1.
The ebay bass is IMHO a kosher Korean made Fender the plate, top, logo etc are all as should be BUT don't confuse it with the the visually similar USA version!
Agreed. Its one of the Korean made Fender Jazz 24s (named due to the 24 fret fingerboard). Perfectly legit, and actually very nice basses for the money. More details here: http://www.zzounds.com/item--FEN264500
  2.
WANT!!!!!! Is that a maple 'board as well?
I'm pretty sure the Shadow 4003 had an unbound bubinga board (standard on 4003s) but with dot markers. I think that board just looks light in the photo. Absolutely stunning bass!
  3. Mine's already got its own thread: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=107318&hl=
  4. There's alerady a thread here about this one: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=124767&st=0 It's certainly an oddity!
  5.
Okay, that is the final price drop, 400 pounds!!!
This has got to be the bargain of the year! I really can't justify another 4 string, but someone should snap this up quick!
  6.
Got a friend looking for a cheap bass for his son..Been offered a fully made up Precision Body and he has found a jazz neck on Ebay..would make a very cheap bass..Anyone know if they fit together as standard items? I know the Jazz neck is much thinner at the nut but don't know how that translates at the body end.. Anyone know if they are compatable? Thanks
If they're both Squier then yes, they should fit. A standard Jazz neck fits a standard Precision body. But there are a few qualifications. First, you should be OK if you're using Fender, Squier, or Fender licenced parts (eg Mighty Mite). Other parts, it is worth checking they are built to normal Fender dimensions. I had a non-Fender Strat neck which needed a bit of sanding to fit a standard Squier neck socket. Second, I'm assuming you're talking about standard P body and J neck. Remember that some of the deluxe models are not standard (eg 24 or 22 fret necks) and 70s reissue Jazz necks are 3 bolt so would require some extra drilling. But if the neck is a standard Jazz neck you should have no problem.
  7.
So, I want to treat myself to a new bass for my 30th this year and I'm 99% sure it's gonna be a Sandberg Basic 4. The trouble is, I can't find anywhere in the West Midlands that has them in stock. The bass merchant do, but they're on the other side of the country! I've played a couple of California JMs before, so I think I know what to expect with a basic, but I'd still rather be sure before I commit to buying one. Anybody got any suggestions? Anyone own one and have any advice?
PMT ususally have a good stock of Sandbergs - have you tried them?
  8. Sold Sean my EBS Microbass II. Easy transaction, and a pleasure to deal with
  9.
I've amended the post as I believe the timber is mahogany/walnut/alder/walnut/mahogany..
Beautiful bass, but I think these only came in maple or walnut top. So I think yours is Walnut/maple/mahogany/maple/walnut. Wish I could justify buying it!
  10. Another +1 from me. I've got one of John's preamps in my Stingray and it is a simply fantastic bit of kit. I also had a J-retro in my old Jazz which again was outstanding. Brilliant customer service as well.
  11. Just ordered my tickets, although I can only make the Sunday. Looks like it should be a good event!
  12.
For me its ZZ Top, practicing Gimme all your loving at the moment its so boring I feel degraded !
+1. Annoyingly, we play it tight, sounds great, and the audience seem to love it, so it stays in the set. But there are only so many bars of C that you can play without losing the will to live!
  13.
Sure the experts will be along soon, but not sure about the bridge, pick ups and logo on this '69? Karl.
The logo's right for a '69, but the Barts and Badass definitely aren't!

    Raggy

Bought an EBS pedal from Steve. Very fast delivery, and a pleasure to deal with!
  15.
But yeah, i have never liked Rotos. I don't understand why everyone still buys 'em, must be their incessant advertising campaigns in Total Guitar!
+1. My experience of Rotos is that they are sticky, rough, inconsistent in tone and go dead quickly. IMO the best buy at that price point are Ernie Ball Slinkies.
  16. Very nice. Is that the one which is still on Jon Shuker's stock basses page?
  17. Another option is the John East outboard pre-amp. Essentially the J-retro in a stomp box.
  18. These look to be a pretty good idea: http://www.artecsound.com/effect/se-beq.htm 8 band EQ and a tuner in one pedal, and going for £40 on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Graphical-Precision-...=item5adb135e08 Has anyone used one? I'm tempted to have a punt at that price
  19.
Hi all First up is an EBS Multi Drive pedal. Its one of the Bypass jobbies. Comes with box, instructions/warranty card. £65 Posted Second up is an Ashdown James LoMenzo HyperDrive. Comes with Box and a settings example sheet £45 Posted Both have not been gigged, have tried them out at rehearsals a few times and realised Ska and distorted bass do not really go together so much. Cheers for looking Raggy
PM'd - I'll take the multidrive
  20.
Cool - I'd seen this too Can anyone tell me if I ordered this http://http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/WARWICK-ROCKB...=item19c2f7e1ce how much would the tax etc be? I guess what i'm asking is how much would I pay in total? Has anyone bought from the US before? cheers
Import duties plus VAT were about 20% if the total price when I last bought a bass from the US. That was when VAT was 17.5% though, so I would budget for a bit more now.
  21. My '64 Precision is definitely a keeper - if only because its got the same date of birth as me
  22.
im now a member of the club as of 22.30 last night. let me introduce you to my 1993, 4003 jetglow Ric. I have the original white and an aftermrket black scratchplate too. However this chrome number is just lush.
That looks stunning! Where did you get the chrome scratchplate?
  23. He's obviously had some questions about it - he's now saying the neck is genuine Fender because of the "F logo on all tuning pegs". Sadly for him , you can see the holes where the originals were removed. To be fair, it might be a genuine Mex Jazz neck, but if it is, its got upgraded tuners! I'd agree with Bassassin that its a hacked up Jazz body - you can see where the Jazz pickguard has been badly cut down at the top horn.
  24.
You don't say what model of bass you have, but you need to research and get the correct Hipshot. The Bass Centre web site has them all and tells you what basses they fit. Look there to see what you need and then try to find a cheaper one. http://www.basscentre.com/hipshot-d-tuners.html I have them on 2 of my basses and they are fantastic. You can quickly flip to low D during a song if you need as well.
Or back again - we cover By The Way in my covers band, which is drop D, and I always forget to retune until I'm a couple of bars into the next song. With the Hipshot, one flick of the lever, and I'm back in E before the guitarist has noticed
  25.
Shuker! He makes P basses for Simon Nix and JJ Burnel
+1. Shuker JJB is an awesome bass.
