1.
Hello all. I'm thinking about buying a hipshot bass xtender but don't really know much about them in terms of performance and reliability? Are they worth the money and which one do I need? I'm also having trouble finding a black one Thanks again
If you need to switch from standard to drop D mid-set, then they are invaluable. I've got one on my Stingray, which works perfectly. You do need to fit and calibrate them properly (there's a good video from Hipshot on Youtube showing how to do that), but once you've set them up they work really well IMO.
 2.
I've owned a Sandberg JM4 for about five years. The MM/J arrangement is very versatile, especially when you have a coiltap on the MM (like mine). You can get a very good approximation of a jazz bass, plus the Stingray sound, or a good ballsy sound with both on An active/passive option might be worth thinking about as well(like mine). Nige
+1. My Shuker has MM/J with a coil tap on the MM. Just about the most versatile pickup combination you can go for IMO.
 3. In: 1964 Precision G&L L2500 tribute Italia Maranello Epiphone EB0 Fender Classic 70s Jazz Out: Fender Classic 70s Jazz Yamaha BB605 Sandberg Basic Epiphone EB0 Italia Maranello MIA Jazz And I've since sold the G&L L2500 and replaced it with a G&L L2000. So, of the five basses I acquired during 2010, I've kept one! To be fair, a couple were trades I always meant to move on, but still a bit of an eye opener...
 4. In the wake of the Andy Gray / Richard Keys controversy, perhaps Musicpeople is safer?
 5. I voted other - I had the Delano JMVCs in my old Jazz. Brilliant pickups - split coil design, and I found soloing the neck pickup got close to a nice Precision thump. Add the bridge pickup and you've got a really great growly Jazz tone.

 7. Bump for price drop
 8. Nice compressor, but I'm not using since I bought an EBS Multicomp. In mint condition. New price - £30 posted!
 9. This is in mint condition. I will post it with the original box. The blurb from EBS says: " This is the ultimate bass tool. Period! The MicroBassII can be used as an active direct box, a one or two channel preamp, instrument switcher or blender. Two Channels and A Useful Loop The two channels provide sound shaping from high end solid-state types to distorted timbres, using the awarded tube emulation circuitry found in the EBS range of professional bass heads. An incorporated effects loop gives the user added flexibility for connecting to other effect pedals, or for mixing in an external audio source such as a CD player for rehearsal purposes. Unmatched Flexibility The balanced output with speaker simulator option provides unmatched flexibility in live and studio situations. Footswitches control mute and channel operation/switching. Other features include headphone output, low battery indicator, link and master outputs, bass, ‘sweepable' midrange, treble, bright and edge filters, drive and effects mix controls. The EBS MicroBassII delivers that big, burning EBS sound wherever you go." Looking for £155 posted.

 11. They are brilliant basses if you get on with them, but as retroman says they are definately in the Marmite category! If you like the tone, the question is really whether you can live with the ergonomics. The body shape and neck profile is quirky, and feels unfamiliar if you're used to Fenders. But the look, tone, and playability is like nothing else out there.
 12. Some cracking basses there. My personal favourite is the suburst Asat - stunning bass.
 13.
Any reason you think that, or is it just a taste / looks thing? I'm considering a new bridge for my jazz because the current one has seen better days and was considering a badass? xx
I would look at the Gotoh 201. Does a simialr job to the Badass (more mass than the standard fender bridge) but has a more traditional look. And its a fraction of the price.
 14.
you don't see these everyday.. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1972-Rickenbacker-40...1#ht_500wt_1000
Very nice. Will be interesting to see how much that goes for in the current climate.
 15.
Colin Moulding......and JJ Burnel of course.
^^ those two! And Bruce Foxton
 16.
It doesn't have to be deliberate like that - even with lacquer over the decal you don't always get a perfectly flush surface upon buffing and certainly looking closely you can often see the decal edges through the lacquer. My poly-finished 75RI is a case in point.
Agreed - coincidentally my 70s reissue P is showing the same. On this 62 reissue, though, the decal will have been deliberatley applied like that to replicate the way the decals aged quite quickly in the pre-poly era.
 17.
Is this genuine? If you look closely at the headstock photo, especially around the Offset Counter Body decal, you can clearly see edges to a decal. Is this right?
Yes. In the fifities and sixties Fender applied the decal over the headstock laquer. With time the decal outline becomes more prominent against the background, especially on coloured headstocks. On a lot of the higher end reissue models Fender replicate that, as is the case on this one.
 18.
Simon, there's another rule for you - you can only come if your DONT bring that black ricky.
Sorry, the black Ric will be there! Probably also bring two of the '64 Precision, Shuker, and G&L.
 19.
The only rule is NO SLAPPING! Otherwise A: Just turn up with whatever you wish, set it up and then fend off hords of admirers who want to try your gear/ talk Bass with you B: Just turn up with no gear and look/try out other's gear C: Go to Bass Gear Ltd area, try out one of their bespoke US Basses or Mark Bass Amplification and buy it!
D: Go home with lots of GAS
 20.
MB1. Other Musically Related Items! Perhaps?..... You did say the 6 string G word!
And a price?
 21.
conversely ive just sold a amp and a bass to people who had 4 posts between them....
I don't have a problem at all with people joining to buy stuff. But there does seem to be a trend for people to join, post often quite expensive stuff for sale, taking advantage of free advertising and avoiding the fees they would face on ebay etc. There is a good example today, where a new member with no previous posts has posted a vintage bass and guitar amp for sale, both of which will be expensive items (although he hasn't posted a price!). I can't see how that's different to a new member posting an ebay link.
 22.
So it's not a decent bass if it's blue - but painting it black would make it decent?
Yep
 23.
Ok it's a great original neck, but anywhere it's describe as an original body... Just refin. Second I think in 1977, the rear plate was in 3holes not in 4.
The Precision never had the 3 bolt neck, it was always four bolt*. I'm not a fan of blue basses (even when its done well!), but for the price it went for you could budget for a refin (black would look good), and have a decent bass there. *Edit - just notice Chris had already posted this. I really should read the properly thread before contributing!
 24. Blimey - some nice stuff there. That Stingray is absolutely stunning
 25.
My Dingwall SJ5! It's black! It's maple! With a de-tuner on the B! Bazinga!
Very nice!
