Which you'd now know all too well!
Indeed - I gigged it last night for the first time, and you certainly notice all that mahogany by the end of the second set! But it sounded awesome - well worth the pain

Looks nice IMO, but given the weight of a standard LP bass, that's going to be a real back-breaker!
I'm presuming flats of some kind, but they seem very lively (or is that his playing?) Would love to get that resonance for harmonics with flats.
He used Rotosound rounds I think.

Great to see how far the topics for threads have moved on: Precision or Jazz; Avoid Sound Control; latest Bass Guitar Mag; Heads up on a Shuker; favourite music shop; custom charges; identify this bass. I'm glad we're not that predictable any more... Bizarrely, I actually remember the Kit Kat chunky peanut thread!
Yeah I've never had any issues with any transaction on here! It seems a bit harsh (although I can understand frustrating) to lambast someone who tries a bass, simply because its not for them.....even if they did get too excited and say they "definitely wanted it". How many times have we all gone "Awwww I'd LOVE a warwick/fender/fodera, only to try one and really not feel it. I would suggest it prudent to assume you have NOT made a sale until the money is in your hand, regardless of what anyone says, and act accordingly in how you pursue the sale. Easy Si
+1. I've bought and sold lots of stuff on here and only had positive experiences. To be honest, while I know its frustrating to be asked what might appear to be basic questions, if I want a sale I'm happy to answer anything I can. Yes, buyers can go and do their own homework on stuff like weight, what SN stands for etc, but if they're about to give me a large wad of their cash, why should they? Equally, if someone wants to come and try before they buy, I would regard it as just that - if they try it and don't like it, they're not going to buy!

There's currently a real EB0 on the bay with a BIN £50 less that that!

I had a play on the one at the Yorks bass bash and was very impressed. Not sure about the orange colour though, which is apparently the only option at the moment.
Looks like I annoyed some people here. I have a major problem with a stage full of 40-50 somethings with brand new boutique equipment wailing away aimlessly, adding 25 extra solos to "Mustang Sally" and playing everything in dead military 4/4 with no feel or swing while they disguise their paunch with something "the wife" picked up for them from Burtons, over their brand new loose fit 501s. It just smacks of desperation,
You've not annoyed me at all. Amused me, yes, but not annoyed me! I'm sure I fall within your description of a desperate, paunch ridden 40-50 something (although I have never owned a pair of 501s, and am still capable of going to Burtons myself). So I apologise for causing you a problem. Thing is, 25 years ago, I was playing in originals bands who were moderately successful, and I despised the middle of the road covers bands who, i thought back then, had sold out. But I ended up with a day job and a family, and now find myself enjoying playing songs I like to play, to an audience that likes to hear them. Yes, I've given up the dream of hitting the big time, but I enjoy doing what my band does. And I like to think most of the people who listen to us enjoy what they hear. Which is good enough for me. And I've never played Mustang Sally

I am on a strict one bass in = one bass out policy, so having acquired a rather nice Gibson at the weekend, my G&L sadly has to go! I am at work at the moment, so will post pics of the actual bass tonight. But it is one of these in sunburst: http://www.glguitars.com/instruments/Tribu...d_Top/index.asp Stunning looking basses with a very nice tinted maple neck / board and a carved flamed maple top (and they sell at a premium of £100 to £150 over the standard L2000 tribute new). Otherwise they are identical to the usual L2000 tribute. Mine is mint, save for a ding on the side below the control knobs (which it acquired in shipping when I bought it). This has been professionally repaired by Jim Fleeting in Ripon, and is virtually invisible unless you look for it. But it is still there, and I will post pics later. Eevn better if you can come and have a look at it first. I'm only looking for a sale - £420 plus shipping.

To be fair, I've seen far worse relic jobs than that one, and he is at least totally honest about what it is.
Ooooooooooooooooooooooooooo what is it? We will be needing pictures. Don't worry about your playing level. I don't worry about mine. In fact I don't worry about mine far too much. Everyone is really helpful at these bashes I've found, and asking questions about gear, playing tips, how to learn this that or the other is all part of it. Next time I might be a bit more adventurous and try a few more basses out and ask some more questions. Being a bash virgin I was a little reticent. Things I should have done: Asked Keith for a go on his delicious upright bass. Asked retroman for a go on the black Rick. Tasty. Try out a few of the high end basses - just to see. Kidnapped Scott and Geoff and demanded lessons in exchange for release.
The Rick was mine. You should have had a go - you'd either love or hate it! -

Great day! thanks to Yorks5string for organising it. I'm already looking forward to next year -
You don't need to justify your choices, I'm not your SO. But it's going to make it much more interesting if people put reasons for their choices. They don't have to be basses that you've never played, you can have ones that you have and you'd recommend other people to play (I've owned 3 out of the 5 on my list). Just trying to keep conversation going, folks.
Fair enough - updated my post with reasons
-
Updated with reasons! 1 Rickenbacker 4003 - because they're cool! 2 An old Precision - because they started it all 3 A good Stingray - because they're the most comfortable bass I've played 4 Steinberger cricket bat - because they're completely different to anything else 5 Something with a graphite neck - because I've never actually tried one but would like to!
Hello all, Basically, I really want/need a 5 string P bass and I really like the look of Hardcore Aged Sandbergs. After looking on the internet, I can't find anything that fits what I'm after. Does anyone here know how to go about ordering a Sandberg? Would I need to speak to one of their UK distributors or would I need to contact Sandberg direct? Also, if anyone else can think of any other company that makes good 5 string P basses, let me know. btw, I refuse to pay over £1000 for a Fender. It's too much for what it is! Cheers Truckstop
I'm pretty sure you can order Sandberg's through PMT in Birmingham. They always have several in stock, but from conversations with them they can order your options through the UK distributor. Edit - thinking about it, I'm sure they had some of the Sandberg relics when I was there last. FWIW much more convincing than the Fender Road Worn relics

That looks genuine to me, although I suspect its a 77 or 78 from the serial number. Generally S8.... numbers (like this one) date to 77-78. S9 serial number would be 79-81. Although that's always approximate with late 70s Fenders. Either way, it looks a nice bass.

I've fitted one of the bezels you can buy from Rickysounds here: http://www.ricsrus.com/Accessories.html ...scroll half way down. Excellent bits of kit, and make your Ric much more playable fingerstyle. Easy to fit, and no mods need to be made to your bass. They also fill the nasty gap you get around the treble pickup if you've removed the pickup cover.
There is a local retailer that stocks some of this brand.
I thought Harley Benton was Thomann's own in house brand, so I'm surprised they're being sold at a local retailer. I've never played any of the HB stuff, so can't comment on the quality, but FWIW Harley Benton guitars are made in China by Saein, who also make Chinese branded Epiphone, Ibanez and Peavey models.
