, including the Rickenbacker, without any issues.
25. I doubt Thomann are making their own strings, so I guess these may well be re-packaged strings made for Thomann by one of the recognised brands. They've got to be worth a try!
